Eat at home

This thread is such an inspiration!!! I have been saying forever that I need to menu plan and food shop around that but never really started doing it. Well, after spending time reading this thread yesterday, I made a 2 week menu plan and went food shopping today. I even drove one town over to the cheaper grocery store. I estimate that on the food shop alone I saved about $50-60!

Then, when I factor in that I will not be having DH pick up something on his way home from work, I think we'll be saving another $60-80!

Thanks guys!!!!! :cool1:

I must admit we ordered pizza last night. We have been doing a ton of decluttering around here and were both exhausted. But we did have a buy one get one free coupon so it was fairly cheap.

Tonight we are doing soup and sandwiches

Last night was Chicken Piccata with the leftover chicken. I made it with mixed veggies and pasta in a lemon, chicken broth and caper sauce with a bit of white wine for flavor. Perfection! Tonight we had Shepards Pie with the last of the leftover chicken. I layered the chicken on the bottom and then corn and then mashed taters topped with cheese. Oh, and I made broth with all the bones and skin and I added veggies. I freeze in one cup portions so we don't have to use canned broth with all that sodium and MSG in our dishes. So for around $6 that roaster gave us 3 meals and broth...pretty darn good;)

This is a great thread, I have found several new menu items I want to add to my list :thumbsup2 My family is currently living off one income so we have been doing a lot of freezer meals which is great because it allows me to plan an entire months worth of food out and then shop accordingly. This week we are having:

Monday (was) Lasange Belmonte
Tuesday (was) Tuscan Turkey Burgers
Tonight: Caribbean Tilapia with Mango salsa and rice
Thursday: Oriental Steak over rice with broccoli
Friday: Transylvania Layered Cabbage (family thing :))
Saturday: Leftovers
Sunday: Szechuan Chicken and veggies

Good for you with the decluttering! I'm with you there, my laptop crashed, now I'm forced to conquer this clutter that piled up in my office, I have been using it for a dumping ground for far too long, and now I'm dealing with it head on! At least I had a desktop to use, thank goodness it's still doing fine so far! :thumbsup2

Oh I forgot to mention my menu, although it's not in any order, since I haven't been writing it down, kind of winging it lately, but here's some of the items we've had lately:

BBQ Pork Sandwiches
Using the leftover BBQ Pork, I made a Chili Verde, which was really good, the BBQ sauce gave it a sweet tang!
Homemade Creamy Mac n' Cheese
Chunky Chicken Noodle soup
Safeway frozen Pizza ($5 each, cheap dinner)
spaghetti w/turkey burger
Macaroni Salad

I plan on making some of these items in the next few weeks: broccoli chicken casserole, homemade pizza, egg salad w/tomato soup, goulash, clam chowder, minestrone, frittata, salmon with jicima/apple slaw

Working all of that over time kind of backfired. I worked the 2 extra 12 hour shifts in 1 pay period, and didn't make much off of the 2nd 12 hour shift because of taxes, not to mention....I'm exhausted!! :sad2: Oh well, it's still more money than I had...

Menu for the next week or so:

Wednesday we had Fried chicken, biscuits, green beans
Today - Pot roast, potatoes, asparagus
Friday – frozen pizza (got them about $5/piece w/sale + coupon)
Saturday – Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze, coleslaw, cornbread
Sunday – order out after church?? (church in am, then husband does confirmation class 4 pm and youth group 6p-8p) - maybe corn chowder for dinner?
Monday - Steak, beef rice-a-roni, green beans
Tuesday - Rotisserie Chicken, red skin potato salad

We've skated by so far this week, eating leftovers or cereal or something fished out of the freezer, but no eating out. :thumbsup2

After going shopping yesterday, here's what's on the menu for us in no particular order:

club sandwiches, chips, probably a salad for me
tacos (I make a taco salad for me)
salmon/mahi mahi - we live in a house divided re: fish preferences ;)
pizza - homemade
chicken on the grill

Have a great rest of the week everybody! :goodvibes

It seems that I always start decluttering when I am forced to. But unlike other times I am continuing with every single room in the house. It feels good to be able to find what I need and that things are starting to come together.

Tonight we are having BBQ pork chops with mashed potatoes and corn.

Tonight was food shopping spent $67 and saved $92 in Price Plus specials and coupons. I love couponing...lol:cool1:

We went to Wendy's for our shopping night treat. I am going to sit now and make some menus for the next couple days. I also want to make some brownies and pancakes to freeze. Hopefully I can work on on that tomorrow!!

Let's keep up the good work everyone

Tonight is Basil Shrimp Skewers on the grill, grilled vegetables (potatoes, bell pepper, onion, squash, and zucchini), and tomato cucumber salad in Italian Dressing.

This is what I made for dessert tonight
