I'm was sitting here in our condo and the room started shaking. Turns out it was a 5.0 - no tsunami is expected.

Oh wow, I hope that is all there is. Are you on vacation?

My husband is here for a short term (6 month) work assignment- I'm here for fun!! The earthquake was off of Kahoolawe. Not sure exactly how far that is from here.

We arrived in early April just after the 40 day rain and sewer break. The beaches were closed for our first few days here. Then there was a Tsumani warning, then Daniel was heading this way and now the earthquake. Yesterday, 1200 hotel workers staged a contract protest in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village - our condo is across the street. I wonder what is next - we leave in October so I'm sure something else will happen.

Wow ~ a 5.0 is a nice shaker too. Wonder how far that was from you?

Boy, not anything good going on in Hawaii since you arrived huh? Maybe you'd better go home! :teeth:

Kahoolawe is the uninhabited island that you can see from Maui. I wonder if Maui felt it more. Kahoolawe was originally used by the Kingdom of Hawaii to isolate prisoners and then for grazing. It was stripped of grass, etc by cattle and then during WWII it was used as a bombing and ammunitions range. That has been closed down for several years and a multi zillion dollar effort has been made to clean it up. It will probably always be uninhabited.

:scared: especially being that it was felt in Waikiki...

Wow. I'm planning a trip there next year and I usually have the Waikiki beach webcam up, but I got busy and didn't have it up today. Wonder if I would've seen anything.

Oh jeez, we're off to Maui the first week in October. I would've been scared to death being in the middle of something like that that is totally uncontrollable.

We leave in less than two weeks. The only thing I am scared of is that something will interfere with us leaving. I can cope with a natural disaster in Paradise, but then, I would rather not.
