Eating healthy at Disneyland? No! Anyone with me?

There are certain things that just disappear for us on a disney vacation including bed times and stress. I refuse to worry about anything and that includes eating "right". On our last trip we had mickey bars  and popcorn for breakfast popcorn::

Also don't forget how many calories you are burning by walking around so much! I totally use that as an excuse. The pedometer said I burned over 1100 calories pretty regularly when we were in commando mode. That's a few mickey ice creams! :lmao:

Last trip I swear the boyfriend and I had at least 3 or 4 popcorns and slushy lemonades a day. Yum! Add in a few Mickey ice creams, giant krispie treats, waffle cones, taffy and cookies. Oh yes!

Is this the same girl who was complaining that Blue Bayou wasn't good enough for her? LOL!!

When I'm living my regular life (ie: am not on a Disney vacation), I eat pretty much nothing but fruits, vegetables, fish, and the occasional icecream cone; I hardly ever even drink soda.

But...

...when I'm at Disneyland, I eat as much as an elephant eats, and stuff I never eat outside of the Park...like bacon. I am so gross. I might as well eat out of a pig trough when I'm there. :rotfl:

The funny thing is, after all the walking, all day, every day, I usually LOSE weight on vacation.

THAT is an excellent point! When we went in March 2010 I was on WW husband and I were on our 10 year Anniversary trip! IT was awful staying on the points! I stopped in the middle vacation for us going on Vacation is only once a year! We are going to eat what we want and stay up pass bedtime! AND we may even have something sweet before we go to bed!:scared1: Something we DO NOT do at home!
We have only been 3 times so I have so many on my Must Taste list! I can't wait to go back!!! :goodvibes

I'm totally with you! A few days at Disneyland won't make you fat. I eat decently when I'm at home, but on vacation, I eat whatever I want.

I agree that the walking burns calories and probably helps build an appetite. They also say being at sea builds an appetite...I wonder if it's all the fresh air that helps causes those cravings?

I usually don't eat MUCH worse at Disneyland than when I'm at home...which shows how bad my regular diet is. :flower3: And/or how cheap I am...

If you're moving around on vacation then I don't think there's any health problems with going to Disneyland and eating things you wouldn't normally eat. My resolution is to eat more gingerbread this time around. In fact, I think I'd be happy if I had nothing but gingerbread for supper every night at the parks.

I look forward to all the park food almost as much as the rides. Like most others here have mentioned, "rules" do not apply on vacation.

Ribs??? Who has ribs? :hyper: I love anything pumpkin too. Caramel apple muffin? Only during Fall or so they have it during the winter holidays? I want a gingerbread man wearing chocolate Mickey ears and I want to dunk him in my coffee.

They will slice the apple for you before you leave the store omitting the sticky factor. :thumbsup2

Taste Pilot Grill! I'll be there in a week or so, so pumpkin/apple stuff shouold be in full swing :)

Heck, I don't even drink Coke unless I am at DLR! :rotfl2:

It's the oddest thing - I keep a bit of carbonated soda (Coke or whatever) in the fridge year-round, in case my stomach bothers me or in case I have a guest or something. But all I ever actually drink with meals or in between meals is black coffee (no cream or sugar) and water (not flavored water or sparkling water - just regular, plain bottled water). That's it for me, day in and day out - plain coffee and water. (Sometimes I will even - gasp! - drink the "lite" coffee with only half the caffeine.:scared1::scared1::rotfl2:)

But...when I get to DLR, somehow all 'rules' from home immediately fly out the window, and suddenly I am putting cream in my coffee at breakfast and drinking soda with every meal like a madwoman!:rotfl2: The other day at DLR for Halloween Time, I got thirsty. I could have paid over 3 bucks for a bottle of water to stick to my usual habits, but no. Instead, I paid over 3 bucks for a Coke. Where is the logic in that? There is none.

And if I am going to drink a Coke at DLR, I want it to be the STRONG kind of Coke that burns the back of my throat as it goes down the hatch - all you Coke drinkers know what I mean. There is flat Coke and there is strong Coke. No flat Coke for me.

Next thing you know, I will be buying gingerbread and shortbread cookies (something I never do in everyday life) and eating peppermint ice cream cones (another thing I never do in real life). I wouldn't normally be collecting tons of candy for Halloween either, and yet, at the Halloween party in DL I was running from treat station to treat station, in every land, getting my candy like a maniac!

There's something in the DLR air that makes us all want things we wouldn't normally have. It's like we fall under a spell as soon as we pass through the tunnel and step onto Main Street.

Peppermint Ice Cream Cones?? where?

For the PP, the ribs are at Taste Pilots Grill over in DCA. Nummy! One of DH's favorites.

I like everything we've had at Taste Pilot's. :thumbsup2

I *like* sweet potato fries. I don't eat them because they're healthy, I like them dipped in mayo. Does that absolve me of the taint of "health food?" :rotfl:

 Yes! Mayo counteracts any healthy that was in the sweet potato.

We like our churros and our meaty kabobs and our Mickey bars. :) It's all about the meat for my guys.

I forgot about Bengal BBQ! Love a good meaty kabob! We get them we've been in unsuccessful with the FP at Indy and nibble our way through.

