Tuesday- Busy day today dentist followed by art class followed by theater class home at 6 just in time to make pancakes for diner and freeze some for breakfasts.
Wednesday- A whole chicken with rice and a veggie
Thursday- chicken noodle soup ( hopefully there is enough chicken left over :worried:)
Friday- Homemade pizza and fries with a Disney movie on the side
Saturday- Hummmmmm maybe soup? we shall see
Sunday- food shopping
Monday-pending
Tuesday-pending
Wednesday-pending for diner but for lunch we are going out with my husband father yum sushi!!!!!

So until next Wednesday i will not eat out and bonus we are not paying for Wednesday more money for Disney!!!!

Ever time now that i want to eat out I have to say to myself is it worth waiting longer for Disney or do i really want it?? I need to go to Disney must save money!!!!!:cool1:

This is what our menu is for the week. I spend a average of $100/4 of us including pet supplies and soda. Notice the operative term crockpot. I work till 6 everynight and need stuff thats ready or doable in 20 mins.
taco salad
chili and the next day chili cheese fries
crockpot chicken tortilla soup
crockpot pot roast with potatoes and veggies
crockpot ribs with coleslaw
cajun battered tilapia with potatoes
chicken picata
brats and tatertots

Tomorrow is my shopping day and double coupon day. It is not a meat week so I probably will spend around $70.00.

OK here is ours...
yesterday - Sour Cream Pork Chops, Rice, Broccoli
Today - Whole Roasted Chicken, Carrots, Potatoes (in the crockpot now)
Wed - Skillet Chicken Pot Pie (with leftovers from last night)
Thu - Baked Potato Soup/Cheesy Biscuits
Fri - Leftovers
Saturday - Breakfast for Dinner
Sunday - Spaghetti

Recipe? Please include the cut of pork that works for it, I've been having problems with pork chops being either underdone (I don't like the texture) or dried out.

Also, what is this Buttered Beef you all are speaking of? I went back a couple of pages, but didn't find it!

I have actually used both bone in and boneless pork chops for this, thick and thin cut. The key to this is just to put it on really low heat for a while and they become so tender! They are a little weird to be honest, like a different flavor, but so good. I actually put a little more sugar in too because my DH likes it sweeter. Ever since I did that, this is one of his favorites, where he didn't like it much at first without that.

But here is the recipe...

Awesome thanks...this is on deck for tomorrow!!! (a few days late...but better late than never right???)

Also, I was looking at your crock pot chicken pot pie recipe....how much corn starch to water???? Mine always seems too thin! :confused3

TIA

Just enough water so that the cornstartch isn't pasty anymore. I'd start with 2 tbsp cornstarch and 2 tbsp water, add that and let it cook in the crockpot for a few minutes, If that isn't thickening up do another 2tbsp cornstarch to 2 tbsp water and add it in, I can't see needing more than that. You just don't want to add the cornstarch without thining it sufficently in water 1st or else it just forms a big clump of cornstarch when you add it to your hot chicken pot pie sauce. Good luck! Let me know how it turns out!;)

Thanks! Looks a bit like my stroganoff recipe (got from a friend), where you cook in water, dry mustard and sugar, then add some lemon, a little vinegar and the sour cream. I've started making it with chicken, and it's still pretty good.

Hi! A while back when someone posted their menu for the week they had "butter beef" listed for one dinner. I didn't know what it was so I Googled it and found the following recipe:

Ingredients
3 pounds cubed beef stew meat
1/2 cup butter
1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
Directions
1.Place the beef and butter into a slow cooker. Sprinkle the onion soup mix over. Cover, and cook on Low for 8 hours, or High for 4 to 5 hours. Stir once or twice.

When I made it I had it in the crockpot on low for about 9 hours and it came out too dry and too oily but it was still tasty. I recommend to anyone making it to decrease the butter to 1/4 cup and add 1/2 cup of water, also try to stick to the 8 hours on low cooking time and if you like mushrooms add some sliced fresh mushrooms.

That sounds yummy!

I just got my own copy of the Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook! So I am already planning NEXT months menu. Planning a whole month can be hard, but is SO worth it. I love being able to go in and not have to worry about what I will be making for 4 weeks. With my class schedule I just can't do a menu week by week... I don't have time.

