I thought I would start this thread in the effort to help fill all the childrens easter baskets for free or cheap!

We don't go crazy on easter baskets, but will watch the thread.....hopefully there will be some older kid ideas!

I tried to buy as much candy that didn't have a "holiday" look to it as possibe.

I do this every year at Halloween for the Christmas candy, we do large bags full of candy, nuts and fruit for everyone (family tradition 4 generations old). I get great deals, usually 75% off and none of it has the halloween wrap.

I bought sunglasses for .99 last year in January at Old Navy for Easter baskets. I'm starting my watch now!!

I bought so much at Christmas because of good deals - I pulled part of it out for Easter basket and his birthday. I even have a small gift for Valentines day. I am set except his chocolate Easter bunny or a cross.

Target's Dollar Spot had items that can be used for little kid easter baskets-books/crayons/mini dry erase boards and dry erase pens. I love the dollar section because they always have something you need.

This is something I did for Christmas and will probably do again for Easter. I got my DD a bunch of used books from Paperbackswap. My DD really didn't care that the books were used. She was just happy to have those particular books.

I may also order some stuff from Artscow to put into her Easter basket. She has 2 pet budgies that she loves so I'm probably going to put their photos on some of the Artscow stuff (as I see them go on sale) Easter is going to be late this year so I figure there's enough time for the stuff to arrive from Hong Kong as long as I order them in the next month or so.

I put treats in the basket that the boys get every few weeks anyway. My oldest loves Mickey Mouse fruit snacks. He will get a box of those in his basket. My youngest will get some animal crackers.

They will also get a movie. I will have to buy it for DMC anyway.

I posted this on another thread but will post again.

Target has the Disney Crayola Color-Wonder Mini pads (15 pages) and markers (3) on sale for $0.49, regularly $4.99. Only the Tiana and Toy Story ones are marked down.

I found some in the Christmas section and some in the toy/Crayola/stationary section.

The Tink and Cars versions were full price, so double-check before purchasing...there is NO sale sign or anything.

I usually get some spring/summer toys from The Dollar Tree, too. Things like kites, sunglasses, sidewalk chalk, etc.

What a great idea to get started on Easter basket now. Every year, I start shopping for Easter basket close to easter, and ended up spending more than I'd like.

I think tomorrow CVS will have a bag of recees and something else free ( purchase and get amount back in ECB's limit one per card) but you can only choose one. If bought now how would you store till Easter (freeze or what)?

I don't recommend storing candy in the freezer if you have a DH. :sad2: Don't forget the after Valentine's sales. There will be lots of pink candies(m&m's etc) that look perfect in those baskets and small toys.

The time for shopping was REALLY the day after Easter last year! ;)
