I intended on asking the question: Who now does the voice of Jiminy Cricket on television and at the parks? I knew that the original voice was Cliff Edwards.
Funny, that I should think of this question on Earth Day. Jiminy Cricket is the embassador for Earth Day. Disney's embassador that is. Some people say, that you can see Jiminy at the Disney parks today.
I got onto the computer and did a search on Cliff Edwards. I found some very eery facts. Cliff Edwards died on July 17, 1971. He was broke, and in a convalescent home, and no one knew who he was. They did not associate him with the Walt Disney company at all. His body lay unclaimed for days. That is the year that Walt Disney World opened. You know of course that Disneyland first opened 50 years ago on july 17th. Interesting. The voice behind the Cricket has a tie in to both U.S. parks.
So go out today and do something good for the earth.
When you are celebrating Disneyland's 50th anniversary on the 17th of July, or you hear the voice of Jiminy, think of Cliff Edwards kindly. That voice
and that song "When you wish upon a star" are magical to many.
I will think different thoughts, now after my search for the today voice of Jiminy. Maybe I don't want to know anymore. Thank you Cliff Edwards, and thank you Walt Disney for Jiminy is my hero, for the child in me.
