Getting ear protection muffs for my daughter and I. My daughter is 7, no sensory issues. Heading to Fantasmic, and maybe for Wishes. Just want to protect her hearing, as anything over 100 decibals is dangerous for 25 minutes. I also heard they shoot a cannon!!! Which I think is insane, but anyway. I am not a big fan of putting things in my ear for earplugs, and I want to save my hearing too. My hubby can wear plugs.
I was considering the Peltor for kids which everyone uses with an NRR of 22, but for decibals, I know Nrr25 Revo or Nrr 25 Tasco Kidsafe is stronger for protection. Especially for concerts, in the future.
Someone stated Peltor may be better because the higher protection on the others may make things more muffled.
My question is if we do the Nrr 25 muffs, will she still be able to hear the show well?? Or will it totally be all muffled like she is underwater??? Im not that concerned with her hearing us. Just unsure how muffled things are though I guess earplugs with a NRR32 woudl be worse ? I have never worn plugs or muffs in my life.
For me, I was planning on the Nrr27 for women the Walkers low profile.
Any thoughts???
I have read too many things lately about dangerous sound levels for the ears. I also am sensitive to strong sounds myself, and I know I will be worried and not enjoy the show without them.
Thx!!!!! :)

I jsut dont want my ears to ring after. I heard it was extremely loud as loud or louder then a concert. Children have a lower threshold then us, and hearing loss is cumulative over the years, so Im over protective I know. LOL. But more and more children are getting noise induced hearing loss because of ipods, and louder and louder movies, and more events and attractions then when we were kids. :) She loves, Maleficent so I know that wont bother her :)

Honestly, I don't think it is very loud at all. It's nothing like a concert. I've never had ringing in my ears afterward. Do what you need to do to feel comfortable, though.

I don't remember it being loud at all.

It is interesting because many say its extremely loud, and others say its not. So who know?? LOL..Im sure its over 100 db which is in the danger zone for possible hearing damage over a 15 minute perios of that continuous db......I am not a concert goer and the last one I went to I thought it was extremely loud, with ears ringing, where my husband didnt think it was that loud. :)

It's not that loud but even if it was it is not sustained loud long enough to matter. Nothing like a concert. If you want to wear them I would get them and test them at home watching TV and see what can be heard.

What about all the gunshots and cannon?? That scares me ..LOL :)

No loud noise during the shows at Disney are over 15 min continuously loud

I thought the entire Fantasmic was loud continuous booms and music?? Ok. maybe I will be pleasantly surprised. I guess it cant hurt to bring them :) After the last concert I went to I was really upset, and will never go to a concert again without ear protection. But then again, I was by a speaker up front, and for 2 hrs of continuous music.

There is music all during the show but remember, F! is outside, not indoors and you are not anywhere near a speaker.
You can watch F! on Youtube and judge for yourself too

No shows at Disney are all that loud. And none of the noises last for 15 minutes straight. You can talk to the people around you during the show without raising your voice. It's not that bad. Again, though, you should ignore all of us and do what you need to do to feel safe and comfortable.

OK. Interesting. Everything I read thru research and response from an older thread of mine, mostly everyone said its beyond loud!!! HA!
I just am looking though for more of an answer on my question about the 2 muffs. Maybe someone will chime in.

It's not going to be anything like a concert. It's absolutely not going to damage your daughter's hearing. There is no risk of tinnitus.

My daughter has some issues with loud noises when she was younger and was fine without earplugs.

I tend to agree with the previous posters that there aren't any shows that are loud/continuous enough at Disney that I would wear hearing protection.

That said, I am the guy who doesn't mind looking goofy and wears hearing protection while mowing the lawn or using the snowblower so I don't need to crank up the earbud music (or particularly spoken language like podcasts / ball games) so loud. I have a couple different pairs that I use regularly. Both pairs are made by 3M one of which is a 21 (mostly for woodworking tools where the sound provides additional insight) and the other a 30.

In a quiet or single noise source environment you can definitely hear more wearing the 21's than the 30's, that's probably desirable with something like Fantasmic. However, I'm not sure that the dialog & lyrics are loud enough to be clearly understandable and enjoyable even with the lighter ones. I've never felt compelled to wish I had them with.

This is so good to know! Maybe I wont need them after all! Maybe people complained and they changed the volume!LOL..I saw so many posts complaining about how loud it was. I was scared about a cannon shot???? Wouldnt that be considered deafening? I would think Disney would warn people or hand out earplugs if certain attractions were risky.

My mother is a speech pathologist and is always concerned about noise levels. When I was a kid, she always set my Walkman to what she deemed was the appropriate level. She didn't bat an eye at either Fantasmic or Wishes. Unless someone had a sensory issue, I really wouldn't be concerned.

It's not a real cannon that shoots an actual cannonball, you know. It's a prop with an "explosion" that is comparable to fireworks. It's, like, 3 seconds of noise.

it is nowhere near as loud as a concert!
at a concert i wear ear plugs. i would never even consider wearing ear plugs/muffs for wishes or fantasmic.
your ears will be fine.

Great! Do you think Wishes is louder?? Maybe I should still bring them in case for that. On 4th of July I had my ears covered the entire time and did not enjoy it this year, and we kind of far back. Also we went to a loud parade with tons of fire engine sirens, and yet again I had my fingers in my ears. :)
