Wednesday: Chicken bake (some with hot sauce before adding the bread crumbs) with salad and steamed green beans

We went out to eat last night:headache: To the tune of $55!! Oh well, we just moved here and my youngest loves, loves, loves Golden Coral and has been begging to return there, so we went. It was a busy night, so I was happy to not have to cook.

Spaghetti tonight, since we didn't eat it last night!

That's ok! Congrats on the move:thumbsup2

Great thread. We eat out way too much! For us, lunch is the hardest meal to avoid eating out. My kiddos are small and my husband is home for lunch most days. It really is an additional full meal that I should have a plan for, but I'm slacking there. I find that planning helps, but I have to commit to really sticking to the plan. I have meals and food for the next two weeks. The plan looks like this:

Tonight: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, carrots
Tomorrow: Tex-mex chicken, cornbread, lima beans
Saturday: Pancakes and eggs (we do this every Saturday)
Sunday: Birthday party, pizza will be provided
Monday: Italian meatball subs, salad, corn
Tuesday: Pork Chops, rice, peas
Wednesday: Chicken Sloppy Joes, fried potatoes, carrots
Thursday: Honey Dijon Tilapia, mashed potatoes, green beans
Friday: Dinner at my parents' house
Saturday: Pancakes and eggs
Sunday: Sunday dinner at my parents'
Monday: Marinated Chicken, rice, lima beans
Tuesday: Cheeseburger Pie, salad, corn

This is a great idea. If you eat out, you are paying extra on TAX and TIP and the PREMIUM of being able to have some cook for you. What we do at home is to thaw out frozen chicken and cook when its' ready.

We combine it with frozen veggies that we stocked up or from our veggie garden.

Also, we keep buying with coupons or on sale grocery items.

So yesterday went well. I made chocolate chip oatmeal raisin cookies and we had warm apple cider with them.

So here is a little updated list

Thursday we had- Meatloaf with corn and mashed potatoes
Friday- Homemade pizza and fries
Saturday- Breakfast
Sunday- Spaghetti
Monday-?

Thanks - that sounds fantastic!

French Toast Casserole

1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 loaf bread, sliced or cubed
8 eggs
7 oz. milk
1 Tbl + 1 tsp. vanilla

Melt butter in a 9x13" pan. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the bottom of the pan. Place bread to fill pan. Beat together eggs, milk, and vanilla. Pour over bread. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Cover with foil and refridgerate overnight. In the morning, bake at 350F for 45 minutes. The brown sugar/butter makes its own syrup, so no additional syrup is needed.

TiffanyK~Yesterday I made your Butter Brickle Pecan Cookies! They are yummy. I had enough to take to the school meeting last night (that is why I made them), but also some for the house and the rest I took to my husbands work last night. He is a fire fighter and they love treats. They told me I could make those anytime and bring them to the station house whenever! They really enjoyed them. :thumbsup2

Sure! It's very simple. The only thing is, it could cost a little more because I used ribeye steaks. BUT, I pay attention to when they go on sale at the market. All I did was put my steaks in (3 for a our family of four, including my always hungry 6'2", 15 year old son) the cooker with one can (10 1/2 ounce) of french onion soup, one can of water, same amount of beef broth (I'm pretty sure it was a cup; I'll double check on that) and 2 tsp. of worschestshire sauce and let it cook. I added more onions close to the end because I love a lot of onions, plus I knew I was doing the French onion soup the next day. I shredded the steak with just a fork and knife, after it was very tender.

I bought sub rolls at the store and toasted the on both sides in the oven.

I also bought provolone cheese to melt over the top (son preferred his without cheese)

We put a cup of au jus to dip on each plate.

Then, the French onion soup was just heated up broth from the night before. I took the same sub bread and cut it into pieces and toasted them in the oven, added them to the broth and topped it with provolone cheese and melted in the oven (could do this in a microwave as well but I like the crispy brown edges and oven gives it).

You could probably use a cheaper cut of meat but I was not sure what to use and when I googled it, someone said the ribeyes were the best. I figured we got 2 meals out of it so it was justified :) And actually, I got 3 meals because for lunch the next day , I had enough broth for one more bowl of soup!

This sounds fantastic! I am going to try this soon. :thumbsup2

Okay so heres what we're having for the next few days

Friday (tonight)- a mishmash of leftovers made into something new!
Sat- chiken fajitas
Sun- pasta w/ meatsauce and salad
Mon- crockpot "chicken pot pie" with pillsbury biscuits from "a tube"
Tues- crockpot beef stroganoff w/ egg noddles & frozen brocolli
Wed- leftovers
Thurs- chicken soup in the crock pot, orzo

Luckily soccer is only a 2 month thing because I'm going to run out of 'ready in no time' meals soon! :idea:Right now Wednesdays and Thursdays there is no time for dinner and this week I have a LONG PTA meeting on Monday so that has to be an easy night. Planning ahead is really helping though so I am LOVING this thread!:worship:

My goal is to not eat out this weekend. That would be an amazing thing, we always eat out a few times over a weekend!

I'm going to try buttered beef tomorrow and see how it turns out...any suggestions???

Yes! I loved buttered beef, tried it for the 1st time last week after hearing about it on this thread. You need a little water and if you like mushrooms put some in (fresh sliced would be best), I also didn't need the whole stick of butter, half a stick for my 3lb piece of meat would have been fine and I'm sure you know you need one packet of lipton onion soup mix. I think it only needs 6 or 7 hours in the crockpot on low, mine went longer and dried out some. Good luck!:goodvibes

I'm glad you liked them and that the fire fighters liked them too!

We've been trying to eat at home more too, and are doing a great job! So far, we really only eat out once a week, usually on Saturdays. Here's a list, in no particular order, of some of our meals. You'll see we don't eat very much red meat.

Southwest chicken with pasta

Chicken fajitas, spanish rice

grilled veggie sandwiches, baked sweet potatoes

white chicken chili, cornbread

homemade vegetable soup, leftover cornbread

dirty rice, green beans, corn on the cob

grilled chicken, baked beans, pasta

tacos, spanish rice

chicken and dumplings, veggie

meatloaf, rice, asparagus

ritzy chicken, veggie

grilled fish, veggie, pasta

turkey breast, German potato dumplings, mixed veggies

cracked pepper turkey loin, veggie, rice

white chicken pizza, green salad

crab tortellini, spinach salad

Football practice starts next week and we'll be on a major time crunch, so I'm about to go buy a new crock pot and start making some meals that way.

As part of my eat at home venture I am trying to make snacks too. I have at least 5 boxes of cereal that have a third or more left. Does anyone have a cereal bar recipe for these?
If it has peanut butter I can't send it to school but the kids could eat them at home, and the healthier the better.:):)

Well... went out to diner tonight but we went out with family friends that we never get to see. So i am writing this off as a good choice. And the sushi was amazing!!!!!!!:cool1: So back on track now

Sunday-Breakfast diner
Monday-Pasta?
