What goes on in Disney on Easter Sunday?
I have Epcot penciled in on this day and wondering if i should rub this out and stay at the Villa an avoid the parks altogether this day.

Dont know what to do any info would be great.

We were in WDW at Easter in 2004 and we started the day wish a character breakfast at the Yacht Club . Outside the hotel, the grass was covered in candy and the Easter Bunny came along and gave all the kids little bags to collect the sweet in. This lasted about 15 minutes.

We later went to Epcot but it was sooooooo busy we gave up and went back to our villa.

I am not sure if there is any special parades or anything like that but I am sure someone will know.

I don't think that Easter Sunday itself is any more crowded than all the other days surrounding the holiday. Thank God, Easter still hasn't been hit by hyper-commercialism, and remains much more of a religious holiday in the US (as compared to Christmas that is).

But the day is exceptionally crowded. But that's because that whole time period is terribly crowded.

In other words, I wouldn't block off Easter Sunday as opposed to say the Saturday the day before (which i would think is even worse, since no one's in church on Saturday).

We will also be at WDw for easter this year and thought about using the easter sat/sun t maybe drive to clearwater or st petes, or does the coast get busy at this time to??? How much time do the Americans get of from work over the easter period - is the place likely to be mad busy for the whole week?

Hi burt,

I can't comment on Easter but we were in Clearwater Beach for Labour Day ( a bank holiday) in 2002 and the queues were unbelieveable!

As the beach is on a barrier island there you have to go across a causeway to reach it and the cars backed up across the causeway were a mile or even two long. The other problem was the parking on the Clearwater beach itself (or lack of parking). As we were at a hotel we could park in their carpark but they were actively towing anyone and everyone without a hotel parking permit.

Just a thought - but would it be worth picking up a cheap hotel deal on something like Priceline.com for the night? Then you could travel up the night before, have a parking space ;) and spend the day there.

ETA - I really loved the beach at Clearwater!

We were in MK on Easter Sunday 2004 and later heard on the news that they had closed the gates at 1pm. We were surprised as although it was busier than the previous weekend we hadn't thought it was that busy!
The only special things that they seemed to do in MK was that Mr and Mrs Easter Bunny led the parade and could be seen on Main Street, and there was a special Easter Sunday buffet at Crystal Palace that we went to. How that differed from their normal fare I couldn't say as that is the only time we went there. It was very nice though!

Just another thing, slightly off subject which I apologise for..we flew back Easter Sunday last year and all the malls except Festival Bay were closed for the day, certainly Florida Mall and Mall At Millenia were.

We generally spend a couple of hours at a mall before our flight home, not sure about Premium Outlets.
Just in case you were thinking of going shopping instead.

Went for easter last two years in a row, and survived. It is definitely the most crowded time of the year, but with that in mind you can do it. We chose Epcot last year for easter sunday. They had a lovely easter egg hunt that my children loved. I would avoid the ones at the hotels and get to the park early. Despite the crowd, we really did everything we wanted. Anoterh posability is to go east to the beaches which are probably less crowded. We went to Cocoa beach, and I think on easter sunday two years ago. We came back and came to the parks.

It's a few years since we were there over the Esater w/end but, at that time, there were egg hunts in most (if not all) of the resorts, as well as the Easter Parade in MK.

Like Ware Bears, we were told MK had closed its gates later in the day because it was full. However, we knew it was going to be busy, planned our day to do just a couple of things (it was DDs 8th birthday, so she got to call the shots! ;) ) and then just take whatever came our way. We were staying on site with length of stay passes, and made full use of EMH, which certainly helped.

If you have limited park days, and don't especially want to see the parade, this might be a good day to see what's happening elsewhere instead but, as disneyholic says, most of the Easter period will be busy too.

must be fate I spoke to my DIL yesterday and she said that we needed to plan something for Easter Sunday we are there 3 - 22 April and I was going to check things out today the idea of a character breakfast sounds fun especially if they have a candy/egg hunt for the little ones we have 2 aged 6 and 2. Do all the resorts have special Easter themes...... we have booked the Princess breakfast and the CP dinner but would quite like a resort character meal as well......doesn't have to be breakfast but an Easter theme would be nice

the other character meals are booked for other days earlier on in the holiday...

I must admit I don;t know if all the resorts have a special Easter theme or not .... anyone else know?

This is one to ask disney about, I'm sure you can contact them easily by e-mail. At some point during our stay, we received a notice with everything that was going on at the parks and resorts. Most of it was easter egg hunts, I'm not sure what you mean by a "theme" do you mean decorations and easter bunnies? anyway, they must make this list ahead of time and there were quite a few events.

thankyou travelbug I rang disney dining reservations and the lady there told me that they are doing an Easter Sunday brunch at Chef Mickey's in the Contempory Resort so I booked that......

she said that it would have Easter themes so I am assumimg Bunnies........eggs etc. (I don't want to offend anyone I know that there is a deeper meaning to Easter) but I am looking for something for the children and this is a character meal with classic Disney characters MIckey, Minnie etc...

We did the Easter Sunday Brunch last year. Its not particularly Easter themed - I think they just do it to cope with the crowds rather than separating breakfast and lunch (i.e. they can just work right through). The food was OK, but it was VERY crowded and not very relaxing - it was our last day so we had travel docs etc. as well as camera and video and did not feel we could leave stuff on the table, so we had to go up to the buffet in shifts. The boys enjoyed the napkin waving, but we weren't offered the group photo and Goofy and Minnie didn't come to us (Minnie nearly came but was whisked away to wave napkins). The rest of the day we resort hopped (partly to use the monorail) and MK looked crazy busy.
They did put souvenir Easter cuddly toys in the shops (e.g. Eyore with bunny ears) a few days before, and also the parks had "Spring Break" souvenir mugs like the refillable mugs.

I would make it a rest day.
