Ear Piercing Available at any Resorts?

Hi Everyone - I am new to you all, but have been lurking for a long time (I'm afraid to admit how long). I am excited to finally take the "plunge" and join the Dis Family. We are a family of five...2 girls 7 & 9 and one 16 month old son. For Christmas, we plan on surprising the girls with pierced earrings to indicate that we are allowing them to finally get their ears pierced. They will be so excited and want to do it right away. Since we will be at Disney from 12/21 - 12/31, we anticipate that they will want to get this done ASAP, rather than waiting until we get home. Does anyone know if any of the Jewelry stores at any of the resorts offer ear piercing? If not, does anyone know of any Jewelry stores close to Disney that I might contact to see if they offer this service? We will be staying at the Dolphin, but would be willing to go to the GF or other resorts if needed.

TIA.

Camala - I would love to know too!!! DD keeps BEGGING to get hers done. It would be great to do it on our trip!

Claires Link

This is a listing for the Claires in the area. I mapped the one listed at 8200 Vineland - they list it at about 8.6 miles, but they take you the very round about way on the map - they go over on World Drive & up International South instead of going out onto I4 - I think it's maybe more like 4 miles? I know that outlet mall was very easy to get to - just didn't realize there was a Claires there.

I've never seen anyplace at WDW or any of the resorts that do ear piercing. If you wnat to do it while you are there, you would probably need to find a mall that has a Claire's, Piercing Pagoda or some sort of shop like that.
But, it's probably a good idea to wait until after you get home. They usually say not to swim for up to 6 weeks after geting them pierced to allow the to heal. Also, you'll need rotate the earrings and clean them twice a day with alcohol or other antiseptic for 6 weeks. It might be a lot easier to do that after you are home.

IMHO, I would wait till I got home. I got my ears pierced about 8 weeks ago. For the first few days my ears HURT! They ached and throbed all the time. I was really surprized how much it hurt. I know kids are usually bounce back quicker than adults, but I would wait.

They still hurt and are not healed enough to remove the studs. I catch them on my shirt, my hair, etc and the pain is surprisingly bad! I knew it would hurt to have them done, I just never excepted it to last this long.:(

I believe you can have it done at the magic Kingdom at the PoC ride inside the shop.

I would definitely wait until you got home. Swimming in highly chlorinated water can burn the newly pierced ears and germs can infect them easily. Also if you need to put sunscreen on your ears you will not be able to do so until the ears are healed. I would wait and give them something to look forward to when they have to leave WDW.

I would also want to wait. I remember when mine were done (yeah, way back when) they hurt even when the wind blew. If you're going on roller coasters and fast rides that might even hurt their ears. Why don't you surprise them in WDW by going into a shop and letting them pick out Disney earings to wear after. Just an idea!

I would have to agree with the other posters....I would wait until after vacation. Your daughters ears may very well be quite sore and that would definitely interupt with their sleep....also would not allow them to swim either. You do have to do quite a bit of maintenance until they heal...between the alcohol and antibiotic ointment and making sure that you turn the earrings a few times a day can be a pain in the middle of a Mickey vacation. Maybe instead of giving them as a gift for Christmas, you could leave them under each daughters pillow on the last night of vacation, so that they would find them in the morning. You could tell them that they were gifts from Mickey (or their favorite character) and as soon as you get home they will be able to get them done. This way ending the vacation may not be so sad....they have another great surprise waiting at home!!

I'd also wait, mainly for the reasons stated, as well as they won't be able to use the earrings you buy them to get their ears pierced with or wear them for a LONG time. They now use earrings that are specially packed in steril containers to hold down the risk of infections. The earings also are slightly "pointed" on the end, to help them go in easier. Also, whem my DD got hers pierced, we were told to not change the earrings for at least 3 months, to make sure the hold healed correctly. It also wouldn't be advised to wear newly pierced ears in a pool enviornment, since she was warned to try to keep them relatively dry for the first few days.

CDC, I don't want to freak you out, but you might want to have your doctor take a look. That doesn't sound like a "typical" ear piercing to me... :(

Well, I'm glad I came to you guys for information. I had not thought about these potential short term problems when I was planning the surprise. You all have convinced to wait until we get home or at least leave Disney. We will be going down to St. Pete to visit the in-laws for a few days before heading home, so maybe we will do it down there.

I think that I will still give them a pair of earrings for X-mas (even if they won't be able to wear them for a few months) so they have something to look forward to when we leave Disney. I'm sure that if I explain to them that they won't be able to swim if we do it right away (weather permitting), they would agree to wait until the end of the trip.

Thanks so much!!!

Sounds like you may have an infection in your ears. I agree with MHopkins2....I would make a visit to your doctor for this. It reminds me when I had my 2nd holes done, and the jewlery store advised me that I no longer needed to use alcohol and anti-biotic ointment...just use the "bottle" that they supplied me. Needless to say, they never did heal, got a severe infection and had to remove them to have them heal. Went back a few years later to have 2nd and 3rd holes done and this time I listened to NO ONE!!! I used my alcohol and anti-biotic ointment, they healed very quickly and have virtually no pain/discomfort after the first day.

Just to be the devil's advocate, my DD had wanted her ears pierced for some time but was a little afraid of the pain. I told her to wait until she was sure. She decieded she was ready on our vacation in Hawaii this summer. She could not swim for 24 hours
but after that we swam and went to the beach. Cleaning the ears was nothing, cotton swabs and this solution you buy when you get the ears' pierced. There was no pain after the fact. I guess we were lucky but I'm glad we did it then. DD was so proud of her earing and having it done on a wonderful vacation in Hawaii makes it even more special!

I thought I'd pop in and give a bit of advise that wasn't given here.

We had my daughter's ears pierced in July for her birthday. We went to the dermatologist to have them done. I felt so much better about having someone who is a professional do her ears than someone who worked in a mall store. They supplied the gold earrings and did careful measurements to get the earrings placed evenly on her head (no two ears are alike). She had no problems with pain (except for the daily alcohol cleaning for the first few days) either....and was able to continue her daily swim lessons without problem.

You know I wanted to get DD's ears pierced by my doctor too.
She is a wonderful doctor and and good friend. She said "take her to the mall"

Anyway, the earings at mall come in a steril pouch now, so the important thing is to keep the ears clean with the solution.

Coming home after a WDW vacation is usually a bit of a letdown, so I think having something exciting to look forward to after coming home (getting ears pierced) would be great for your girls!

Have a fun trip!

I just had both my DD's ears done: ages 4, and 7. It was no big deal. There was not much pain after the intial stick. I did make them wait more than 8 weeks before changing earrings. I also only let them wear 14K gold earrings. You may find some cute gold Mickey earrings in the gift shops. Good luck!