Once I get homework done today, I hope to get the menu done for next month. I'll post it here once I do!

wow i can't imagine planing a month in advance. But in the long run I am sure that it helps. good luck to you and your planning. :thumbsup2

I planned all of September out and it really made things easier and also cheaper at the grocery store!

I'm late in posting again this week. Been working on planning a possible trip to Key West and then up to Orlando for a few nights Christmas/New Year's, so I NEED to use A LOT of these ideas and recipes. No eating out for awhile for us (at least not what we spent this past Sat. ). I didn't stick to everything last week but didn't do badly either.

So far this week:

Sunday: French Dips

Monday: French Onion Soup (kids ate at Cook Out)

Tues: Salmon with corn/tomato topping; fresh strawberries

Wed: today, it's breakfast night here! Waffles with strawberry topping (I cooked down some strawberries), bacon, eggs, omelet for the husband

Thursday: Spare Ribs in crock pot, mashed potatoes, creamed corn w. bacon (I think I was doing this last week but didn't get around to it)

Friday: Meatloaf, mashed potato, green beans (husband loves meatloaf; kids have never been crazy about it so this is the night they will go to the high school game.

Sat: Potato cakes (if I have any potatoes left over).love these with garlic, onion, cheese somtimes, a meat (not sure what yet), OR Shrimp and garlic cheese grits.

Sun: Thinking pizza day!

Thanks you guys that liked my French Dip recipe. Hope it worked out for you if you tried it :)

Anybody ever been to Key West at Christmas??

So in no particular order here is my menu of the next week.

Homemade pizza & salad
taco skillet bake
pasta w/ meatsauce and salad
pasta w/ garlic and brocolli
stir fry and rice
fajita quesadillas and spanish rice
bbq chicken in crockot, pan fried fried potatos
chicken soup w/ orzo
chili

Was going to do the chicken pot pie for dinner but woke up to late to throw it in the crock pot so we will try it sometime later this month. So instead I took the chicken I was going to put in the pot pie and marinated it in tropical Hawaiian sauce and grilled it. We had corn and sweet potato fries on the side.

So just we had chicken for diner and it was good. here is what I have now for the next week and a half. I just think everyday that I want to eat out do I want ----- or do i want to save for Disney? Disney all the way

Tonight- whole chicken with rice, pasta salad and corn
Thursday 9/16- homemade chicken noodle soup with the left over chicken
Friday9/17- Homemade pizza and a movie
Saturday9/18- I am thinking left over spaghetti sauce
Sunday9/19- We have a family cook out for lunch so maybe we will just eat there late and have a snack for diner? Or i will throw on some grilled cheeses
Monday9/20- Sloppy joes
Tuesday9/21- maybe a roast in a crockpot?

So just wanted to check up and see how everyone is doing. For us our goal is not to eat out for at least 30 days. believe it or not we have never done that. I am talking no meals out or take out no coffee out and no fast food. basically everything comes from the super market and we stick to a budget of 120 per week. So far we are day 5/30 I know for us it will mean a lot of extra money to put to bills and to put in savings for Disney. Does anyone have a similar goal? Its a great challenge for us.

Never done that either but I'd like to join you! I could ask DH about it when he gets home and see if he would agree. We eat at home for the vast majority but we usually have lunch out every weekend at least once.

We don't eat out much but I know we have never gone 30 days.My problem usually comes when we are gone all evening for the kids' activities.I am about to leave now with DD6 to go to DD11's softball game at 4:30.Then
DS12 has a 6:00 fotball game.DS12 will eat with the team but the other three can't wait until 8 :30 to eat dinner.I am taking drinks and chips and will only buy them chicken sandwiches or hamburgers.I would take sandwiches but that is what they take for lunch almost every day.:confused3

I could never go 30 days without eating out and I commend those who try.

Here is an updated menu. My uncle is coming to town for tomorrow only (business) so we will go out to dinner with him before he heads home. Then Saturday I am on my own as my mom is going to the Ohio State game with friends and will be gone overnight. So I am having a meal that she does not like but I do

Tonight- London Broil with hashbrowns and glazed carrots
Tomorrow- Out to dinner with Uncle
Saturday- Kielbasa with German Potato salad and corn
Sunday- Crock pot potato and corn chowder
Monday- Pulled chicken sandwiches with swet potato fries
Tuesday- Vegetable beef soup with cheddar garlic biscuits
Wednesday- Chicken meatballs with pasta
Thursday- Teriayki ginger beef stir fry over rice
