Easter baskets?

I was raised old school in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Everything in my basket was edible. No toys for me for Easter back in the day. And the baskets stopped by high school. We just partook of the candy my family bought (minus the baskets) but we still dyed eggs until we left home.

It was the same for me. Only candy in the Easter basket, never toys or other small gifts. Easter just wasn't a gift giving occasion for us. I think the basket stopped when I reached junior high. My grandparents never gave out Easter baskets, they would just have a communal bowl of jelly beans or little foil wrapped chocolate eggs.

I followed the same for my daughters.

I like to decorate the house with Easter decor, however.

My little guy is 17 months. He's getting quite a bit but I love holidays.

He's getting rain boots, a wood toy, bubbles, etc.

Grandparents do buy gifts for him for holidays - even minor ones but that's just how we are!

I also buy a Easter gift for my goddaughters baby- I bought her one of those little tykes cars the kids sit in with the big handle the parents push them with. My neighbors son I give a little basket with candy in it.

DGS is only 20months so he doesn't get a lot of candy. Last year I got him Orioles Baseball stuff and baby snacks. This year I got him Disney clothes, personalized mouse ears, Mickey Mouse slip on tennis shoes, light up sandals, and a few pieces of candy ( a stick of peeps, chocolate covered marshmallow bunny and a chocolate egg with Mickey and Minnie on it).

We are heading to Disney in May which is why he got a lot of Disney stuff. Also, I don't want to start a tradition of a lot of candy on holidays. I'd rather get him clothes and toys.

No seriously I was the 18 year old freshman in college who asked for Hy-Vee (grocery store) gift cards for birthday or Christmas. In fairness I preferred gift cards at that point for years. That gift card was one of the best gifts you could give me. Now in the literal sense no my mom didn't buy me a comb and a bag of lettuce but hey with that grocery gift card I could have done that

What a weirdo. Anyway, I got the blender, it made many a milkshakes, and yes, I still have it!!

When my oldest hit about 17 I started buying her things for her eventual home on holidays and birthdays. Last Easter her basket was a decorative bathroom garbage can. I made a whole bathroom set up, towels, rug, shower curtain/rings, soap dispenser and toothbrush holder. Some might think it’s weird but she has her own money and buys what she wants so I have to get creative with gifts.
