I've been on these boards lurking and reading as much as possible because we are thinking about becoming dvc members and doing ssr. But every now and then I see a post about something called eagle pines. What is this? Also does anyone remember the old tree houses that you could stay in? If so do you know what is happening with them or what will be happening with them. Thanks :) :sunny:

Eagle pines was the DVC resort that didn't get build....WDW offers DI - which became SSR instead....

doesn't mean one day Eagle Pines won't be built - just not now...

rumors abond about what will happen (if anything) to the Treehouses.

right now they are being fixed up for the international students to use....

they can't be torn down - to near the water(????) -

since they can't be made handicapped accessible - I don't see Disney renting them out to guests again.

Is Disney required by law to offer HA rooms for all room types? SSR offers other HA options, so this might not be a roadblock for the Tree Houses.

It would be a shame if HA wasn't offered if the TH's are ever available again, but I don't know the law on this. Short of installing an elevator, I'd think they'd be really difficult to rehab for HA.

I think the main holdup for rehab here is the boatload of money it would take to bring these units up to current code and guest expectations. They're cool (we loved them), but they're waaay outdated and rundown. There are only about 70 of them, so it might not be worth the money to do it versus what Disney/DVC could get per night to book them. I'm sure it's probably a lot more cost efficient right now to just clean them up a little and stick the international kids in them.

Actually when I was at POR last May, a cast member told us that they couldn't do anything with them because of the Department of Enviromental Protection. Some kind of loophole that allowed that property to go back to a wetlands status so Disney has their hands tied right now and can't do anything with them. I'm sure they will get it resolved at some point as $$$ fixes everything....

Yup, it's a wetlands thing. They can use them and rebuild/rehab them - if they use the same "footprint", but they can't tear them down and do something else with the area. And I think you're probably right about $$$ resolving it. Disney usually gets what Disney wants. Eventually.

Eagle Pines was supposed to be located on the Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge golf courses.

If you exit OKW and turn left, go to the light and turn right, go straight ahead past Orleans, you eventually will come to a 'T' intersection where you have to turn. If you went left you'd go past the campground and on around toward Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary areas. If you turned right, you'd go over toward the WDW warehouses complex.

At that 'T' intersection is where the Eagle Pines resort is planned, should they ever build it. Instead of remaining a 'T', it would become a regular intersection, and you would drive straight across into the Eagle Pines resort complex.

We were told by a CM that the treehouses were going to be torn down. Too outdated and not worth fixing. Now that was a while ago.
