Hello, first time to this board, normally hang out at DVC board. Here's my question: Which Disneyland resort hotel is now called-or was called, the Pacific ? And as a follow up, which would I prefer;the Disneyland resort hotel or the Pacific ? It will just be me and DW. First time to DL. Thanks for the help.

The hotel to which you are referring is now the PARADISE PIER Hotel. I personally much prefer the Disneyland Hotel (and the Grand Californian even more) to the PP Hotel. If you're choosing between just the two hotels, choose the Disneyland Hotel. :)

And WELCOME to the Disneyland Board! :)

Paradise Pier Hotel used to be called the Disneyland Pacific Hotel.
Which hotel you prefer depends on what you are looking for. The Paradise Pier hotel is the least "Disney" of the hotels. The room decore has mickey in it but the style is more adult and "masculine" as my sister put it. The rooms are standard size and the hotel is two towers and virtually no grounds around it. The pool is unthemed and on the roof of the parking garage. It was a quiet hotel.
The Disneyland hotel is older and is made up of 3 towers but the rooms are much bigger, slightly more Disneland Fantasy oriented as far as decore goes, and the grounds are extensive. It seems busier here. There is a quiet "Beach" pool in the back area and the Neverland Pool in the middle of the square.
The Grand Californian is great but you didn't ask so I won't go into it. :)

Chance's are I'll be winning a GM trip to DL. The resort options list are the two I asked about. If upgrading at my own expense to the Cal resort is an option, would it be worth it ?

I really enjoy staying at the Disneyland Hotel but the Grand Californian was very nice, much more like the deluxe hotels at WDW. The rooms are smaller than the Disneyland Hotel, about the same as the Wilderness Lodge. The location is excellent. Only you can determine if it is worth it though. I loved the GC but can not afford to stay there very often. :(
