I just received the last of the Easter basket stuff for the kids today and I'm happy that errand is almost complete and it made me wonder - what do/did you put in your kids Easter baskets?

Also, grandparents, do you get your grandkids Valentines and Easter presents? My mom and MIL both got them Valentine's presents/treats and I know my mom is working on baskets, I'm sure my MIL is too. Do most people do this?

EVERYONE buys DS something for almost every holiday (not Valentines). It’s kinda a problem lol! DS is very young, but we will put some candy & he’ll get a few small toys. His bday is a week later this yr so we will scale it back.

I get my kids little treats for most holidays!

I LOVE to put together Easter baskets and stockings. They always get books, trinkets, and candies. They always get a PEZ dispenser and Tootsie Roll bank. Everything else is just random stuff I find around that time, like this year they have a Pop Funko...

As a grandmom to one 2 year old, I sent her a Valentine's card but that was all. They are coming over for Easter so I have a plastic bucket type basket. I bought sidewalk chalk, bubbles, stickers, a package of little crackers. We'll have a little egg hunt with some candy in the eggs. To me, Easter is more of a religious holiday than gift giving. Just little things.

We do for the grandkids. Scaled back so not to overshadow the parents. Usually stuff besides candy. Small toys books etc.. We also have an Easter egg hunt with the plastic eggs filled with candy or coins.

We always had baskets when our kids were growing up. The contents evolved from candy to other items as they got older. We also hid their baskets and gave them each a set of clues (written by the Easter bunny of course). Sort of a treasure hunt. My oldest is continuing the tradition. The hunt was more fun to them than the actual basket.

I just bought Easter candy for the kids, plus I’ll get some gift cards for their baskets. I bought dye for them to do the eggs, which will be hidden in the yard on Easter for them to find (usually Easter morning, but dd18 if flying back Easter afternoon from a dance competition). My kids range in age from 16 - 22, three are legal adults !

I was raised old school in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Everything in my basket was edible. No toys for me for Easter back in the day. And the baskets stopped by high school. We just partook of the candy my family bought (minus the baskets) but we still dyed eggs until we left home.

The girl had her birthday this weekend and of course, the boy got some presents too. The kids are way too spoiled. My mom says kids aren't spoiled they are "well loved."

Baskets for adult kids and grand kids. (brought by the Easter bunny)
and yes we do Valentines too. It is special in my family since it was my mother's birthday, so I get them all something small.
Baskets have candy, and small toys for he kids, other useful things for the adults.
And then I hide filled Easter eggs for the grand kids for a hunt on Easter morning.

Yes, I do baskets for the grandkids.....
So does great grandma.....yes, well loved!

I have really enjoyed putting together Valentine/Easter/bday so much than anything around Xmas. I find it so overwhelming; these smaller holidays I think are going to be my jam. These smaller holidays seem so much more fun and so much less obligation I can actually really enjoy it. We had a smaller birthday celebration for the girl this year and that too was just so much more fun and enjoyable. It was more expensive, but altogether a way better experience.

Easter was more about Sunday service and dinner with family than anything else, but we would do an egg hunt in the morning.

The baskets contained:

  • Chocolate bunnies
  • Jelly beans (Just Born spice Jelly Beans only, thank you)
  • Reese's Peanut butter cup minnies
  • Other various candies
  • Fake grass
  • And when the kids started getting older, a video game or a DVD or something.

After Valentine's/St. Patrick's day I didn't trust myself to go past that Target aisle with all the little holiday treats again so I did almost all of mine online. That's how much I love having a reason to get the kids treats and my DH is definitely not a help.

ETA: DH is not a help at slowing me down with buying the kids stuff anytime: "put it in the cart" is his answer and if he runs to Walmart or something, I'm getting flowers and usually he'll find something the kids "need."

Dd20 just gets a couple things of candy.

Dgd3: Yes, I get her things for holidays. I have to start putting her basket together. Yea, she is 'well loved" lol.

We do a chocolate egg hunt after church and the kids get bags filled with little things. This year:

Archie comics/travel magazine for older dd
Silly puddy
Sidewalk chalk
Jujubes themed to Easter
Big kinder egg
Easter Oreos

I happily do not give out Easter Baskets anymore. My kids are all older and its really my least favorite holiday (and I am not religious in the least) so I am done. I do give a bit of good chocolate to my youngest who is still at home so he doesn't totally feel neglected. But when I did give baskets, it was usually mostly candy and little things like a silly putty and a set of pokemon cards.

My kids are spoiled but they’re not brats, kwim?

Grandparents never did the small holidays and now they no longer do Christmas/Birthdays. They always did for the older kids (there’s 12 and 10 years from my nephew/oldest DD and my younger two) so sometimes I think I’m trying to make up for that.

For Easter I usually choose a theme. This year the “baskets” are Loungefly Disney Backpacks. What goes in them varies year to year but the standards are:

DVD/Blu-ray of a favorite movie
A book and/or color book and crayons/pencils/markers
Lip Smackers (my stepmom always put these in ours)
M&Ms (something my dad always gave us on holidays)
Sunglasses
Keychain or Lanyard
Pins or stickers
iTunes gift card

When they were smaller there were things like chalk, bubbles, jump ropes, frisbee, kite, a new soccer ball. Spring type stuff that I’d be buying anyway for the season. Eggs filled with candy.

I don't have kids, but I think Easter candy is the best candy! Also grew up Catholic and the week before Easter was like torture with the multiple holy days. I definitely deserved that candy by the time Easter day came. I also got other little stuff like a jump rope, lip smackers and bubbles.

I try not to go too crazy with too much high value stuff in the baskets... there's three of them and that could get too crazy too fast (have you seen the latest Target commercial with the freaking Nintendo Switch in the Easter basket? Hey kids, here's your $350 Easter basket...). But some examples of various things we've done over the years...

- Specialty chocolates (we usually get a Cross or maybe an egg)
- Small candies like jelly beans, those jelly raspberry/blackberry things, etc
- Small toy
- Arts and craft supplies -- special paper, new markers, gel pens, crayons, glitter glue, stickers, etc
- Nail polish
- Chapstick/Lip Gloss
- Gum
- Hair Ties / Bows
- Book
- Sunglasses
- Pokemon Cards (or other trading cards)
- T-Shirt to celebrate the incoming warmer weather!
- Sandals/Crocs

It's always easier for me to think of small stuff for the girls (both for their Easter baskets as well as Christmas stockings) than it is for my boy at their current ages.

My husband's mom does a 'family basket' -- she has 4 children, 9 grandchildren, so it would be a lot of baskets otherwise. So she has a basket for each family with everyone's photos on it, and puts candies and other small items (gum, mints, etc) for each person in the family (mom, dad and kids). I'm an only child so my kids are my parents' only grandchildren, and my mom's kind of a big shopper, so she usually gets them more for Easter, a few toys, candy, and any kind of clothing or shoes that I tell her the kids will need for the summer.
