Early-Early Roll call.... 4-28-07 Eastern

Welcome Mormadsmom,

We all seem to be excited in this group for the cruise. Some of us <like myself> are first timers and others have experience. Alot of us are on deck &...which stateroom are you in? Read up, there's so much good info on these boards :)

I went to my doctor thursday, and had a prescription made for the thermapatch (behind the ear patch for motion/sea sickness) JUST IN CASE! I will be putting one on 3 hrs before ship sails. I STILL havent gotten anything for pirates night :scared: I got to get on top of things and make a list.
How about someone starting a list of *must brings* and we can all add on to it?? I'm a tterrrrrrible packer and always seem to forget things. Hope you all are doing weel :)

Cruise Veterens! Help!

Will most adults be dressed up for the pirate party?

I am a little nervous about luggage space. We need to pack clothes for the parks, nice cruise casual clothes, nice dinner clothes, formal wear, swimsuits, clothes to bum around the room in. Room to pack all of the stuff I buy on the islands. Do I need to worry about the theme nights as well? I will never make it with two pieces of luggage and a carry on.

But I don't want to seem like a stick in the mud and not dress the part.

I was reading another thread and some dis meetings were on the promenade at 3pm first day. Something about comfy chairs. Works for me, I think.

Welcome mormadsmom! My four year old son is not shy and will drag your daughter into the kids club, like it or not.

Hello everyone! Welcome to our new cruisers! The last time I reported...let's see...I was getting back from the ER with my daughter who broke a crayon off in her nose! We have been sick here but nothing dramatic to report!:yay:

Mormadsmom...my daughter will also drag your daughter into the club!

TO be honest with you, not a lot of people dress for pirates night. I only remember seeing just a few (like a handful) and I was looking out for them! e didn't dress last year in pirate stuff. Others gave the me suggestion to weat tropical because of Pirates in the Caribbean and being tropical. That was a lot easier to pull off! All 4 of us actually had matching dresses/shirts! We got them in Hawaii when we were there last (and thank goodness they still fit)! So....if space is a problem (which is most likely the case for most of us), I would opt out of dressing pirate and bring something tropical that you could wear again. Of course, for some, that may take some of the fun out of it, but toting a 9 month old & 3.5 year old around last year with pirate stuff on sure didn't sound like fun to me! The have pirate bandanas for you when you get to dinner...they are black with red pirates on it...the guys/kids ear them on their heads and most of the ladies wore the around their necks.
Also, don't worry about bringing super nice dress clothes for every night's dinner! Wearing something on formal night is great (but don't worry about a formal gown) but something like Sunday best or better. Semi-formal night is like sunday best (at least for a lady...you could just wear a dress). The other nights are casual nice. And for these outfits, I would suggest mixing and matching whatever you could (if you are only going to wear it for a few hours, you can wear it again some other night...unless you're like my husband who always gets ketchup on him!) Plus, there is laundry onboard. We did wash half way through the week (with little ones, we had to) so that really helped on luggage! We only did 2 loads and it didn't take that long....we did it in the evening after the girls went to bed. We couldn't leave them in the room by themselves so why not do laundry then?!?! For past cruisers, do you agree with the dress for dinner?

For meeting together, last year, we met at the beginning of the sail away party. When you board the ship, everyone arrives at different times and others are walking around amazed so I wouldn't suggest before the fire drill. After the firedrill, the party starts! Oh, if I remember right, we could get into our room at 1:30 so we unpacked and rested a bit and then headed back out for a while before the firedrill. Last year, we met on the 10th deck (SOMEONE HELP ME ON THIS?!?!?) which was one deck above where the characters were dancing and the CM were on stage. It is really crowded on that deck (it's the one where the pools are on). They cover the Goofy pool to make it a floor for the sail away party and the pirates party. So we met one floor up and we looked down on the party (along with a lot of other people)! Believe me, you'll hear it!! And with the little ones being up front, everyone will be able to see. So...who's up for meeting at 5pm on deck 10(?) for the sail away party? The only problem is that it is loud but what a better way to start off, right? My only suggestion that would have helped us last year is to have sticky name tags for the meet up so that we can put a name to the face. Maybe someone could print out simple nametags on the printer with address labels. What do you think?

Well, I am going to post a few nessessities in a separate post!

Past cruisers...help me add to this list! I have my list from last year but can't find it right now so we can just keep adding to the list! And since I haven't even thought about packing:sad2: yet, my mind's not there yet!

Things I MUST take:
A cheap plastic over the door organizer (#1 important thing for me)....hang it on the inside of the bathroom door to put everything ecause there's not much counter space (escpecially if you have a full room!) Hair spray, lotions, sunblock, medicines, etc....it's easy to have it out and about!

