Eateries outside of DLR

Can you guys tell me some of the best eateries around the DLR resort area? I have never been so just looking for some good eating joints. Also, is California Pizza Kitchen any good?

There are tons of places, both within walking distance and driving distance. Nearby is Millie's and Mimi's. Mimi's is more expensive but great food. I like Millie's too. It has quite a large menu. Also Mickey D's right there. Forget IHOP. It's more expensive than the other IHOP's. Farther down is Anaheim Gardenwalk, with McCormick and Schmick's, Bubba Gump, and Cheesecake Factory. I love Cheesecake Factory!! A farther distance--too far to walk, is Joe's Crab Shack, Red Robin, Bucca di Beppo and a bunch more along the way. No shortage of places to eat.

Mimis is good, but the portions are really big so you can easily share your meal and be satisfied. We also tried joes crab shack and it was delicious. It was really nice to sit outside and have a drink and some seafood. They have a mini play area and balloons for the kids too.

I'm not usually a dennys fan but when we left the park @ 12:30 am after being there all day their pancakes were so yummy.

The taqueria (however you spell it) in DTD was awful. If you are in the mood for mexican there are some great places not too far down harbor.

What surprised us is how much we enjoyed the food inside DL. Prices seem high but when you figure one order (like the monte cristo) can feed three it evens out okay. For the record I didn't like the monte cristo at cafe orleans, but the onion soup is to die for.

We like California Pizza Kitchen and will sometimes go to the one at home, but have never been to the one by DL. Their deep fried artichoke appetizer is amazing.

We tried Fire + Ice this plast trip because some DISrs said it was good. We were sorely disappointed and won't go there again.

Mimi's can be hit or miss. The portions are larger (which is nice), but as with most places that means the quality of food isn't as great. I've eaten there in the past and gotten served ice cold quiche.

An earlier poster didn't like Tortilla Jo's, but our family likes it. Several decent vegetarian options, which is harder to come by at some other places.

Rainforest Cafe is more like dinner and a show if you have little kids, but the food is mediocre. The drinks, however are tasty. ;-)

I agree with Bungle. We enjoy some of the food inside DLR more than the area around it. Cafe Orleans (we love the Monte Cristos) and Red Rockett's (chicken fusilli pasta - no chicken for veggies) are two of our favs.

Hungry Bear was "ok". Two of our three veggies don't eat tomatoes so they had to have the veggie burger. One liked it, two didn't. They all did love the sweet potato french fries though.

Mentioned before but we have always had great food at Mimi's (the carrot cake you get as a starter....AMAZING). Denny and IHOP are always packed so we haven't ever gone, Crab Shack had great seafood (imagine that) or farther down Harbour is Red Lobster. Cheesecake Factory is around there too.

Mimi's Cafe is good. Bubba Gumps too. If you'll have a car a great fast food place is Del Taco. There is one south on Harbor. I love the Del. The food is good and inexpensive. Much better than Taco Bell, IMHO. Not authentic Mexican, but good gringo food.

In DTD we like Ralph Brennan's Jazz Express. The Gumbo Ya Ya and Fried Shrimp are very good. Kid's meals are good and pretty reasonable. DD11 and I usually share an item. And for dessert the beignets are very good.

A little further down the 5 freeway there is an Olive Garden as well as another Pizza Kitchen. At Main Place, at the 5 and 57 freeway.

If you want some authentic italian and a lot less resort feel, Mama Cozza's is great. It is a small, but very well-known eatery. Guy Fierri (spelling probably off) had it on one of his episodes. We went last week and the pizza was amazing. We will definitely be back. It is west on Ball road just about 10 mins away.

This...I agree with this 100% percent. The only thing I'd add is to avoid both Captain Kidd's (cheap but it's nasty and gross) and Tortilla Joe's in DTD, we've now eaten at TJ's twice and both times DBF and myself have had tummy issues within a day of eating there......not fun!

Because no one likes it? LOL No, I know people do but I don't so I'd never suggest it myself.

Millie's for a huge menu full of down home comfort food. We love it, and portions are big enough to split. Service is quick and friendly, and it's not expensive.

Please, can you tell us what you didn't care for about Fire & Ice? We have also heard it is good, and bought a restaurant.com certif. ($25) for $4. Wondering what you didn't care for, about it. Thanks!

For Italian food, Marri's on Katella never disappoints: http://marrispizza.com/ . It's been there for almost as long as the Park's been around; the portions are huge, the prices are good (no astronomical markup because it's in the DLR area, like most places), they offer free delivery to area hotels, and it's impossible to have a bad meal there.

I just returned from DL, here's where we ate and what I thought:

RainForest: I knew going in this place is mostly for atmostphere, but the food isn't bad at all. Not gourmet, but tasty, with good sized portions. The staff here was very friendly too.

IHOP: Crowded, busy, overpriced and the food was awful. Both my daughter and I felt ill after eating.

Catal's: By far the best place I dined at, hands down. The food was interesting, creative and very delicious. My daughter had a birthday coupon good for $30 off....WIN WIN!

My group liked Fire and Ice. We even had a bunch of allergy issues and they took good care of us.

It's not fancy, but it is fun and tasty. The drinks were good, too.

The drinks were quite good at Fire + Ice, but the food was only mediocre. We're half veggie, half non-veggie family and there just didn't seem to be enough variety for any of us. 3 of us just defaulted to veggie or beef teriyaki. And my youngest DD who is a vegetarian (and we even said so hoping they'd give a little more room between meals since it wasn't crowded at all) ended up getting a piece of someone elses meat mixed in her food.

Perhaps we're spoiled by so many Mongolian BBQ places where we live, but we all said we'd not go back to Fire + Ice.
