EA discount back?

It has been discussed several times here recently that the EA discount offered in the past seemed to have disappeared from National.

Since I check my National ressie for August every day trying to catch any price drops, I have noticed it seems to be back!! When I do my checking, I usually start a new res just to get a quote. I don't usually bother putting in my DC contract # or coupon #, as mainly I am watching for base rate changes. When signed in under EA, the contract # defaults to EA. In the last couple of days, I have seen an automatic 15% discount applied in the discount section (not the base rate section).

Since my DC discount is better (20%), it does not get me a better deal, but I thought it might of interest to others who do not have Disney Club.

It seems like the overall rate is lower. I had just checked and it dropped from $162 to $152 for 8 days, EA in August. That's using DC and DC coupon for 1 free weekend day.

just tried the website and the EA contract code does not give me any discount just a base rate of 135$ for the times i checked....the DC used to be 155$ but now is down to base rate of 135$ plus they take off the 20%

tried it also with NO code in the contract ID and it came back at 135$ ...so it seems that there is no Discount with the EA at the present time

cannot seem to get anything extra for the entertainment contract id now either....it is usually 10%

so who knows what lurks beneath National's web site

I wonder if this has something to do with what contract id you end up with for EA. Mine is the one that came from ...drat, I've forgotten which links I used. I just tried it again, and I get a base rate of $135.98, but also get a discount of 23.80 applied further down.

I'm going to try it with my husband's EA, and see if there is a difference (different contract id).

Weird!!!

My husband's EA (which I think I did from the free Biztravel link that existed a while back), yields no discount at all with his default contract id. Mine does. However, I can't for the life of me now recall from what link I signed up through!! I thought it was the Biztravel one too. Wonder why my default contract id is different??

Mine isn't giving any kind of discount either, although my ressies are for Los Angelos. I got my card through biztravel, too. Nor does my Sam's contract id# give me a discount. My Discover Platinum does but it won't cover SUV's with the secondary insurance so I can't use it. Makes no sence to me!!

I finally figured this out. My default contract ID for EA is one for Capital One cardholders. It automatically applies the 15% discount. Something to remember when I have no other better discount options!!

Sorry if i misled anyone.

Your posts intrigued me so I tested Aug 13-20'01 at MCO, full size at National. I signed up for EC through Disney Club, and have used the DC discount @ MCO and other locations. The default number that appears in the contract ID box w/EC, EA is 5000125. That is NOT the DC contract #, nor does it produce any sort of a discount. Various contract codes (without any coupon codes) produced the following results:
Default contract #. Base Price $135.98, no discounts shown
Emerald Club contract#(from boards). Base Price. $135.98 no discounts shown
AAA contract #. Base Price$135.98. no discounts shown
Disney Club contract #. Base Price $135.98 with a discount of $27.20 shown :)

Further testing, same info and dates that I show above,. I tried DH's card. He signed up through biztravel. The default contract # that comes up with his rate quote is different, it starts with 56----. However, the result is the same. Base price $135.98, no discounts shown.
Capitol One and Discover Card discounts are different than the contract ID's most of us are using. At least I know now, which contract ID's are best, sticking with DC discount:)

Hehe, I get hooked on trying all this stuff too. Still sticking with DC deal, it always comes out best so far!!:D

Hi guys, how did u get those low base quotes, i booked a full size from national's for 8 days, the base quote is 165.63. this is the same quote i have been seeing there, can anyone tell me how do u get the 135 quotes. after i put the DC contract# s, i got the rate is 157.88.
please help me out, and with a BIG THANKS!!!!

And i called National to sign up for the EA. and it will take me weeks to get the membership,
somehow they don't have the online registration now. the question is , will i get a better rate
when i get the EA #? with the DC code ?

Unless the rate changed overnight, it appears that Emerald Club membership does provide a built in discount which affects base rate. Checking the national website, same parameters as above, No Emerald Club Log in, No contract #, base rate quote price is $168.98. Membership apparently does have its rewards.:)

pbhunt, can u tell me where did u get the AAA contract #? i am a AAA member too. does AAA have better rate than DC?

We're not supposed to post codes on the boards, but I guess if a code doesn't provide a discount, It shouldn't really matter? An awful lot of people belong to 3A. The AAA contract # is 6100253. It doesn't seem to change the base price. Disney Club provides the best National Discounts.:)

But remember, pbhunt, that if you did this last test on full-size, the base rate will definitely go up. When you book under EC, full-size and mid-size are the same price. Without EC, the rate on full-size is higher.

When you are going also plays into what people are getting with their discounts etc... I'm going in Nov. and my base rate is $146. If I keep the EC contract number in, it does give a small discount.

Still the DC contract # discount seems to be the best with my $20 coupon from Mileage Plus. The DC coupon can't match that so far.

beattyfamily;

Just what is Mileage Plus? I keep looking for a coupon that gives a better discount than the DC coupon, but have so far been unsuccessful. (Am I trying to nickle and dime this to death, or what??) ;)

You're right lady400, for an intermediate car, no EC log in, No contract #, the base price is................$135.98! The dates you are going will certainlyhave an impact on your rental rate. This was simply a test to determine which contract#'s actually provided some sort of a discount:)

The Mileage Plus coupons are from United's frequent flyer program. 2 coupons for National came in our recent statements. A 1freeday coupon and the other for $20 off a 5-day (or longer) rental. :)
