Early Magic Band users- how are your batteries doing?

I know I've read somewhere that the estimated battery life in a Magic Band is 2 years... and I can't remember when the roll-out started! Is anyone up to 2 years yet with a Magic Band, and how is the battery doing? Have you been able to use all the features on the band?

We'll be just over 2 years from our last trip to our next, and I'm wondering if my first band might still work, so I can have a choice of colours without the extra cost of something I won't get to use again! ;)

I haven't heard of anyone's battery dying yet. The battery only powers a portion of the MB anyway, much of it should still work indefinitely.

I have had mine for two years, was in the testing batch and it still works, although 3 different cast members have told me to de-activate it since I have 2 of each color and they tell me I have too many.

The battery powers the long range features of the band so most users might not notice when the battery goes dead. POS purchases, park entry, opening your room door will still work with a dead battery.

Would you still be able to get photos/video from 7DMT with a dead battery? That would concern me.. lol

What are the "long range features" that will stop working? Will FP still work?

The automatic linking of attraction photos/videos requires the battery powered long range transmitter.

At attractions that have their own photo display/sales location, you can manually link those to your MyDisneyPhotoPass.com account. The 7DMT does not have such a location.

Hmmmm... that's an interesting thought- there might be parts not working and we have no way of telling (until we don't get our MM photos, I guess!)

Not quite 2 years yet. We got ours nov 2013, just used them last week without a problem.

How do I know if the battery's working or not? I got my first band in September, 2013. I think that at that time they were testing them at certain resorts including AKL, where I was. I remember that they changed the door lock from the key entrance to the "swipe" entrance, and I had to wave the picture of the castle from my key card at that time.

Maybe they should quit sending multiple sets of bands to people who travel multiple times. :)

The door locks are not affected by the batteries. Any touch point (where you actually touch the band to the scanner) should work indefinitely. But I don't know how you can tell whether or not they will still scan for photos or other long-range uses without actually trying them.

My original band from July 2013 still works and still works with the long range items such as picking up photos on the rides.