Either a huge memory card for your camera or a laptop to dump them onto! I took so many pics last year that I'm so happy we brought our laptop! I guess you could bring a flash drive and us a computer onboard to download them onto the drive (as long as you have a portable card reader or the cord)

$1 bills (tip either room service, the luggage men, the van driver, etc)

Bubbles for the sail away party...we all had them at the meet-up! It was fun for the kids (and adults who were in kid mode at that time:lmao: )

We took the glow in the dark necklaces last year for the pirate party. The girls loved them because it's pitch black outside at 10pm and when the lights are turned out during the show, it's dark! You can sometimes find them at the dollar store.

Passporter book to refer to

Folder or envelope to put your Navigators/papers/etc

Pen!!

Handmade or store bought thank you cards for CM's to put tips in! It's a nicer gesture to put them in a card with a little personal note than just the envelope!

Autograph book (I made one). The ones that you buy that you can put pictures in only holds like 10 or 15 autographs. You can buy the smaller ones that has a lot of pages but you'll just have to cut your pictures down if you want to put a picture on the opposite page. **Always keep a pen with it**

Downy wrinkle releaser!! You'll need it after your clothes have been in a suitcase! Easy to use...just spray on lightly and smooth it out!

THINGS that I took but didn't use:
laundry detergent (it was reported on previous boards that the machines were always broken, etc but we didn't have any problem at all...it wasn't expensive...like $1 box)

book (with little ones, we didn't get a chance to sit and read anything). Could hardly fit in the Navigator!

Dryer sheets (was reported that rubbing these one the body protected against mosquitos). We never saw a mosquito so not sure where that idea even came from!

My brain has shut off but there's more to add to this list! I'll update when I find my list and add everyone else's responses to it!

Night!
Kym

Wow, there's been lots of postings:thumbsup2
I've been so busy at work that I haven't had time to check in. Here's our stats...to add to the list....Me (jackie 43) DH (larry 42) DD (kaitlin 14) DD(megan 10), DF (friend liz 43) DH (neil 47) DD (sydney 9) DD (lindsay 8). We're in rooms 7018 & 7016 and have early dinner. Our cousins from California had to cancel their cruise:sad2:
We've been doing a little shopping and a lot of laundry to get all our smmer clothes ready. It's been so cold here (Toronto), it's hard to imagine that in 37 days we'll be in shorts:banana: :cool1:
We are flying in the morning of the cruise and look forward to meeting you all. Especially for the kids, it would be nice if they all had someone to pal around with in the clubs. My 14 yr old is hoping to go to the teen club, but is a little nervous about making new friends.
Looks like we're finally in for some half decent weather:cheer2: 50 degrees....way better then the minus degree weather we've been having.
Here's to the sunshine:woohoo: :woohoo:

Yes, it would definitely be great to "meet up" with some of you. I still have to find some tropical clothing and probably some pirate themed stuff too.

Just a little info, I have 2 daughters Morgan age 11 and Madalyn (Maddie) just turned 5 this month. We live in Weston, FL which is a city in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. We live 4 1/2 hours from Orlando and probably have been to Disney 3 times in the last 5 years we've lived here. Just do not seem to find the time. We moved here from Clayton, NC so we really enjoy living in South Florida. Weather this week has been a little cool. We were able to turn off the air and open some windows to air out the house a bit.

We have not booked excursion in St John or St Maarten yet. Can't decide to do that or just "wing" it. We do have Palo reserved at 8 on friday night. Anyone else going without passports. We've thought about getting them, but not in time for the cruise sinice they are not required yet. I

Also,

I don't have our stateroom number yet. Wonder why? We've been paid in full over a month now, so I wonder what is up with that? We have cat 8 room.

just liked the irony.

I have a10 year old boy 'West' and my 7 yo is Colton. He'll be happy to lead any of the younger kids astray. Its what he does best.:upsidedow

Wow, there are going to be ALOT of 5/6 year olds on this trip.:rolleyes1 I told my daughter who is very excited! We booked a late flight as since we were afraid of not having enough time. Now I hear were off the boat in the morning! So we decided to rent a car and drive to the Disney Market Place and enjoy the day. It will be exhausting but our last Disney day is always at the Market Place! The Cruise will be no exception!

I think the name badges and meeting is a great idea. Might they be big or bold so I can spot you out?:hippie: My eyesight is terrible. Again ALOT of us are on deck 7, so please look for our decorated Faith&Hope Logo on the door (as soon as I purchase my magnet paper and figure out how to print):woohoo: and say hi! After 4 years were finally preggers, I will be the one puking on the side of the boat! 1 month to go!

