You do realize your checking account number is printed on every check you write, don't you? It's not exactly secure.aubriee said:Sorry, but no way is anyone getting my checking account number! If I have to stop bidding on e-bay, so be it! Oh well, it was fun, but I can find most of the same stuff in department stores.
Does this verification apply to auctions where the seller will take a money order, cashier's check, or personal check? I've just always used my credit card for PayPal because it was so easy. There is no way I'm giving them my checking account number just to get verified!
The more important thing is that you're giving them permission to access your checking account. Say, for example, you lose a dispute with a buyer, and they decide to give you a refund... Paypal can withdraw the funds from your account without your approval. That's why I opened a second (free, of course) checking account strictly for Paypal use. I don't keep a large sum in there, and they have no access to my household checking account.Anyway, this only applies to Paypal purchases. If your seller will take other methods of payment (money order, etc.), you can ignore Paypal altogether.
