Ear piercing and soccer

Don't do it! Poor dd9 has had her ears pierced twice and closed up, one from soccer, one from swimming, and she took them out after the allotted time (which is much longer than 2 weeks).

You can't leave them in for swimming?

That's weird--my dd swam all last summer on swim team with earrings and I did swim team in high school with earrings.

Perhaps it is in consideration of pool safety if the earring fell out or something as simple as one less thing to cause drag in the water.

But if earrings are otherwise allowed in a pool environment, I can't think of any reason that a kid cannot wear their earrings in a swim meet.

Didn't know about the peroxide! That's what I used to use. My mom got a bottle of stuff when she had her ears pierced so I will see what it is. I know we used peroxide when I had mine done 25 years ago.

I found her a cute pair of clip ons at Claire's this afternoon. They are sparkly flowers. They were only $6.50 and they were exactly what I was hoping for so she'll be really excited when she gets home.

From experience, I can tell you catching a ball to an ear with an earring in it does not yield a pretty result. I did it one summer while camp counseling, went to catch the softball for running bases, and knocked out 2 of my 3 earrings in that ear. It took months for the scab to be gone from behind that ear.

And with the closing up, I've had my highest hole for over 10 years. I went 36 hours over a weekend without earrings in. The hole almost closed up on me. i can just imagine how quickly a hole will close up if it was a fresh piercing.