Hi,

I am new to these boards. My family is booked for the April 28 May 5 Eastern!

It will be myself, husband and 2 daughters age 11 and 5. I'd love to meet other who are going too as this will be our first cruise. Also, I'd like for my kids to "know" someone who will probably be in the Oceaneer club/lab with them. I know my little one will be a little apprehensive going sometimes since she does not go to preschool and is not used to being in the care of others.

We are all excited and cannot wait! I haven't booked any excursions other than parasailing in CC and Palo on our last night. We are thinking of just doing beach days at the ports and maybe a little shopping. We are definitely going for relaxation!
HI!!

I have a 5 year old DD - she loves to make new friends!!! We will have to have them meet up!!

there are several girls in their age group!!

poshspice....you are so funny! You will not get sick! I wish I could take the credit for the logo but I'm far from being able to make that! Thanks to Julia&Nicksmom for the logo. She's the professional designer!! I'm still learning!

I wish I could commit to making the little sticky nametags just to wear at a meet up but I'm so over my head right now....we are having a huge yard sale this weekend, we are looking into adding a second story onto the house, I'm having surgery as soon as we get back....hmmm....I just haven't had any time or energy to try to get ready for this cruise! I'm slowly but surely getting there though! Anyone want to volunteer to take the names off the master list (which I have posted and now have a few updates...I'm sure it will keep changing until the day of the cruise) and print simple nametags? You won't wear them the whole cruise, only the first day when we meet. From there.....you better have a good memory!:lmao: You really wouldn't think that you would keep running into the same people everyday because the boat is big, but you will!

I got an email from "webmaster@disboards.com" but it is blank. There's nothing in the email. Anyone had this happen to them? I've never gotten anything from the webmaster before:confused3

poshspice......Congratulations! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Did you just find out?
The thing to remember about pregnancy sickness (aka morning sickness, progesterone poisoning) is that it is something you can eat your way out of! What could be better than a cruise to accomplish that!

I can make the nametags. I will be leaving on April 20th so I would like to start them early. What do you want them to say? Names, usernames? Characters from the door signs? Home state?

poshspice:
I cruised when I was 4 months pregnant with DS - make sure you get a release from your doctor so you can cruise - I had a friend who went and they would not let her on b.c she did not have the note from her doctor

I would also ask your doctor for a prescription of phenergan - I was a little worse on the boat but overall it wasn't really much worse than normal nausea for me!!

Faith & Hope: The Dis was down all day yesterday and a lot of people got random blank messages from the webmasters - don't worry about it!!!
Also - I have gotten your emails but i have been very sick and on my laptop - I dont design on my laptop so I have not been doing any designs - hopefully later today!!!

Faith & Hope...
The cruise meet that you suggested (Deck 10 @ 5:00 pm) sounds great.

Megakat....
My DS (14) Taylor, will be going to The Stack. Like your daughter, he is nervous about meeting new people. We will also be heading from Toronto the day of departure. Maybe we will be on the same plane?

As for room assignment, we still do not have a room number. I think we might be booked for the boiler room. :rotfl2:

For the list...
DW (43) Kathy, DH (42) Mark, DS (14) Taylor and DD (9) Katie with late dinner seating.

Today we are getting a downpour of rain so we cannot get on this trip fast enough!!

First let me apolgize for not thanking Julia & Nicks mom for the great logos. I wanted to thank Faith&Hope for giving us all the great ideas on what to bring on the cruise. :laundy: I was happy for the reminder of the doctors note and the recommendation of Phenergan. Is that in pill form and did it help you with the sea sickness? Shooie you are so sweet for the thoughts & the name tags. There are so many of us now, I want to make sure I thank all who give us such insight. I am 3 months along now and after 3 years of 4 IUI'S and 2 Invitro, we are so happy to finally be going away. This is truly a gift for us regardless of the impending illness. Im more scared to be seen pasty & ripply in a bathing suit! YIPES Have you seen any attractive suits out there?:rotfl2:

Phenergan does come in a pill form as well as suppository - I had my DS at the end of August and we cruised at the end of March - I was about 4 weeks along - we were supposed to go in may and had to change the date b/c I would have been past the date that Disney lets you sail - seems like you will be beyond the worst part of the morning sickness like I was - I really had no problems and did not take the phenergan on my cruise - but i was sick all 9 months with my DD and phenergan was a life saver!!

This is the maternity swimsuit I had - but mine was blue - I wore it ont he crusie and evern snorkeled in it - I can't tell you how comfortable it was and I was not at all embarrassed in it!!
