Eating healthy at Disneyland? No! Anyone with me?

I am generally a decent eater; I drink a ton of water, very limited soda, small portions, lots of veggies, no diet fake food, lots of protein, few carbs.....but dang it when I'm at Disneyland, I don't want a wheat bun or sweet potato fries or a salad (unless it's Taste Pilot's grilled bbq chicken salad which is my favorite). I want churros and popcorn and Dole Floats and corn dogs. I might only have 2-3 bites of each of the above mentioned but that's what I'm having! I don't want sliced apples instead of fries or a $2 banana instead of a Mickey Ice Cream Bar. I want two bites of Dark Chocolate Rocky Road from the candy store on Main St with my morning coffee. :cloud9:

I will have an apple if it's covered in caramel and chopped peanuts. :teeth:

I keep my portions small but do I enjoy more junky type food when at Disneyland.

Anybody with me? :flower3:

I feel better :thanks: :rotfl:

It's about the experience, and that includes for me ice cream bars and churros.

::yes:: Totally. I think it's also about what I grew up with. Disneyland is the only place you'd catch me eating imitation butter popcorn while chasing it down with a churro.

I was just talking to the kids about all of the treats they are looking forward to. I can't say no there either. I'm sure 2 factors that Disney relies heavily upon.

Does anyone think the wheats buns are better?

Ooh I didn't know they had Dole Whips at Disneyland too! I love the sourdough bread bowls at California Adventure along with the soups!

They do have Dole Whips and Floats and they are amazing. :cloud9:

I have all these little Disneyland food combos too. For instance, I like:

  • a churro while waiting in line for the Matterhorn or IASW or both
  • popcorn and a few sips of an icy cold real, not diet, Coca Cola while in line for the HM
  • Dark Chocolate Rocky Road with my coffee
  • ice cream, either an ice cream bar or mint chip while waiting for the parade. If it's chilly and the parade is at night then I'll take a cookie and mocha from the bakery
  • a Dole Float while inside the Tiki Room

I am a total grazer when at Disneyland.

OK..yeeessss...popcorn, churro, dole whip, corn dog, ribs, are standard and this time I will look for a splurge on a Halloween dessert..crazy about anything pumpkin or apple with caramel sauce..not caramel apples..toooo goooey, but I think I saw a caramel apple muffin on the boards so may try that :)

Ribs??? Who has ribs? :hyper: I love anything pumpkin too. Caramel apple muffin? Only during Fall or so they have it during the winter holidays? I want a gingerbread man wearing chocolate Mickey ears and I want to dunk him in my coffee.

They will slice the apple for you before you leave the store omitting the sticky factor. :thumbsup2

Heck, I don't even drink Coke unless I am at DLR! :rotfl2:

It's the oddest thing - I keep a bit of carbonated soda (Coke or whatever) in the fridge year-round, in case my stomach bothers me or in case I have a guest or something. But all I ever actually drink with meals or in between meals is black coffee (no cream or sugar) and water (not flavored water or sparkling water - just regular, plain bottled water). That's it for me, day in and day out - plain coffee and water. (Sometimes I will even - gasp! - drink the "lite" coffee with only half the caffeine.:scared1::scared1::rotfl2:)

But...when I get to DLR, somehow all 'rules' from home immediately fly out the window, and suddenly I am putting cream in my coffee at breakfast and drinking soda with every meal like a madwoman!:rotfl2: The other day at DLR for Halloween Time, I got thirsty. I could have paid over 3 bucks for a bottle of water to stick to my usual habits, but no. Instead, I paid over 3 bucks for a Coke. Where is the logic in that? There is none.

And if I am going to drink a Coke at DLR, I want it to be the STRONG kind of Coke that burns the back of my throat as it goes down the hatch - all you Coke drinkers know what I mean. There is flat Coke and there is strong Coke. No flat Coke for me.

