Eat at home

Trying to use up some of the veggies I got in my CSA share this week, I put potato leek soup in my crockpot this AM. We'll see how that turns out and if anyone in my family will eat it! I also started some homemade bread last night, finished off the dough this AM and it is rising while I'm at work. Hubby will be home at 3:00 and I'll have him punch it down. I want to be a stay at home mom just so I can work on my breads after the proper alotted time! Egh even if the bread doesn't turn out great, homemade bread is better than store bought every time!

Still holding strong to my budget, although I had $15 left in my eating out budget and we stopped at KFC and got the family bucket and it came to $20, so I went $5 over.

Today we are going out to eat but my parents are visiting and they are treating us! WHOOHOO! It is an all you can eat place and didn't let the kids have much breakfast and they will be HUNGRY! LOL!

2 more days and I can re-budget for October! We head to Disney Oct 16.

Dawn

Well just GREAT:sad2: From all my cooking- my oven protested and broke! It's a wall oven with a microwave on top that is also broken.

To fix - eh not worth it. I hate this thing.
So we are looking to replace it with a double oven. But until then it'll be stove top meals (also an issue since one of my 4 burners isn't working. But I will fix that. I am guessing the gas valve is clogged. So if you don't hear from me I blew up my house too.

Oh no! :sad2: Well most things that you would cook in the oven you can probably make in a crock pot, do you have one? I hate when things break. I hope you find a nice double oven. I love having a double oven but my needs replacing too and they are soooo expensive!

You had to see me last night with the roast chicken that was for dinner- I took it out of the oven- cut it up with my Chicken Shears- threw it into a pan on the stove top added some stock- put a cover on it and thankfully within 20 minutes it was finished.

So the cooking helped me save last nights dinner- dh kept saying- "I should just go get a pizza'- um NO!

I had a dud of a crock pot recipe last time. I'll try another one. Seems we don't like Chicken in there- more of beef eaters from the crock I guess.

Well we did stick to the menu all last week and resisted the urge to get take out when things got crazy busy but we did go out on Saturday and Sunday this week! I feel okay with that though because we did do so good all week:goodvibes Sitting down and relaxing over a dinner out is a much better way to spend my money than pizza and wings delivered from our local pizza shack! DD9 had a soccer game out of state on Saturday and I planned to pack a lunch and dinner but we only ended up packing lunch and eating out on the way home and Sunday we went to a Kiwanis Club fundraiser showcasing local restaurants. This week I hope to avoid the Carside to Go options and drive thru again and just enjoy a night out over the weekend, here's hoping.......
My menu for the week is....
Monday-Beef and Blue Stir Fry..Broccolli and Garlic Cheddar Biscuits
Tuesday-Spagetti and Marinara...Tossed Salad....Garlic Knots
Wednesday-Toasted Meatball Parm Subs...Tossed Salad
Thursday-Quesadilla's with steak, cream cheese, bacon and jalapenos
Friday-Grilled Cheese, Tomato Soup

Saturday we have another soccer game far away plan to eat lunch before we leave and to pack snacks so we can wait till we get home to eat we shall see.
Sunday we are packing lunch to eat on the way to Citi Field to see the Mets game again this sunday, we will eat dinner somewhere on the way home.

Oh no! I hope you can replace your stove soon. I second the crock pot you can throw anything in there.

I hope you get your oven situation figured out soon. I agree with others who have suggested a crock pot. I use mine religiously.

Tonight we decided to have leftovers since I have class and it will be easier.

So the potato leek soup (which I made in the crockpot BTW) was pretty darn good. I even managed to get my homemade bread in the oven and done in time for supper. I'm trying to bake bread a lot more often, I even started a blog about my bread baking journey of learning :rotfl: Served with tomato cucumber salad, it was a nice dinner and I finally cleared out some of the veggies from my CSA share. I don't cook with leeks much!

Sounds yummy, did the kids like it too! I have never had leeks, they are similar to onions or no? I would have to just call it potato soup with my kids but it sounds like a great way to try something new:goodvibes

The leek looks like a super sized scallion and yes tasted like a mild onion.

No the kids hated it. My daughter actually cried after she took a bite! I told them it was brocolli soup since they like brocolli but that didn't help.:rotfl:

I thought it was quite good though, i have some packed for lunch today. Are we allowed to post links to our blogs here? I'm trying to get some readers for my bread blog, I hate writing to no one even though I suppose it is theraputic and a good way to document for myself the sucesses of failures of the various bread techniques I come across.

Good for you! Enjoy sushi night Friday! A well deserved treat ;)

I was up early this morning and so I made a bunch of stuff to freeze for night's I have class which is Monday- thursday. So my upstairs freezer is slowly gettin full. Right now I have chicken noodle soup on the stove and chicken enchiladas in the oven to freeze.

Tonight we are having chicken meatball subs (I made the meatballs this morning and added in the last little bit of spinach we had to them) with zucchini fries.

I would really like to get a timer for my crock pot but I haven't been able to find one. Where did you all get yours and what area of the store did you find it in?

Thank you!

I think people already have crock pots with a timer I don't think you can buy just a timer
