So, if they have earrings when they are young, they are supposed to take them out when they get older? Johnny Depp and Bruce Springsteen each have one and it certainly never bothered me. Definitely different rules for women and men - I don't get it.

There are a lot of things that come into style. That doesn't mean I have to like them. Many of the things I didn't like the first time around.

It is! I'm ok with people saying men with earrings aren't their preference. To each their own. There is a lot of judgement and assumption going on here about men's outward appearance though. If the tables were turned women would be outraged at some of the stuff being said.

An interesting fact is that young people become old people. Whatever you do now will be there always.

Not so with earrings. The seven holes in my ears have all but closed up after not wearing any for about 5 years. Tattoos, on the other hand....

Wow! I agree this is an ageist and sexist thread! First off, I don't think of someone in his sixties as an "old man". Second, what's creepy about an earring?

I try to remember that today's "old men" (and women) are not necessarily of the mindset that we expect them to be. Consider that someone who was 20 odd years old and attending Woodstock in 1969 is now 62+ years old. THAT is today's "old man." They may be pierced, enjoy their hair long, have stellar taste in music laughing, and have a more liberal view of...all kinds of things.

Not to say the big band, rocking chair crew doesn't still exist. We just need to start getting used to the idea that our old folk will be much cooler than we are traditionally used to!

(may I edit to add that I don't think early sixties is "old." I'm just addressing the OP.)

I don't know if it is regional or not but around here you see very few men wearing earrings anymore at any age and when you do see them you notice. I don't care either way but it is rare enough that it stands out and I do think it is odd but I think a lot of trends are odd (neck tattoo anyone). I'm not sure how it is creepy though.

I tend to like guys with earrings and a few *tasteful* tattoos won't hurt either.

I'm not a fan of the gauges, I can say that.

What does creep me out though, is ANY guy (no matter the age) that has enough hair product in his hair to fill an oil rig, has it all slicked back, has his shirt unbuttoned like half way with about 6-8 BIG gold chains and big clunky gold rings, with that nasty grin on his face as he's walking down the street.

Now, THAT'S creepy

Oh man. You'd hate my dad! An earring since he was 19, a ponytail since he was 20 and as of 2008, a tattoo! He's always worn a small silver hoop in his left ear, and he got a radiation trefoil tattooed when he was fighting (and beating) cancer. He's also an archaeologist and can play the hurdy gurdy. My dad is the coolest man on the face of the planet, so he can handle the haters.
