Do all of the Eastern ports take American currency or will be have to have some money exchanged to their currency? I am not big fan of using my CC in these ports (afraid the number will be stolen), but if I had to is a Visa card readily accepted?

Thanks:thumbsup2

The eastern and western ports all take American currency. We have used AMEx TCs in each of the ports with no problems. This included Costa Maya.

The only exception I've seen to this was in Nassau when I bought a small piece of jewelry. While the price was quoted in US dollars, my credit card was charged in Bahamian dollars and an exchange fee applied.

Eastern and Western ports accept US dollars and credit cards with no problems (do call your credit card company in advance and tell them that you'll be out of the US). If you want to bargain on prices, you'll do better with cash. Some small shops do not accept credit cards or have a minimum.
