I want to purchase a small contract, but I don't want my husband to know. (it's either going to be a Christmas present, or one for our Feb. anniversay.)

Because the costs will be under $4000, I would like to know the easiest way for me, and me alone, to purchase this. I don't have all of it in cash, and don't want him to know about it. I do have credit in my own name.

Is a personal loan the easiest way to go?

How long are you planning to finance for? If it's a short time, you might want to just put it on your credit card. If not directly, than perhaps as a cash advance. Again, I would not recommend this for long term financing, although you might be able to move it to a different card with a 0% introductory offer.

Just wondering, if it's a present, wouldn't you want his name on the contract as well as you? Even if you find a way to finance without him knowing, I think he'd figure it out when he had to sign the closing documents.

Well, the Time Share Store doesn't take credit cards. I don't want long-term financing, I wanted to pay it back in a year or two. I don't like keeping $3,000 aside, waiting for the perfect contract to come along. I have paid for $3,000 trips by just putting it on my card, and paying an extra $150-$300 a month for 12-18 months to pay for it. I wanted to do something similar, but again, they don't take credit cards.

Ok, I'll be honest: his present is being allowed to accompany me! :rotfl2:
