Eastern Caribbean Devastation, Relief supplies?

I was reading where RCCL is dispatching Adventure and Majesty to St Thomas and St Martin on a humanitarian relief mission. Maybe the Eastern trips can drop off supplies and funds in lieu of swapping ports? I'm game.

I didn't spend $10k on a vacation to go on a mission trip. I am happy to donate to relief efforts but not by spending my vacation doing so.

Been hearing all day of different cruise lines that are assisting in humanitarian aid to hurricane victims in the Caribbean. Very disappointing that DCL is not participating. DCL is my family's favorite cruise line but we may be cruising other lines in the future.

How do you know Disney is not participating? Disney does a lot of charitable work. They just can't release one of their ships to do it. Not like other cruiselines that have many ships and can switch passengers around freeing up a ship.

BTW, Disney is committing $2.5 million to Hurricane Irma relief.

When is your flight down to assist? I would be mighty disappointed to hear of someone being so judgemental of others while just sitting in their cozy home doing nothing.

What you've been hearing all day is free advertising for other cruise lines. Just because you don't hear about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening. The fact that NCL and RCCL (or whomever) have put out press releases about how altruistic they are should say something to you, as well.

Disney have 2 ships, total, in that sector right now. Both of them have planned departures this weekend.

For all that other lines are crowing about their use of ships to help, there is actually a very limited scope of what the big ships can really do, aside from refill cisterns, drop some supplies (if they have useful supplies -- I doubt most of them shoved off with the stuff really needed right now), and help evacuate additional people.

Money is actually pretty useful in this scenario.

And I know it's not the cruise line, but the parks have been using their lots as staging areas for power crews and first responders for the people in Florida.

Please don't misunderstand. I'm not saying the islands don't need help too. But sometimes charity starts at home and Florida needs plenty of help too.
