For room only, the rate will be subject to change. You can make a reservation at 499 days out.
You didn't say when in May, but for a reservation on May 1, 2013, you can make your room only ressie on December 19, 2011.
You can plug dates in the PS calculator to get specific dates based on whatever date you're wanting to check in.

As the pp said, a room only reservation can be made 499 days out, which will be quoted at the highest rate for the current year and then adjusted once the 2013 rates are released. Keep in mind that if you book room only and then want to change to a package, your room only will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit as money paid toward a room only cannot be transferred to a package (same goes for switching from a package to a room only reservation).

im pretty good at the reservation stuff. Been there done that. at this point im looking at dates and events scheduling during our stay... anyone know of that normally occur in May? events that are not Disney but events at WDW during that time. sports,cheerleading, etc etc....

Lots of senior class trips in May.

We went last year, May 7-14th. Crowds were wonderful until our last day at MK (it was a Friday) there were A LOT of school field trips and we ended up leaving the park early b/c it was so busy. Other than that our longest wait for all the rides was 5 minutes the entire week! I think Star Wars weekends are usually at the end of May.

dont mind a few extra kids......just dont want overcrowded resorts. its a senior trip for us(daughters senior yr at college-grad trip after commencement].

heard stories of baseball kids and cheerleaders taking over the place at certain time of the yr.....

just trying to find the best week in May as we are only able that month.

Always done june 18th week and thats too hot for us and a bit crowded......

On another related note, reservations for dining can be made 180 days ahead of time. My wife has our whole itinerary worked out and has bookmarked the day to call in the reservations. Seems a bit crazy to me, but it's her dream vacation, so more power to her I say.
