EARLY CHECK IN: December 15th, 2007 - Seven night Western - 12/15/07

Hi everyone! Two weeks from today before our flight to Florida...

Susan, I'm glad the surgery went well. We've been through the soft diet many times, as we've been through 5 sets of braces in the house in the past 10 years (my car can drive to the ortho by itself now). Scrambled eggs with cheese and avocado was a fave of DD, and it was more filling than shakes. Jamba Juice was always a hit, too - don't know if you have those where you are. Kudos to David for taking care of you.

Cristi, I hope Jacob is okay. I think it's about time for all of us to strap our kiddos to a padded chair so nothing major happens before the cruise. A cast would put a damper on all of the water activities we have planned...

It's getting chilly here, too, but no snow for us, ever. We'll still be happy to leave the parkas at home and get into our shorts and bathing suits again. :beach:

Not sure about everyone else...but we're in panic mode here in Indy. So much to do and so little time to do it in. :scared1:

I'm in panic mood too, so I understand. I've gotten the suitcase out but haven't packed anything. I still have to finish my MQP. Christmas Shopping. My bridal shop deposit thing is making money tight in other areas. I'm freaking a little.

I forgot to ask this morning--DD wanted her hair "done" for formal night this time. I told her she could get it done at the salon. Well, I didn't know that they are part of the spa and you have to be 18. So now she is all uptight about what she's going to do with her hair. I have no clue about hair, mine has always been short. I told her I would ask my DIS friends and see if there is anyone that can and is willing to do hair.

If there are others like me, and since formal night is on a sea day do we want to have a hair party for all the girls? We can use one of my staterooms, send the guys out to do guy things, order room service and get all the girls spiffied up for formal night. Just an idea.

Hey, that sounds fun. I am no good at doing hair. Rachel loves doing hair though. Mine is short, but she has been trying to decide how to do hers already.

Getting close to panic here too and I have to work this weekend!:scared1:
I pulled out all of the Christmas presents in my room to see what I had for everyone. Brad is done and Rachel is done. I still need to get something else for Jacob. My neice's are done and Brad's sister is done. Brad knows what he is getting his BIL and dad so he is in charge of them. I still need to figure out his mom, my folks and my brother and family. I still think I will do gift cards for the out of towner's.

I got Jacob a shirt to wear for semi formal night so he is all set now. I think that clothes wise we are all set for the cruise. I just need to start packing to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. Hopefully on Sunday afternoon I should be able to do that. I am hoping to only have to work until 1 or 2 on that day.

A hair party for the girls sounds like fun. I'm hair challenged myself which is why I still wear my hair pretty much the same way all these years. Laura's hair is not that long but I'm going to try to remember to ask my hair dresser when I see her on the 12th for some easy ideas for Laura's hair. Her hair was long for the Father/Daughter dance and we had it done for a reasonable price at the local hair school. Too bad they don't have one of those on board.

We are starting to get in panic mode here, or a least I am. Being a typical male my husband has no idea what needs to be done before we leave and most of tomorrow is taken up with other committments.

Have a good weekend.
Patty

‘Twas Two Weeks ‘Fore Cruising

‘Twas 2 weeks ‘til our Western, and all through the house
A small creature was stirring, it must be my spouse.
Both clothing and shoes were laid out with great care,
In hopes that our packing day soon would be there.

Does she need a sweater?
Does he need a cap?
We do need strong sunscreen for our Castaway Cay nap!

Out on the porch with 'nary a clatter,
Was something of import to this DCL matter.
The sun was quite bright on this December day.
I went out for the mail to see something sent my way!

Brought by a brown truck, so silent and quick,
I saw from the address - it was from the Mick!
Oh checklist, oh luggage tags, oh cruise docs and all!
It was for the Western we're sailing this fall!

Clothes were on our guest bed from headboard to foot,
And for Pirate Night, a pair of black boots.
A cruise box with goodies lay on the floor,
Filled to the max, and waiting for more.

Her eyes now they twinkle, this Wife that I married,
So much still to be done, it’s really quite scary.
Like Pirate Night costumes from she who can sew,
But we've got a plan, and will be ready to go.

She's smiling and happy, this wife of myself.
We've got to keep packing, and stay in good health.
We've done on-line forms, and our paperwork,
And now our excitement is starting to perk.

For our 10th anniversary, I'll give her no rose,
A 7-night Western is what she and I chose.
We'll kayak in Cayman, swim with stingrays,
Cavort in Cozumel, and have Palo two ways.

And when our Western is sadly done,
We'll look back and say, "That sure was great fun!"

:santa:

[I found this posting months ago on a DIS board, and modified it slightly for our cruise so I could print it out for my family. Unfortunately, I forgot to note the original poster’s name so I can’t offer credit, but if you see this, THANKS! It’s wonderful.]

