7th October
First lie in of the holiday for me: 8am! We were showered, dressed and down for breakfast at 9:50, it finished at 10 so we just made it. Since the weather forecast had been bad for the next few days the whale watching trip we had hoped to do was cancelled that day so we tentatively rescheduled it for tomorrow (lets see how that turns out…) and decided to do another day in Boston today. We got the T to the Boston Museum of Science, another one that was included in the Citypass (you can get a bunch of add-ons to the basic ticket which we chose not to do, a good thing as there was more than enough to do without them) The museum is on three floors and full of interesting exhibits, many of which are ‘hands-on’ and me and Steve had great fun doing all the experiments… I guess it’s aimed at kids but we saw people of all ages there, I think the adults were having more fun to be honest! Definitely one of the best museums I’ve ever been to and you could certainly spend a full day there, especially with the optional ticket add-ons.
Some mad bloke was doing electricity related experiments live!
Fun with infrared!
Having a paddle
One of the Duck Tour 'ducks' in their original incarnation
Taken from the Science Museum T station
I bought a fridge magnet and a ‘rhinovirus’ (common cold) microbe plushie from the gift shop and we set off for the T again, this time we were headed to Harvard Square. Once there we walked to the university’s main campus aka the ‘yard’ which contained our next destination: The Harvard Museum of Natural History. This was included in our Citypass too, but in hindsight I think visiting the science museum on the same day taints your expectations a bit! It’s very interesting and not a bad museum by any means, just more your traditional very academic/behind glass/no touching kind of place with lots of stuffed animals, bugs and the like.
Spotted in Cambridge, random chess games are always a good thing.
After our visit we walked back across the campus (it really is pretty and has a great vibe, I bet it’s a fun place to go to university for the lucky ones who get in!) towards Palmer Street to have some late lunch/early dinner at Veggie Planet. I had the half pizza (Henry’s Lunch) and bowl of soup (squash bisque) combo with an orange juice and Steve had a Portobello Redhead pizza and a coke. I enjoyed mine but Steve said the base was burnt on his, though he wouldn’t return it for another one (men!) After our meal we went to the Harvard Store where I got a Boston fridge magnet and Steve got a Harvard T-shirt.
Mega conkers!
