Hey guys, has anyone ever used these? I'm not prone to getting ear pain on planes but I did once and man did that hurt! So as a precaution since this is a WDW trip I've been looking forward to, I thought I might give them a whirl. Do they work?

My DD, now 17, won't fly without them. She had always had a problem with her ears when flying. She even insisted on them for her eighth grade class trip to DC. She didn't care if her friends thought she was weird because she knew she would be in pain without them.

DD (now 17) complained of terrible ear pain when flying when she was younger. I bought her these and she said they did help. You have to put them in though before the pain is going to start.....so she'd insert them upon boarding and take them out once we were at cruising altitude. Then she'd put them back in about 1/2 hour before landing...before descent started.
Kind of a pain if we had a stop or connecting flight...but they did help her.

My kids were in tears during landings without them. They don't like wearing them, but I insist.

I always wear them for takeoff and landing now, and my ears don't so much as pop when I have them in. One flight, I couldn't find them in my bag, so I didn't use them, and my ears were clogged for two days. I take them off when I'm in the air.

LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I could not fly without pain so severe it caused tears a few times. I used them for the first time on a business trip when I was travelling with 2 VPs, and did not think tears on the descent would be a 'quality carreer move'

I put them in once I am seated and settled, and for the short-ish flights to Orlando, etc, I leave them in for the entire flight.

DS does not care for them AT ALL, I'm wondering if even the kid's sized ones are still too big for him. But he also does not seem to have much pain, so he goes without.

I've used them when I've had a bad headcold, and I've had DS use them when he was younger, I do believe they help.

But simply taking a decongestant, esp. a nasal spray like Afrin, will do the trick.

:D I bought these for my ds but he hated them so I ended up using them. I get really horrible pain (usually in just one ear) and they did seem to help a lot. I still had some very mild pain but nothing compared to what I usually have. They are pretty inexpensive. I would reccomend them.

Another fan of Earplanes here!! When I was a teen and we flew to Disney World, I had such pain upon landing, it really took away from the initial excitement of the trip until the pain subsided several hours later. Now when we fly, I make sure that DSs and I all have them. DH doesn't need them, he claims, and so far he hasn't had any problems. I don't have ear pain every time I fly, but now I don't take any chances. I wear them and don't have to worry about it. :)

wow, thanks guys! I read something about them only lasting for a couple flights, or is that just way to sell more?

The package states they are only good for two round trip flights because dirt and other stuff will affect the way they work. The ones I bought were less than ten dollars (maybe $6). Another thing to consider is if you want the adult size or the kid's size. I have small ears and I wear the kid's size even though I am an adult.

My 18 year old won't fly without them. They can be a bit hard to find. They're usually a bit cheaper in Walmart than they are in the drugstores.

They do come with the caution that they're only good for two flights. We haven't tested them to see if that's true or not. It's not worth saving $6.00 only to find out that she needed a new pair.

Another devotee to Earplanes here!

As for the 2 plane ride thing...I'd say it's really more of a one round trip rule. If I'm going on a trip where I have to make a connection, so that I go on 4 flights total (2 to get there, 2 to go home), one pair of Earplanes is perfectly fine. Or if I'm flying to one place, staying there a few days, and then another place, and then going home, one pair is good.

That having been said, though, I'm so dependent one those things that I usually carry an extra pair with me, just in case. :)

I wouldn't try to use them for 2 separate trips, though, as regular house dust and any other particles can get them clogged and make them less effective.
