Has anyone read it? Are you looking forward to seeing the movie in August with Julia Roberts?

I read the book. I didn't like it and won't be seeing the movie though I love Julia Roberts.

I tried to read it, after hearing great things about it, but I thought it was terrible.

I read it but it took me a whole year to finish it. Don't know if I will see it. Can't imagine Julia Roberts playing the part of her though.

I hated the book, too. Parts of it ( for me ) were like watching paint dry...

Though the cinematography will probably be beautiful, I'll be skipping the movie.

I read the book, and like the others here, it was definitely not one of my favorites.

Elizabeth Gilbert comes off, to me at least, as a big whiner. Most of the book was "poor me, my marriage ended". Got very annoying.

The middle section of the book was SOOOOOOO long and boring. Mostly it was about her feeling like she was not meditating correctly - meditation is boring enough, but to read someone writing about meditation was too much.

All it all, I did not understand all the whoop-la about this book. And I probably won't see this movie.

Haven't read it and don't intend to. Not a huge Julia Roberts fan either. And hardly ever go to the movies. So I guess that means I won't be seeing it!

My nephew and his family moved to Ubud, Bali, Indonesia last November, and he is so hoping the movie doesn't bring a bigger influx of tourists.

I read it and liked it. I am an English major and have to read a lot of difficult lit throughout the semester. This book was a breath of fresh air! I'll admit, the middle portion got a little far out for me, but I still liked the book. I am looking forward to the movie.

love love loved the book. read it at a really tough time in my life and it helped me to see things in my life in new ways.

not sure about the movie. because the book meant so much to me, my guess is it will be hugely disappointing to me.

I struggled through parts of the book although I liked the concept. I think this might be one where the movie improves the story, lol!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the book, I think it really depends on where you are in your life...cant wait for the movie!!!

As like mtemm, this book means a lot to me. I LOVED it, but I am struggling to read her follow up....

I am excited for the movie.. i'm hoping it won't be a disappointment (as most films are when you read the book first):goodvibes

I read the book and enjoyed it a lot. I loved the tedious discussions about meditation and the other stuff.

As far as the movie, eh, I will wait till cable unless it gets good reviews then I might put it in my Netflix Q.

Really? Julia Roberts? :confused3 Not that I don't like her but really? Yea....she really looks like she is going to struggle with men and divorce.:lmao:

Ummm...Lyle Lovett?:rotfl:

Picked up the book and put it down several times~ the time that I did read it all the way through, I liked it, it was just the right timing and for several reasons the book did speak to me.
I probably will see the movie when it comes on DVD, but I have to look at it as a separate entity from the book, as what I visualized reading the book is nothing like the clips I saw from the movie on Oprah.

I just finished the book last week, and I was really disappointed in it.

I did think it would make a wonderful bookclub book if for no other reason than to discuss why I didn't like it.

One of my favorite books. Loved it. After yesterday's Oprah show, I realized I should re-read it.

I will be seeing the movie. :thumbsup2
