Easter 2013 - Booked :)

Thanks everyone, lots to read. Will look at your trip report Joh, I had no idea you had been down that way.

Were those direct flights from London, Wayne? I have been looking at Easter next year but can't find anything under £1000 and I am fed up going indirect as we already have a flight to London before that so at this rate I think we might skip it.

Indirect from MAN, far easier for us to do that than the 3+ hour drive to London (coming home is worst bit, 3+ hour drive and jetlag, not a good combo). VA only fly into MCO direct from MAN, 1st -15th they want £1,215pp in economy, all 3 of us going indirect for not much more.

Are you organising a meet???

Not thought about it yet, Luke wants to meet up but I will wait until after we return in Nov before I plan April.:goodvibes

A meet would be cool, although if you're not staying at OKW where on earth would we have it :lmao:

Easter flights are ridiculous, we had to fly direct and in school holidays so were stuck basically with virgin. Although the flights I booked (which were not cheap anyway) have now gone up to costing £5200 for 2 adults and 1 infant. Glad we bit the bullet and got them when we did!!

We have enjoyed having meets at Capt Cooks before but it could be DTD, in a park, anywhere we don't mind.

You are a well paid teacher though, you can afford these prices. :rotfl2:

And back to work tomorrow :(
I know I've been luckier than most having such time off at this point in his life but I'm gonna miss spending all the time with my son :(

Your home first - I'll let you organise it plus you have had much more practice ;)

We'll have to start a DISmeet thread nearer to see how many are going/where people are staying/can get to :)

Hi Wayne, we always drive up and down the gulf coast every year as a break from Orlando and we love it. I always kid myself that we will save money not visiting theme parks and paying inflated prices for food but if you want to stay somewhere nice (maybe beach side) the accommodation is so much dearer than anything in Orlando for obvious reasons.

The Keys and Keywest are lovely but very geared to watersports and everything boaty. (I can't swim) although watching the sun set at Mallory square along with a drink in Sloppy Joes is a must also Hemmingways House. We always stay just on the Key as anything nearer the action in Keywest is expensive.

Sanibel Island is one of our favourites- totally unspoilt and laid back - the Holiday inn there is on the beach and really quaint. For good value food you are spoilt - Jerrys or the Island Cow are great. Just drive down to Captiva from here.

Siesta Key - we have visited the last two years, lively family friendly restaurants with live music, flip flop friendly! cool quartz white sand. Plenty of places to stay although many only rent for a minimum of a week. Or stay in Sarasota and drive in although in April parking will be tough...Easy drive to Busch Gardens from here also.

Been to the everglades and we were bitten to bits......

Marco Island and Naples bit more upscale - expensive boutiques and fancy food.

Great idea to do this we always look back on this part as the highlight of our trip.

We had our first dinner at Mrs Macs - just posted on Day 0 of our trip report if anyone is interested. We also had breakfast at Harriette's.

Wayne, our trip was very similar to what you have planned so you may want to read my trip reprot to get ideas of what you want to do - or avoid :rotfl:

ooh good i'll have a look now.

Best sunday brunch i've ever had was in Miami aswell - called sundays on the bay on key biscayne - great view of Miami skyline.

Can't offer you any advise Wayne but just wanted to say happy planning:thumbsup2

We are also venturing our of Disney next year in September. Cruise road trip Disney. I am on here a lot at the moment looking for advice and ideas from Port Canaveral to the keys then back up the west coast. We are not interested in Miami so straight to the keys. I love the planning and researching. Wayne this thread is good for us. Our cruise is booked but not flights yet happy planning :):)

we haveflown in and out of miami, the airport is big, but the prob is the car hire plces are in a totally different building which meant collecting 4 suitcases and then duty free and coats and grumpy kids onto a small bus, hen get to the building about 15mins away...

our experience was marred due to us being late no car of the stye we ordered was ready huge 4x4 so they "gave"us an upgrade to an suv, with no boot space.....

we also did miami on 1t trip and with 3 v small kids i was scared didnt like it
