Earplanes...do they work?

Has anyone tried these for kids? My son, age 8, suffers terribly (like me) on the descent and landing with his ears..I bought these after trying everything else...do they work? are they painful to insert....looks like a corkscrew...Thanks so much

YES! My dd and I suffer terribly, bought earplanes through a tip on these boards. They just fit in your ears like earplugs should, not too far in, they are fantastic!

Most definitely-YES! I'll never fly without them again. I bought the kids size ones for myself as I have small ears. I think they're the best invention ever!

Thanks for the feedback...are the instructions accurate...they indicate to insert them one hour before landing....do they twist in or just fit into your ear?

Earplanes work wonders! Just hold your nose and exhale with your mouth shut while inserting them and you'll be fine (twisting while you put them in). THis helps to relieve a little bit of the pressure already in there.

I have used earplanes and find that they do work. However, be sure you do not try to use them for more than the directions state. They are not effective again and again.

I've used earplanes for DS but lately it doesn't seem to help much. I've started giving him some ibuprophen about an hour before landing and that seems to help him a bit. He gets terrible pains only on landing.

My Mother swears by them.

I can't speak by personal experience, but my mother has been in tears by landing, if she has forgotten them.

I used them for my daughter, who has had several ear infections, and had one the last time we flew. She had no problems, but I can't compare it to anything. She has never flown without them.

My mom leaves hers in the whole flight. She usually sleeps, and if she takes them out, doesn't always wake up in time to get them back in. They definately need to be back in an hour before landing. So if the flight is short, as ours is (2 hours), I leave my kids in the whole time.

I used to dread descending, but now about an hour before landing I put them in and enjoy the rest of the ride.

I never used to have problems with the pressure, but the last few times I have flown it has bothered me too. I bought earplanes for me and the kids. The only problem I have had is that sometimes the kids "play" with them and they fall out. They did help me the last time I flew.

When my 8 year old was a baby her ears were really bothering her on a flight and a mother sitting near by recommended putting cups over her ears. It sounds really weird, but it does help. I ask the flight attendants for two plastic cups and then I have her hold them over her ears. It creats some kind of suction and it helps releave the pressure. Now I combine the two.

YOu can purchase them at local drugstores or at TARGET. They can also be purchased at airport stores but are much more costly!

I seen them in Miejers (grocery) at the pharmacy for Adults and Children. They were either $3.99 or $4.99. They were with the ear plugs.

YES, YES, YES!!!! It helped me and my son-who was 5 at the time and swore he would NEVER fly again- I bought these and they really helped--I also gave a dose of sinus decongestant too!

WE bought ours at Walmart. I can't remember if we left them in or just put them back in our DD ears before landing. But they worked great.

I love these, also if you cant do that try this tip.

Wet a washcloth and put it in a baggie, keep it until you get close to landing and ask the flight attendant to put it in the microwave for about 40 seconds, it will be nice and warm and wet, hold to the ear and it will relieve the pressure, this works for me everytime!
