Tonight we had pork roast with roasted potatoes, carrots, applesauce, and rolls.

Tomorrow I am working an open to close so mom is having dinner with my aunt and I will have leftovers.

Haven't posted lately--been a whirl wind around here with the holidays and WAY too many fast food stops. Time to get back to it!

So here is our's starting today:

NYD: Pork Roast, cabbage, black eyed peas, mac and cheese and brownies with ice cream for dessert.

Thursday: Left overs
Friday: BBQ Ribs in the crock pot, mashed potatoes, lima beans
Saturday: Red Beans and Rice, corn bread, cole slaw
Sunday: stew with potatoes and carrots, peas, salad

School starts back next week and we have spring registration at work so got to come up with some easy meals or plenty of crock pot meals. During registration, I can't determine what time I will get home at night.

Just saw your signature and the thing about Adam Lambert! DD and I love him! And such an attractive man! She has bought two CD's since we went to his concert last week and that is all she has been playing around here. LOL

So, one of my New Years Resolutions is to make a budget and stick to it. Something I am really bad at! So, I need to try and lessen my monthly food budget. What do you all budget for your families for the month or week? Does it include any non-food related items?

We spend $150 every 2 weeks for our family of 4. That's breakfasts, lunch and dinners as well as bathroom/beauty products.

A food budget is something I am not too good at either. Seems like something always messes it up or I don't set enough or something.

But, it seems like through the month, I will spend $80-90 two weeks and $200 the other two weeks. So, I usually say $500 for the month. This includes household items and things like shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc.

I should add that's not what we budget. We don't really budget, we just get what we need and it always works out to $125-175 every 2 weeks, with $150 being the average.

I don't budget for food, but we average $100 a week for our family of three. That includes cleaning/toiletries/paper products too. What I need to get better at is using what we already have here, and just supplementing with the groceries I need. This thread is good for that, I need to get back to doing it!

So here goes...
Tonight- Roasted chicken, roasted carrots and potatoes, green beans.
Thursday- Chicken noodle soup (using leftovers from tonight)
Friday- Leftover soup with chicken salad sandwiches

I am leaving for Disney on Tuesday so the following week is all on dh/dd! I will be back to rejoin the thread after my trip! :wave2:

Back at it for 2014! Happy New Year everyone!!

Wednesday: Oven fried pork chops, oven baked fries, fresh pineapple, green beans

Thursday: Spaghetti and salad

Friday: Not sure yet. I realized I don't really have anything planned.

Saturday: DD and I will be going to a mother/daughter dinner/mixer at a classmates house. DH is on his own.

Sunday: Stuffed cabbage

Monday: Crockpot Italian Chicken over whole wheat pasta

Tuesday: Tacos and corn

Wednesday: Ham and cheese omelets with fresh fruit

Can I ask you where you do your shopping?

Sure!

We do most of our shopping at Wal-Mart. I will occasionally hop into Bottom Dollar or Giant Eagle if there's a good sale there. Our meat comes from our local family-run butcher shop, Miller's Meats.

Sent from my iPad using the DISBoards app.

Wed - turkey and all the trimmings

thurs - leftover chili, rice and cornbread
fri- turkey soup
sat - dh's birthday probably going to his parents
sun - lasagna
mon - ham, broccoli, mashed taters

See, I need to do better at doing things like that. Using what I have and not wasting anything.

My biggest issue is that I am on a restricted diet due to a medical condition. There are a number of things I am not allowed to eat. This means that I end up spending more in general because I end up shopping at places like Earth Fare and Fresh Market since the ingredient lists are shorter (and easier to read) and the products do not have as many preservatives and fillers (many of which can make me ill). One of my goals in the next couple of weeks is to clean out the cabinets of "unsafe" foods to see what I really have... and then eat out of there. Add in the fact that I will be auctioning off the house I am living in (it was my mom's) come spring and it is something that HAS to be done.

I live in Canada (near Toronto) and I have been budgeting $600 a month for our groceries which includes food, toiletries and cleaning supplies. We moved from British Columbia in the summer so we had nothing in the way of stored food when we moved into this house at the end of July.

However, we have been stocking up on sale items for several months now and currently have a three to six month supply of food stashed between the fridge, fridge freezer, deep freeze and pantry. My goal is to increase this to a year's supply of shelf stable food and to fill our 7 cubic foot freezer to the bursting point.

Last week, DH and I decided to get a freezer pack from a nearby butcher shop and for $150 we got 2 lbs of bacon, 10 lbs of lean ground beef, 13 chicken legs (not sure of the weight) , 8 x 8oz pork schnitzels, 8 x 8 oz center cut pork chops, 8 x 8 oz eye of round steaks, 6 large pork souvlakis, a 5 lb sirloin tip roast, and a rack of pork back ribs. All of this is high quality, local, organically-fed meat.

We will probably do this every three or four months, so going forward, I feel like I can spend only $500 a month and then the full $600 on the months where we get this freezer filler.

I go where the sales are, but primarily stick to No Frills and Walmart for my weekly shopping trips.

I dunno how far my menu plan went when I last updated but here is what I have in the works:

Tonight: homemade broccoli cheddar soup (campbell's cream of mushroom for the fusspots!) and grilled cheese sammies with veggies and dip
Friday: lasagna and salad
Saturday: ribs, mashed potatoes and green beans
Sun: leftovers
Mon: beef tacos or taco salad
Tues: buffalo chicken wraps, carrot and celery sticks
Wed: meatballs in gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans
Thurs: pasta alfredo, spaghetti squash
Fri: pizza and salad
Sat: chicken nuggets and tator tots with salad

Newbie here - joining in.
I am still on vacation - so I don't really want to plan meals just yet. Planning on starting on Monday though!
I'm in a produce co-op and we get one on Saturday. That usually helps me plan my meals.

Love reading the thread!1

Well we're back at it. I hadn't done a proper grocery shop in probably 7 or 8 weeks. We used up what we had in the freezer and pantry the month before our Disney trip, and only bought perishables as needed. Then we came home just in time for the holidays and did a small shop and had many of our meals at other peoples houses. And then I got the stomach flu for Christmas eve/day/and the day after:headache:. So I wasn't eating or cooking and the family was fending for themselves.
When we finally did shop it was $400:scared1:. However that included dog food, cat food, a tank of gas, restocking things like toilet paper and kleenex and cleaning supplies etc.
The freezer is full, the chest freezer is looking good, and the cupboards are stocked. I should have zero reason to shop for the next two weeks at least, except for a few fruits and veggies and milk. I even froze loaves of bread.

Tonight was leftover lasagna and garlic bread

Friday.. A small ham, some type of potatoes and a veggie tray with dip

That's the total plan so far. I will update the rest of the menu tomorrow when I'm not so tired and sit down to make it.:)