Next thing you know, I will be buying gingerbread and shortbread cookies (something I never do in everyday life) and eating peppermint ice cream cones (another thing I never do in real life). I wouldn't normally be collecting tons of candy for Halloween either, and yet, at the Halloween party in DL I was running from treat station to treat station, in every land, getting my candy like a maniac!

There's something in the DLR air that makes us all want things we wouldn't normally have. It's like we fall under a spell as soon as we pass through the tunnel and step onto Main Street.

Absolutely! It's magic! I feel you on the Coke thing. I used to be a huge Coke drinker; icy cold, burn your throat, fizzy in the nose, let out a huge sigh after the first sip Coke drinker.

I also wouldn't normally touch a rice krispie treat. Ever. But man, get me inside Disneyland and fuggetaboutit!

Funnel cake? I say yes!!!! ::yes:: My son is claiming he has never had one. That's going to change.

I also love the choc covered strawberries at WWS at the GCV. They are less expensive than the ones at Marceline's too.

Are the Dole whip floats like a pineapple smoothie type of dessert or pineapple flavored ice cream and how about the coke at the shop on the corner of main street? Does it taste different from the coke you buy at the store? Going to be there next Sat for 6 days:dance3: and want to try something new. Thanks!

We have regular food and VACATION food. My kids know that I'm not caving to any crazy food requests unless we're on vacation, which is almost always at DL. I don't say 'no' when we're on vacation either :goodvibes

Well....ok, I have to admit that I have some very unhealthy favorites at DLR. First, I do love Monte Cristos. I'd never consider something like that at home or anywhere else, for that matter, except maybe the real New Orleans. Is that a real New Orleans food? Speaking of which, I ADORE the beignets at Jazz Kitchen in DTD. Kind of eh on the ones in DL itself. And I have to have Mickey truffles. And usually something from the bakery. And Haagen Daazs.

Now I'm really dating myself here, but long ago, when I was a kid, I'd always make a beeline for the Welch's grape juice place. I loved those giant cups of grape juice. I wish they still sold those!

It's pineapple ice cream with pineapple juice poured on it. It's heavenly.

I didn't know you could buy a loaf. How much are they?

I have no idea how much they are but they have Mickey shaped loafs.

Vacation food is the perfect name for it. :thumbsup2 It's so true.

I think it would be fun Sherry if you has it with cherry. :)

Test Pilots Grill in DCA X-3 or X-5 ribs. If you need a lot the all you care to eat ones at Big Thunder Ranch BBQ. Tasty stuff.

Are Taste Pilot's any good? beef or pork?

Oh god guys...you listed all this good stuff...screw weight watchers for the week I am going!:rotfl:

 Just have a few bites like I do......I bet you'll maintain. You will walk a ton plus the 5th taste of soemthing doesn't tate any better then the 1st or 2nd. ;)

 I remember the grape juice! I swear I remember Disneyland selling cotton candy too but for the life of me can't remember the last time I saw it there.

My DD loves Tiger Tails but I found them tooth ache sweet.

Buttered, salty corn? Mmmm..........I also love the bread bowls after the soup is gone and it's all ooey gooey.

For the PP, the ribs are at Taste Pilots Grill over in DCA. Nummy! One of DH's favorites.

I *like* sweet potato fries. I don't eat them because they're healthy, I like them dipped in mayo. Does that absolve me of the taint of "health food?" :rotfl:

If I have a salad at DL it's the shrimp louie in a bread bowl on a hot day at DCA. Sometimes it's just too warm for soup.

We like our churros and our meaty kabobs and our Mickey bars. :) It's all about the meat for my guys.

I swear there is something in the air there , I am hungry all day long at the parks. I want to eat more often than my teenage football playing boys do! I go over the snacks and meals I want then try to get them all in the small days we are there, 1 of the reasons we added a 3rd day next trip , the addition of holiday snacks ........ohhhhhhh I cant wait.:cool1:
Last time we brought DH hearing him say are you guys really going to eat that got old............so he stays home!
Churros, dole whips, ice cream , pop corn, treats from poohs corner or marcelines, oh and I know there is more!!!
and yes i want fries with that!!!
