Eastern Canada Ice Storm

The power that was restored to us late Monday afternoon...

Went down again at 11:15 this morning. :(

No word from Veridian as to why - or when it might come back. It is affecting N Ajax & E Pickering from what I'm seeing on twitter.

Fingers crossed....

again. :/

Ugh! Thanks for the heads up! I'm away and I just sent my poor dad over to my house to get warm. Now I will email my neighbors to see if we are out again.

I'm at Brock & Finch.. still out. 5 hours & counting - round 2.
Fingers crossed your area is still warm & bright :)

Apparently we never lost power (Whites and Finch area). Hopefully you'll get power back soon! :goodvibes

That's awesome! Ours ended up being down for 7 and a half hours. It came back at around 6:35ish.. Everything is recharging right now & I'm hopeful that we can hang on, at least overnight!

It must be a Halton thing Alohamom, we just got our power back on last night around 7 (right after Mass, good timing, eh?) and my MIL up the road still has no power. Both of us rural Halton (Terra Cotta) only I'm lucky enough to live right on the main road where as she lives on a sideroad and her power is contracted out from Caledon.

I pray your power comes back on soon. They say possibly Saturday or Sunday for my MIL, I hope yours happens sooner than that.

That is so sweet of you-thanks! The power is till not on but I now have hope as one of the more travelled road just north of us now has power. The website update is estimating for us to be "re-energized" by the weekend-fingers and toes crossed!:yay:

Our power went out on Sat. Dec. 21 at 11pm. Our power was restored on Wed. Dec. 25 at 11pm. My in-laws are in Pickering and at this hour are still without power.

Hope they are okay. The cold really seeps into your bones after awhile. Even after the heat comes back on, it's hard to feel warm again.

Will keep your inlaws in my thoughts for a some real progress in their area. They must be so stressed & frustrated. I was out for 42 hours (Sunday 1am to early evening Monday) And again unexpectedly today from 11am to 6:30pm.

Veridian workers have been so good in tough circumstances. But the company to public communication/public relations have been about the worst I've ever seen.

Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts and words. My in-laws got their power back late last night. No one ever expected it to be out so long. The last week has just been a blur.

My dad got his power back late Saturday night as well. Almost a week. Crazy long.

Oh. My. Goodness. :faint:

I can't imagine. This will certainly be a "Christmas to remember" for those affected....but not in the way you want it to be :( .

Just returned from our Christmas rounds with Toronto family. Mostly in the core area, (Mount Pleasant south of Eglinton) and did they take a beating! The trees and branches down are incredible, days later many roads are still difficult to pass. DFIL was without power from Sunday to mid-day Friday. DSFIL (?step-father-in-law; is that an acceptable shorthand?) had power through most of it, but significant damage to their car when a branch came down. Same branch took out neighbor's power, still not restored by Saturday, and will be a while before they get around to hooking up individual residences like his. They are sharing an extension cord across the fence for a bit of light.

The scariest part for us was the drive down. Thawing had started and the transport trucks were shedding ice off their trailers like crazy. Took one chunk the size of a baseball directly to the windshield, right at DW's face (luckily no damage, except for the racing pulses). Cars were veering left and right trying to avoid all the flying ice, and this was going on constantly for the last couple of hours of the drive down. Very white knuckle trip! :drive:

Most surprising was traffic lights still out at Eglinton/Don Mills. That's a very large intersection to not have any lights; 2 police officers on duty directing traffic; looked like Toronto Hydro was finally working on it late Saturday when we passed through last time.

Glad to be back in Ottawa where it only amounted to a good dump of snow.

Yikes! :scared1: Driving in bad weather is always a nightmare to me. Glad you made it home safely. :)

We lost power Saturday December 21st at 9pm. We didn't get power back until sometime on Christmas Day. Thankfully I had a friend/co-worker who didn't lose power at all and he let us both stay with him and his GF from Sunday night to Tuesday-then we went up north for Christmas. It sucked BIG TIME! We are in Scarborough, and my friend lives in Ajax. Trees were down everywhere in our neighbourhood.

I'm glad you had someone to stay with. :) Scarborough really suffered. As of yesterday there were still a hundred or so houses without power. :(