I swear there is something in the air there , I am hungry all day long at the parks. I want to eat more often than my teenage football playing boys do! I go over the snacks and meals I want then try to get them all in the small days we are there, 1 of the reasons we added a 3rd day next trip , the addition of holiday snacks ........ohhhhhhh I cant wait.:cool1:
Last time we brought DH hearing him say are you guys really going to eat that got old............so he stays home!
Churros, dole whips, ice cream , pop corn, treats from poohs corner or marcelines, oh and I know there is more!!!
and yes i want fries with that!!!

I know, it's crazy. That's why I just have a bite or two of everything. I don't want to miss a thing.

There is something about Disneyland's popcorn. Maybe it is sprinkled with pixiedust?! I agree about the stress and bedtimes.

That's a good idea- I'd love to see how much we really walk. :thumbsup2

My kids love those lemonade slushies.

:goodvibes I hear ya! I eat crap I normally wouldn't eat and all in the span of 3 days no less. I am a grazer by nature and eat small portions. At home I'd grab a string cheese or few baby carrots but of you try to make me snack on that at Disneyland, someone might get hurt.

I'm totally with you! A few days at Disneyland won't make you fat. I eat decently when I'm at home, but on vacation, I eat whatever I want.

ITA! ::yes:: And a few days won't create poor habits as long as I get back into reality right away.

I agree that the walking burns calories and probably helps build an appetite. They also say being at sea builds an appetite...I wonder if it's all the fresh air that helps causes those cravings?

I agree with the sea thing too. We bought a boat this summer and it seems like the kids ate all day on that thing. I can't tell you the amount of turkey, chips, and veggies we went through this summer.

I usually don't eat MUCH worse at Disneyland than when I'm at home...which shows how bad my regular diet is. :flower3: And/or how cheap I am...

I like your resolution!

I think it's part of the experience for me.

Is this the same girl who was complaining that Blue Bayou wasn't good enough for her? LOL!!

I would love to see where I said the Blue Bayou wasn't good enough for me. :confused3 Because I simply questioned BB charging close to what the Napa Rose does and said that the Monte Cristo looks disgusting, I think the BB isn't good enough? Nice stretch. :lmao:

My friend reminded me tonight about the UVA bar's garlic fries; I wonder if they still have them? A few of those only though- they are strong.

And does anywhere serve a Frozen Coke? They've got them in WDW, very similar to the Slushies my kids like from 7-11. I might hit nirvana if I can find them.

At TPG pork. Good yes, and the sauce.:thumbsup2
At BTRBBQ they are smokey and fall of the bone. I think pork also.

:thanks: We don't technically eat pork in our home. Or shellfish. But we will gladly eat what is being served when we are at a friend's home or are out. My middle DD doesn't have the same dietary restrictions as we do. She has growth issues so she gets as much bacon, ham, ribs, etc as she wants.

Ok, this thread has me ::yes::.

Why IS the popcorn and Coke better in DL? :confused3

I don't know the answer, but I have to have both every visit! :lovestruc

Peppermint Ice Cream Cones?? where?

I'd like to know too. My DD had a pumpkin frozen custard last night...... holy moly.

I don't know but it is bette! DH says the sane thing. My kids generally prefer Sprite when they have a soda but with DL popcorn even they prefer Coke. :cloud9:

Smell and taste are related, and Disneyland smells wonderful.

Peppermint Ice Cream Cones?? where?

nunzia -

During the holiday season you can find the peppermint cones at Gibson Girl on Main Street. You can get the delicious peppermint ice cream in a regular/plain cone, in a cup, in a chocolate-covered-with-red-and-green sprinkles cone OR - the one I had last December - in a chocolate-covered cone encrusted with peppermint candy chunks!!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Yummy!!!!!! I love me some peppermint ice cream!:cool1:

I was actually surprised that Gibson Girl was not serving any pumpkin-ish ice cream for Halloween Time. They get all their ice cream from Dreyer's - and Dreyer's has some Fall flavors like a pumpkin thing. But I guess it is not as popular as the peppermint, I suppose, and so Gibson Girl doesn't bring it out for Halloween Time.:confused3

I'd like to know too. My DD had a pumpkin frozen custard last night...... holy moly.

Ditto what I told nunzia above...

In fact, if anyone recalls seeing my "Evil Chair and the Peppermint Cone of Death...a Christmas Tale" trip report floating around for a while in the TR section late last year and this year (it's part of one big multi-TR thread that is linked below in my signature), the "Peppermint Cone of Death" in question was bought at Gibson Girl.

Just don't try to set a camera down on a trash can to take a photo and hold the melting ice cream cone at the same time, or you could put your camera, the cone and the trash can in peril. That's all I'm sayin.':rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 (Not that I did anything so foolish, of course....:rolleyes1:rolleyes1)

My mom and I will be there in 2 days and she keeps telling people we are going to eat our way through DL.... We are doing the Fantasmic Desert box, We are having a character breakfast, I have plans for Cinnamon rolls and a mocha, We are going to have lobster nachos and a long island ice tea, soup and bread bowls, and Mickey beignets.... so ya we are going to eat out way through DL...:rotfl:
