This is something I've always been interested in trying and with two trips in the works, I'd really like to fit it in to one of them!

In September, DH and I are going Labor Day weekend with our 16yo daughter and three of her 16yo girlfriends. Obviously, I wouldn't want to do this with them , but I did think it might be something fun for DH and I to do one afternoon while the girls are off doing something else. That's one possibility.

In November, DH and I are going back with another couple who are good friends of ours. We are on the DDP on this trip (QSDP in September with the girls), so I'm having a hard time figuring out where to fit this in around our ADRs. Right now, I don't have any specific plans for our departure day and thought it might work there. WS opens at 11:00 a.m. ME will pick us up from the WL around 3:30p.m. for the trip to the airport. Good idea or bad idea? None of us are heavy drinkers, so I don't think we'd have to worry about over-indulging and messing up our return travel plans.:faint:

I can't believe no one weighed in on this.

I would be more apt to do it on an afternoon with your DH over Labor Day. The reason why I wouldn't want to do it in November on the last day of the trip, is that you might feel lousy on the plane trip home. I don't think alcohol and flying mix well. On the other hand, Labor Day weekend will likely be hot, so you will want to be sure to avoid dehydration.

Thanks, msp2mco. You make a good point. It might be a little more relaxing on the Labor Day trip, too, since we won't be worried about making it back to the resort for our ME pick-up.:)

Is your November trip after the Food & Wine festival ends? If so, I agree with msp2mco. If it's during Food & Wine, I'd try to rearrange your schedule to give yourself an open day in Epcot.

It is after - November 16-20.

My DH drank around the world last trip. It took him the whole day (well, I made him space it out through the whole day--early afternoon to late evening), and it cost about $75. Beware that some of the places close early (DH missed Canada because when we got back around to it they were closed; I can't remember if it was an EMH night or not). He says he didn't feel badly the next day, and he's not a very seasoned drinker.

I can't see it really working on your departure day. It would be very rushed with minimal time to enjoy it. You should be waiting for your return bus to WL by 2:30 at the absolute latest, I would shoot for 2 personally. But you are then looking at 4 hrs or less (remember you need 15-20 minutes to get to the buses). If you and your DH share a drink at each country, then you will each be consuming approx 5 1/2 in the 4 hrs. Not too bad, depending on your body type you might feel it just a bit, but I strongly advise against you each having your own.

Maybe split it up over 2 days that trip? Do half one day, and then finish it off your departure day?

Absolutely no way should you attempt this the day you fly! DW and I have done this a couple of times, and it is now something we try to fit in every time we visit WDW. Like others have said, it is best to do it slowly and take your time. One of the reasons we do it is because we love to take in the atmosphere of every country, people watch, have a few snacks along the way, just really really enjoying it. I would think it would be very hard to enjoy trying this if you have a flight to think of.

So in my opinion, go when you are not flying home. Does it really matter if its a bit busier? All you'll be doing is buying a few drinks and taking a seat to relax whilst everyone rushes around you!

PS.... for some great photo's - try on a hat and take a pic in each country and each time you have a drink! DW and I were in hysterics by the time we finished this!

Thanks, mountdew1. I think I've decided to either fit it into our Labor Day trip, or find another day during our November trip other than our departure day.

I'm curious about something in your post - why do you feel that we should be ready for ME pickup at 2:00 p.m.? A flight time of 6:30p.m. would mean a ME pick-up of 3:30 p.m., right?

ETA: Nevermind, mountdew1. I see now where you were talking about catching a bus from Epcot back to our resort by 2-2:30 p.m. :)

Thanks, thestevied. I think you're right about not trying this in November before our flight home. The last thing I want is to be sick on an airplane! :scared1:

I hadn't really given much thought to which option would be busier with more crowds. Are you saying that you think Labor Day weekend will be? Food & Wine will not have started yet.

Great suggestion about the pics!:goodvibes

Not really a good idea. You'll need to be ready for pickup with your whole party and all your carryon luggage no later than 3:15. And give yourself at least an hour to get back to WL from Epcot using Disney transportation. If you're in the WS you will have to be out by the bus stop by 2, and you still have to get to the bus stop from the World Showcase. So you'd have a total of two hours to two and a half hours. If you think that's enough time, go for it.

The previous poster apparently meant you should be ready for the bus back to WL from Epcot at 2, not for DME pickup. Meaning you should actually be AT the bus stop waiting for the bus at 2, not that you start walking out from WS to the bus stop at 2.

Don't think thats quite long enough. ;) Having to rush around would just take the fun out of it, I think.

After I went back and reread her post, I see where mountdew1 was talking about the bus back to our resort from EP. Thanks for helping to clarify. :goodvibes

My DH and I do this every trip to Epcot. Kids are older and do the Kim Possible save the world as we take turns at each country. So you are only doing every other world. Snacking as we go so there is no embarasment for our kids because mommy and daddy have had one to many:rolleyes1. Do it when you have time to enjoy each world and are in no hurry. :thumbsup2

Like the way that sounds!:thumbsup2

I think I may have found the perfect time for DH and I to do this. On our second day, we will be doing AM EMH at DHS. My touring plan has us in the park until about 4:00 p.m. (unless crowds run us out of there earlier), at which time we will take the boat over to the Beach Club to let the girls experience the Kitchen Sink. ;) Afterward, probably around 6:00ish I figure, we will walk to EP to catch a bus back to the resort for some pool time. Instead of taking the bus back to Pop with the girls, DH and I can just stay in EP and have fun eating/drinking around World Showcase. As we are on the QSDP this trip, we don't have any ADRs for dinner, so this can be our meal for the evening. I like the idea of doing this at night when it could be a little bit cooler. We could even stay and enjoy Illuminations if we decided to. Sound good?

This is my kinda thread........now this is what I call trip planning!!!!! I love the hat idea. My first trip to Disney World, my DH and I enjoyed the Rose and Crown Pub a little too much and made our way to Canada. At some point I was photographed with a moose hat on and sporting a very unflattering facial expression!!!
This photo seems to surface every now and then.......funny though.....I cannot seem to find the photo of DH!!:confused3

LOL -- Lacy we will be doing our first drinking around the world the very same day as you! We are arriving on the 23rd of Aug with the grandkids and when they leave with mom and dad -- it's time for me and Pa to have some relaxing adult/recovery time! I snagged a ressie for LeCellier for lunch (drink #1) and a dinner for the biergarten (with drinks in between). I went to the DISign thread and got a logo for making our "drinking around the world shirts" and used a Disign to make a passport that we plan on getting signed by each of our bartenders! - enjoy and I'll look for you!
