Substitute fries for salad? What is there to order for drinks other then soda? I have given up pop. Thanks Kathy

I think a lot of them substitute a bag of carrots for fries. And I believe you can get water or milk instead of soda.

Many CS locations have entree salads. As for the side, some give you the choice of apple slices or fries, As for drinks, you can get bottled water, unsweetened iced tea, light lemonade, milk, juice, and depending on the location there may be other choices.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will check out the menus on allearsnet. Kat

I have been eating healthy and don't drink sodas either and I had no problem at WDW in June! I drank alot of unsweetened tea, light Lemonade and water. I had apple slices instead of fries and they were good. I was surprised at the healthy options at CS places! BB has a great little turkey sandwich and Cosmic Rays has a good turkey wrap. ( I think I got the dressing on the side on that ) AK fast food place in Dinoland has a decent veggie burger- I just put lettuce, tomato, ketchup and mustard and it wasn't bad!:)

LOL For me, "eating healthy" and "Disney" just don't jive! LOL

Seriously though, it is my understanding from recent reading that Disney has done a lot on their menus to introduce healthier items, especially on the children's menus..to the point where milk is on the menu and soda "on request"

Yes I know I used to say this too. But I was diagnosed as prediabetic or metabolic syndrome and unless I want to run into some major trouble ten years down the road I have to change my ways. But thanks for all the replies. Kat

I can relate. I am a diagnosed hypoglycemic, with pre-diabetic characteristics. I find no problem eating in WDW. Yes, on occasion I will be bad, but I do so as a choice not for lack of choices. My word of caution, be careful of WDW sugar-free/no added sugar options. Even though they are low in sugar, many of them are super high in carbs. I now that greatly affects me. I carry either jerky or a protein bar in my backpack to ensure I can have a higher protein snack if I need it. So long as you make the right choices for you, you'll be fine. Everyone with sugar issues reacts differently to WDW. You may have to adjust your typical eating habits, I find I have to eat more in WDW to combat higher then normal activity levels. How recently was your diagnosis?

I believe there are some threads specifically pertaining to diabetic eating over on the DISabilities board.

I've found it almost impossible to eat "hippie healthy" at WDW (organic, local, grass fed, free trade, little chickens living little chicken lives in chicken utopia before becoming my dinner) - I only manage a little of that at home. It isn't hard to avoid soda, french fries, and sugared snacks - if you have the discipline. But having your own snacks is not a bad idea for anyone - and Disney does allow you to bring in food.

Also remember that you don't have to order an entire basket that is on the menu. You can just order a chicken sandwich (or whatever) without fries. You can also just order a side of fries (or carrots or whatever). You can order a kids meal. You can order milk or apple juice or water. You can order any of those things in combination.

Basically, if it's listed on the menu anywhere, you can order it. Alone or with other things.

I was diagnosed a little over two weeks ago.

I was diagnosed a little over two weeks ago.

It will get easier. I'm 2+ years since my diagnosis. What worked best for me, was keeping a food journal of everything I ate. I also kept notes on how I felt, and recorded my glucose levels. By keeping the journal, and learning to understand the process of my body, I was able to recognize when my sugars are dropping, BEFORE, I crash. Pay attention to how you feel. I do allow myself fries once and a while, but I do so only when I am eating something higher in protein like a burger or chicken without the bun. Don't deprive yourself, just make good choices.

You didn't mention if you were in the DDP but if you are you can order yogurt or another bag of carrots etc. instead of desert. If they say no at the register just ask if they'll swap it when they give you the tray. A desert at lunch and dinner is crazy but a little yogurt or applesauce for a snack later works great...

Yougart may not be a good choice for some (myself included). Many times (more so than not) it is loaded with sugars. I'd personally go with the apples, the fiber will reduce the net impact carbs.

i dont drink soda either and prefer a nice bottle of Dasani. When we went to the CS in DTD it was WPE and they had the Dasani but said that it was NOT on the DP, so i got tea which i didnt want.

Other than that instance, i had gotten Dasani with my CS meals.

It's also the same price as soda on those little carts, which was $2 last Oct.
