Hi all

Well our trip is slowly coming up.. (23days) Yippe.. Well here is what IM looking for and maybe some of you can come up with a product or idea etc..
My daughter is autistic, She also has very senative Ears.. In Dec she spent 85% of the trip with her hands over her ears trying to cut the noise down. So this time Im looking for an ear muff type thing, Small enough for a 6yr, light enough to carry threw the parks when she doesnt want to use them, and of course CHEAP enough (under 30$) She wont keep the foam things in her ears.,
So do any of you have any ideas? Thanks a Bunch :)

My son is sound sensitive. Ear plugs won't stay in.

When we will be somewhere where the sound or people factor will be too much we take his personal CD player and put it on. The headphones buffer and he can listen to what he wants.

You could use just headphones with no player. Maybe look for some with the bigger foam covering for comfort.

If you have time (and creativity) decorate them to look like Mouse ears or Disney like so she may want to wear them.

When my son was smaller he had the tubes in his ears since he had constant ear infections.
He could not get his inner ear wet and we purchased the Ear Bandit. You probably have seen them,
they fit around the child's head and are wider on each side to go over the child's ears.
They come in blue and red, maybe other colors. We put that on my son at the beach, pool, tub, etc.
It doesn't look uncomfortable and it is lightweight. Maybe that would work. I think they sell them in
Toys R Us and we got ours at FirstStep Ahead or OneStep Ahead. I don't remember the name anymore but they are fairly easy to find. I hope you find a good solution so you can all enjoy Disney :)

The "hearing protection" ear muffs that are sold in hardware stores would probably fit a six year old. I've seen children with autism wear them at the Children's Theatre where I work because the sound system can get pretty loud, as well as other children laughing and yelling sometimes. The cost about twelve dollars.

My son is very sensitive to loud noises. We avoided the fireworks and even the parades, rushing into a store or attraction. Several years ago, we purchased the earmuffs used for protection when shooting a gun. He loves them and since his hearing is so sensitive, he can still carry on a conversation if we're close. We've used them also at an unfamiliar attraction just to start and then sometimes he removes them as he gets used to the volume level. Even, the guys checking the bags at the gate last year got a real kick out of teasing him and looking for his guns. They fold up small and have a belt clip. He hangs them off a backpack. I think the muffs were not too expensive. We got them at a Galyans Store.
Good Luck

Well I got her Ear Muffs.

I think they are for Gun Shooting.. But they are Junior Size and fit her Perfectly..

Plus they kinda sqeeze her head (an added bonus for deep pressure)

She LOVES them.. I tryied them on and they dont muffle the sound either, If I was talking to her I couldnt hear her, but for Loud muisic etc they are fine..

Thanks all..I cant wait till our Disney trip in 10 Days.:Pinkbounc

And hopefully this trip, with her anixety medication, Stroller as a wheelchair(thanks Sue) and these Ear Muffs, Plus knowing what is going to happen this trip, will cut down on her stress level.. Thanks again all....

Here are some quiet bounces of pixie dust for a great trip. Those ear muffs sound like a great hint. Please let us know how well they worked when you get back. I'm sure you will be all full of good hints to share :chat: when you get back.

One other hint I just thought about. If your DD doesn't like being close to the fireworks for Illuminations, a good place to get an overall view and not be too close is right in front of the Baby Care and First Aid Station. It's marked Odyssey Center on the map. You can see a large area of WS and see the fireworks, but if it gets too stimulating there, you can retreat to the ladies room, which is right behind you. The other good thing is that there is almost no one there so you can watch in peace and there are some benches so you can sit if you want.
