We will be in Disney 09/30-10/04 and plan to spend at least one day at Epcot for Food & Wine (couples trip w/friends). We would like to take in an Eat to the Beat show, but am curious about which of the three times (5:30, 6:45, 8:00) might have the lowest crowds. Any suggestions?

That is such a good question. All three shows seem crowded to me. I'm sure a lot depends on which act it is and how large their fan base is. Sometimes when I'm not able to get a seat I'll sit with an adult beverage across the walkway somewhere in the American Adventure. You can't see the band very well but you can sure still hear them. Did that for Herman's Hermits. I really wanted to see Sister Sledge and Kool and the Gang so I waited in line with everybody else. Didn't get a good seat but at least I got one. These were all either the first two shows. I've never tried to attend the last one.

Always a tough question to answer, but from our experience with F&W the first show is typically the most crowded. They're all usually well attended, so if I had to pick a crowd level order lowest to highest I would say 6:45, 8:00 and then 5:30 [highest]. Interestingly enough 2 acts are already listed [Steve Soares site] for your stay; Christopher Cross - 9/30 - 10/1 and Starship - 10/2 - 10/4. I can tell you from experience that Starship plus a weekend will be very crowded for all shows. Christopher Cross less so with the weekday nights. Good luck and have fun!

As PP stated it varies on who is performing, but in general the first show has the largest crowds. We no longer use the stand by line, preferring to wait on the opposite side about 15-20 minutes ahead of time. Once the stand by has entered, they open all areas so we will sit on the brick planter as close to stage as allowed. Great vantage point!
Last F&W for Starship, CM offered us 3rd row for last concert as she had seen us at previous 2 shows and there was still room.

We've attended multiple shows by the same group, same night and the later the show the lower the crowds. Also from the food blog:

The first show is the most crowded with the last show being the least crowded. If its a popular group all three will obviously still be full but if the group isn't very popular you might see some empty seats for the last show at showtime.

Add in Christopher Cross Sept 30-Oct 1

I agree with OrlandoMom, I just wait until everyone has been seated and cop a squat on the planter. It's open air so you can stand just about anywhere near it and hear the music and you can see the band from just about any angle around the theater.

If we decide to do the stand-by line (as opposed to sitting on the planter once SB line has entered the theater), how soon before showtime would you suggest getting in line?

I am agreeing with most of the previous...the later the show, the lower the crowds.

Standby line enters the theater about a half hour before showtime. It will then be cut off. I don't wait in it usually. I walk in after the standby line has entered and they drop the ropes on the rest of the theater. I don't have to sit on a planter either.

Totally agree. We usually will sit with a beverage and/or snack at the outside Liberty Inn seating area and wait for the stand by line to start moving. Then we clean up (you can take food and drink into the seating area) and walk over to the theatre and then use the now open other entrances.

If you don't have a chase visa card, get one. Then go to the Chase lounge on the second floor of the American Pavilion when world showcase opens and get a wrist band. They'll have a reserved section for you.

Depends on who is performing. The 8 pm show for Boyz to Men was crowded last year.

Yes, but only on certain days of the week.

I bet we crossed paths in the lounge on Nov 3. That was the only day wristbands were avail for Boyz to Men. They never disappoint. ::yes::

It was Nov 3rd. I met up with another Diser and we did F&W together and then did the concert. I think we did the 5:30 one though ...oh, and we got lucky and got tickets to the scallop demo .... Which was sold out online, but they squeezed us in!

Starship's first two nights are Friday Saturday so likely all shows will be full. SB line will be shortest for the third show tho.

If Chase is again giving out wristbands, try to get there fairly early. We got bands for the first Starship concert on Saturday last year and we got the last ones at 2pm.
