Eastern Caribbean Devastation, Relief supplies?

I was reading where RCCL is dispatching Adventure and Majesty to St Thomas and St Martin on a humanitarian relief mission. Maybe the Eastern trips can drop off supplies and funds in lieu of swapping ports? I'm game.

I doubt that DCL would use a passenger loaded ship to stop at a port that no one can get off at.

Other cruiselines have more ships that they can use by moving passengers from one ship to a different one without losing much money. DCL can't really do that.

But I'm sure there are outlets for your desire to contribute.

We could stop and drop off supplies.... Disney Market Cap is a bit more than RCCL maybe just a bit ? Ok that sounds anti Disney,,, It is not. Im game to help. Which my wife and I did for Texas, and will do same for them. Im sure Disney will to, however I'm totally game to go there and skip fun to assist. Any questions?

Im sure Disney will assist in some way. Their crew Voluntears programmes regularly goes and helps and supports the more needy in the island communities they go to.

I doubt they would obviously use the ships though. If they did, I would be shocked if they let guests get off in those ports. There's regular post on how much people dislike Nassau, Jamaica, etc because of how desperate the people are for their business, just think how much more desperate a lot of people in some ports are going to be now...

If you really want to help, the best way would be to use an organisation that is designed and set up to help in better ways, they know where and how to go in, who to contact, and exactly what is needed to help to make the best difference possible.

Disney contributes to relief efforts regularly. Typically, we don't hear about it publicly.

Especially in a place where the company does business (St. Maarten) they will do quite a bit.

Putting cruise ship passengers into a devestated area, however, is never going to happen.

You should contact DCL directly with your ideas.

Just thought of posting this here for any historical knowledge. Of course we won't be docking at the "normal" ports, but I'm imagining a lot of the islands will still be in cleanup mode of some sort...has Disney ever set up "excursions" for volunteer opportunities after a hurricane?

Some friends of mine went on a cruise to somewhere around the Panama Canal area. At one of their stops, they did an "excursion" which was helping out at a local relief center. I can't remember now which one it was, but they said even the kids enjoyed the chance to 'give back'. I don't know if it was organized as an excursion on the ship or if they found out about it themselves, though. I think they were on an NCL cruise.

Anyway, that's an interesting idea for once services become more normalized.

I think the issue here is that right now, in the VI, there is raw sewage and rodents running around on Tortola. There is no transport for a posse of soft tourists to help. St. Thomas is not much better.

Disney is not going to take on that responsibility, and, frankly, the Marines/Coast Guard/FEMA on St. Thomas, and British Navy & affiliated on Tortola don't have the time or tasks for people (let alone children!) in Mickey shirts who aren't going to want to get splinters or deal with poo.

While no specific requests for donations has been made here (only comments saying people would like to help), I'll just point out that such charitable concerns need to be cleared before posting. Per the guidelines:
3. POSTS REQUESTING "DONATIONS"
From time to time our members ask to post information about a fund raiser or other support event for charity. If you are participating in or wish to promote a charitable event, please email the webmaster at corey@disneyinfo.com for permission first. We only allow posts that are in support of registered non-profit organizations and donations must be made directly to the organization in question via the internet. No requests for cash, money orders, checks or items to an individual, or personal address will be permitted. All such requests must be approved by the webmaster PRIOR to being posted. We're sorry, but requests for school/sports fund raisers are not permitted.

Tortola got creamed and I've been following their relief efforts - if anyone is interested in donating, there is a list of charitable organizations that you may donate to, the list provides detail around the fund and what the money is being put towards. www.bvirelief.com

(admins if this is against guidelines feel free to delete)

Near as I can tell, St. Thomas/St. John isn't in much better shape, they're just getting ignored in favor of the Keys. A lot of people ignore places like USVI, PR and Guam as "American." (They are!)
