Hello all!

Now that all the craziness with Halloween is over, I am really getting excited about our FIRST Disney cruise on the Magic. My sons are 4 and 7. We really don't want to overbook them and just know that they aren't going to enjoy most excursions. Our plan was to catch a cab to a really great beach and veg out for the day. We were hoping for a nice hotel where we can rent some chairs and umbrellas and use their facilities.

Can anyone suggest the must see and do beaches for our E Carribean cruise?

Thanks in advance!

On St. Maarten, I would go to Great Bay beach. It's an easy trip on the water taxi from the cruise ship pier. There are chairs and umbrellas to rent, and it's adjacent to downtown Philipsburg, so there are plenty of places to grab some food and use the restrooms. The water taxi is a flat rate for the day, so you can go back and forth between the beach and the ship, if need be.

On St. Thomas, I'd say go to either Coki Beach or Magens Bay. Both have rentals and food/restrooms. Coki is next to Coral World, which might be fun for your kids. You can grab a cab at the pier to get to either of these places. You can also arrange for the driver to come get you at a specified time, if you like.

I wouldn't bother with a hotel room at either of these ports. There's really no need.

We're on the same cruise and have a son who turns 7 on 11/13, and a 1½ year old son. In St. Maarten we are doing what we did last year and taking the ferry across the water. There is a beach that was just fine for our purposes. I believe we paid $10 for two lounge chairs, and there was a bar nearby to grab drinks. The ferry was very inexpensive and you can go back and forth as many times as you'd like during the day.

In St. Thomas, we are taking a taxi to a nearby hotel that has given us a day pass (my husband is in a travel related industry and this is one of the perks). A close friend lived on Peter Island (right near St. Thomas) and made some great recommendations for the type of laid back day we're looking for.

We loved the 12 metre regetta in St. Maarten. It's a lot of fun and left plenty of time to do other things later in the day.

I'm with Lloyd and Suz in St. Maarten. Great Bay beach is real easy to get to with the water taxi. You can relax have fun return to the ship to shower and change and grab some lunch and head back into town. The beach has plenty of chairs for rent. Walk a little further down and some of the places will bring dollar drinks right to your chair if you rent from them. We rented a jet ski and I took my DS6 out with me. He loved it. We also got the water trampoline for him as well. It was a great time.

In St. Thomas we did the Atlantis Submarine tour. It left right from the dock and was only a couple hours. We saw sharks and barracuda and all sorts of fish. It was a lot of fun. We went about 80 feet down or so.

TD Mom, given the age of your kids, one day at the beach (perhaps St. Martins, given the ease of access) may be enough, while enjoying a presumably much-quieter day at the pools on St. Thomas day - this might be most relaxing and fun for your family.

See you there!
