So how are my fellow Eastern Canadians doing today? We live near Trenton ON. So far we've chipped over a cm. of ice from the driveway and DH's truck (not that we're crazy enough to drive anywhere today!!). The lights have been flickering for the last hour or so with increasing frequency, so I'm expecting to lose power sometime this afternoon. Thank heavens for the fireplace and a fully charged Kobo reader.

DD says they had quite a dump of snow in Ottawa, with more forecast. But so far they've escaped the ice.

I wonder which will thaw first- the turkey that I just took out of the freezer last night or the ice on the trees in the back yard. Stay warm folks.

We did have a dump yesterday with some freezing rain overnight and now again as I write. We're expecting more snow overnight into tomorrow.Surprisingly, our main are a bit slushy but overall fine to drive.

Well, hello, neighbour :wave2: . We're in Belleville.

Thankfully, no power flickering yet.....but we've been expecting it. I have spent the day getting laundry (and other things that require hydro) caught up in the event that we spend tomorrow in the dark. Are they still saying the worst is yet to come?

I am fully anticipating losing a few major limbs off the trees in the backyard. Some of them are bent so far over, they are literally inches from the ground :crazy2: .

My heart goes out to those who had plans to travel this weekend to friends and family for Christmas festivities.

.

Just watched the weather report on TV. Yes the worst is yet to come. They're saying up to 30 mm of freezing rain/ice accretion between now and tomorrow afternoon. Yikes. What's worse is the forecast for increasing wind tonight- up to 50 km/h.

I've just put the last load in the washer. Got the flashlights and candles ready. And we've got a gas stove, so i can still cook if the power does go out.

DH braved the walk to Sobeys this afternoon. It's only 3 blocks away but it took him an hour longer than usual because of the icy conditions. I've heard that it's even worse around Kingston- they've had power outages there already.

I'm here in Kingston!! So far, (fingers crossed), so good for us, BUT there are many people across the city that have lost power. I have been cleaning like a mad woman all day. Our power keeps flickering, but so far so good. We have gotten SLAMED, and I just want it to stop! :scared: I don't even want to think about cleaning off the truck, uug!!

My brother drove from Ohio today and they are in Toronto right now, thank goodness!! I didn't even realize he was going to come because of the storm! Thank goodness they are safe!:littleangel:

Were down in Niagara. It has been pouring all day. You can feel the temperature dropping within the past hour or so.
All the ditches are at their brim with water on the country roads.
Were still expecting 40 mm of freezing rain by tomorrow afternoon.

We're charging up all the digital entertainment devices.
I usually have the thermostat down in the 60's at night but I think tonight I'll keep it in the 70's to get some warmth in here just in case we lose power.

The generator is gas'd up incase we need to for an emergency or to keep the fridge going if the power goes out for any length of time.

For us the bad weather is support to start at about 10 pm-ish!

Stay safe & warm everyone!!

I fly through Newark on Dec 24th with a 45 minute connection. I have a feeling that I maybe staying in Jersey for Christmas .....

We are staying in a hotel in Niagara. We just walked down Clifton Hill and went for a drive by the falls. It's not slippery yet but it sure is a miserable night.

I was just reading the statuses of some friends on Facebook (all whom live in the Kingston region) and many are in the dark and starting to get rather cold. Apparently there are 16,000 homes affected right now. Fingers crossed your power hangs in there!!

Stay safe and warm everyone.
Our power has gone out twice ,we are in Mississauga.
Back on for now.
Our poor trees are so low to the ground.
Hugs Mel

The power went off and on again,I stepped outside to salt the walk way again and just heard trees falling down in the forest we back onto.
On boy it's going to be a long night here.
Hugs Mel

45 minute connection in Newark is just about impossible in itself .I hope your connection is in the same terminal .GOOD LUCK!:)

Ah so sad
the Lorax is crying right now, almost every few minutes another tree is falling in our tiny forest.

We are dry and safe so things could be worst.
We moved my sons car as a tree just missed hitting it when the top half of the tree broke off.

Live in Kingston!

We have had this crap for three days and I want it done :( we lost power last night at 9 and still don't have it, they are estimating 9pm tonight, but that is the latest, this morning it was noon. Hope others are fairing well and for all of those driving in the next few days, I wish you safe travels!!!

Still ice raining here (on top of the snow we got last night), but I think its slowing.

These pics are from 8 am this morning:

If you can get to Newark from the east coast you will be fine once you are there. :)

It's 20C at Newark NJ right now. Yes.. 20C.

Talk about Mother Nature having a split personality... lol.

I'm in Pickering ON.. we got slammed with yesterday's ice storm. There's been no power at my home for over 13 hours so far. *shiver*
Hydro is saying they don't know when to expect it to be restored. They also mentioned the possibility of 72 hours. Which would put it at Christmas Eve overnight... :'(

Are you still there? How is it?

A family member is off to Australia via Buffalo today. I told her to go yesterday morning and stay over but NOPE. Hopefully, she gets through fine.

Yikes! I live in Pickering too and I was wondering about the situation there. We are supposed to go home tomorrow, but maybe we'll stay an extra day. I don't want to go home to a freezing house. :scared1:
