I want to start trying to sell on E-bay. I have a personal paypal account that I have used to buy things with. Can I use that account or do you have to have a premium account?? Any help woul be appreciated.

TIA

I sell from time to time on e-bay - I just have your standard paypal account set up and it has worked just fine.

I just started selling myself. I set up a premium account to accept credit cards, but you don't have to. Paypal takes a little chunk (fee) if you do that.

I've sold 5 things so far, and so far it's been painless. I've made some Disney cash! It's been a lot easier than I thought it would be. It's pretty well automated, everything is set up for you.

So, if I just use the regular account that I have, can I take credit card payments or not?? I tried to find it on paypal's website but I couldn't. So. I need all the help that I can get.

This is from PayPal's Help section:
Do I need a merchant account to accept credit card or debit card payments online?
No. By signing up for a PayPal Premier or Business account, you can begin to credit card or debit card payments in minutes. With PayPal, you don't need to go through a lengthy process to apply for a merchant account or pay set-up fees. Your business can accept all major credit cards or debit cards and electronic checks. Plus, you'll enjoy our comprehensive suite of selling tools.
If you have a Personal Account (which is what I assume you mean by "regular account"), you cannot accept credit acrd payments.

Here is the update on Paypal which started July 14th.
Use of PayPal on eBay

Notice Date: July 14, 2005
Effective Date: August 19, 2005
Beginning August 19, 2005, if you sell on eBay and offer PayPal, your PayPal account must accept all forms of payment including payments made via credit card, regardless of whether you display the PayPal logo with credit card icons. You must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account if you receive a credit card payment. You may not communicate to eBay buyers (e.g. via your eBay item description) that you only accept, or will not accept, specific forms of PayPal payment.

Hmmm. I've had sellers tell me that they will not accept cc's through Paypal.

I sell a few things from time to time on eBay and I have a personal account, they have not yet asked me to upgrade. My selling maybe insignificant to Paypal.

That used to be allowed. As DMRick posted, it changed in August 2005. Not all sellers are aware of the change, and some are ignoring it until they have no other choice.

It's actually not very difficult to sell on ebay. The Turbolister tool is pretty easy to use. If you need something simpler There are usually 3rd party applications that aid in your posting the auction to ebay.

Oh no, I just started selling again on Ebay and I have listed that I can't take paypal unless it is existing funds.

I have bids on items now, so I don't think I can change it - but what can I do going forward? Is is expensive to be able to take credit cards? and how do you do it? :confused3

It is so much more convenient that way - oh well, I guess it will be back to snail mail for me if it is too much.

If someone reports you, they will end your auction, send you a warning, and if you continue, suspend you for 30 days. If you have no bids, you can fix your description and take that out.

Yes, it is costly to accept credit cards..but it's the price of doing business. I'm sure the grocery store and Walmarts wish it was free to them as well :) I never understood why it was free in the first place. :confused3

I charge .50 over my shipping costs which pays for some of the PP fees of smaller items.