:thanks: A big thank you to Cristi and all the great folks in Colorado!!!!!!!

We got your lovely present of an ice storm, no swim meet for us today!!! I think the pirate costumes will come a long ways today!!

OK, the poem made me cry. I'll blame it on my achy jaws and the pain meds. I cannot believe we are so close. So much to do.

Stacie, I'm glad for the snow. I hope you get those costumes done.

Cristi, how is Jacob's head?

Two weeks from today we'll be waiting to board the Magic:cool1: :woohoo: :dance3:

It's the least I could do. ;)

Susan, Jacob's head is fine, thanks for asking. He said it still hurts to touch it, but he was rolling around the floor last night with the dog so I don't think it hurts too much. The swelling is almost gone, the bruise will probably stick with him a little while.

Love the poem!!!

I am at work right now, shhh... I shouldn't be online. Just waiting for the rest of the results to come off the instrument and then I can leave. Hopefully, only another 40-45 minutes. I have huge piles of laundry to finish at my house.:laundy: I am hoping my inlaws are not there when I get home. Brad is supposed to be doing something to there car and they were going to bring the car to our house for that (Brad can't ever find the tools he needs at his dad's house.) If I can get the laundry finished today, I will be able to pull out suitcases tomorrow. :dance3:

I hope you got out of work when you wanted, Cristi.

I spent some time going through John's clothes to see what he'll need for the cruise. I hate to buy him new summer clothes that he'll outgrow before next year. I think all the 2-piece outfits will work, but the one piece ones will go in a box.

Patti, I forgot to answer your question a while back about HSM. Rachel watched both movies, but she's not really "into" it. She has just started watching Hannah Montana and really likes her. I hope you and Laura and friends enjoyed the show.

I got out of work around 1:30 or 2 yesterday. I should be able to get out around 12 today if all goes well. I didn't get my laundry finished though. I did a little more and then I wasn't feeling great. You know that feeling you have like you are getting sick. I took a bunch of vitamins, drank juice, watched tv and went to bed early.

Christi - Hope you are feeling better, but if your going to get sick before the cruise now would be the best time since you still hve 13 days, hopefully it doesn't go around the family. Keep up on the vitamins and get lots of rest.

Susan -Laura had a great time at the HSM show last night. The average age at the show was probably 6 or 7. A few Dad's were in the audience as well as brothers but it was mostly little girls and their moms. Laura has seen both movies and has the first one on DVD. She is getting #2 for Christmas from my sister.

Hannah Montana is in concert here on Monday at the new Sprint Center. There was a big ticket controversy over the ticket sales. Tickets sold out in a matter of like 5 minutes. I guess there is some computer program that some ticket buyers have that helps them beat the system and buy up large quanity of tickets that they resell for hundreds of dollars a piece.

What I've noticed at Laura's school is that the kindergartners, 1st and most of the 2nd grade girls are into HSM and a few of the 2nd graders and 3rd grade and up are more into Hannah Montana.

I even like Hannah Montana some. I noticed the tour dates were in Worcester at the DCU center and Shaun & I were going to take this little girl Shaun & I know as it has been a rough year for her and then we realized that the dates were during my cruise and Shaun didn't want to go alone with a 5 year old girl. But the issues I heard with those tickets is ridiculus. I wouldn't pay $300+ a ticket for anyone.

We're sick, too - colds for all of us (DH was hit hardest) and stomach flu for me and DH. DD's piano recital is today - I'm crossing my fingers that she feels well enough to play at the recital. She's been working really hard on her pieces, and I'd hate to have her miss the chance to show what she's learned.

I was thinking along the same lines as Patty - at least we're sick now, when we have plenty of time to recover. We take AirBorne - they're little tablets that you dissolve in water (the orange flavor tastes exactly like fizzy Tang). It's a multivitamin/Vitamin C/zinc-packed combo. It's supposed to shorten the duration of a cold and lessen the severity too - I've noticed that when I take it my colds don't turn into bronchitis like they used to, so I think it actually does work to shorten the life of the cold.

High School Musical is popular with the tweens in our area, too - DD never really got caught up in it. Hannah Montana is really popular with grades 1 or 2 and up, all the way through junior high. The concerts here were sold out really quickly, and there was a huge controversy over the ticket resellers charging insanely high prices for the tickets (and moms doing incredible things to pay for them). I was able to get tickets online (somehow) and there were very few men in attendance. We saw one dressed up as Billy Ray, and his daughter was dressed as Hannah!

Happy and safe weekends to all of you. :goodvibes

Hope everyone gets to feeling better soon!!!

The ice from yesterday is mostly gone. It rained in the afternoon and turned everything into slush so the areas that were plowed around 3 or 4 o'clock are clear. The parking lots and sidewalks are a different story.

I got DDs pirate outfit done, and DH and DS's vest are done. I only have Andy's vest left to do.
