Why would a seller make their feedback private???

I'm still waiting for an item I purchased from this seller. Their feedback has gone to private in the last 2 weeks.

I've only heard from them when I requested contact info from e-bay and again when I made a complaint with paypal.

Supposedly the seller is in the hospital, her daughter e-mailed me to say that the item was shipped according to her mothers records. The daughter offered to send me another of what I bought. I said FINE just tell me when you ship it.

NO ONE ANSWERS! I just keep asking, WHEN WAS IT SHIPPED???? They never answer that question. I paid for insurance! AUGH!

I've noticed that the negative feedback is up to 3 in the past 7 days. I guess I'm not the only one complaining.

I'm just so frustrated and out $50 for a Disney cross stitch kit!

UGH!!!!!!!!

I've complained to PayPal...is there anyone I can complain to at E-bay?

Scroll down a little, under the middle column where it says Buying and Selling, keep going till you see Fraud Protection. Click on that link and the instructions on what to do with eBay will pop up in another window.

Something similar happened to me once. The guy never answered his emails, he had good ratings when I purchased the item and then boom his feedbacks were negative, negative, negative. I kept sending him emails asking him if he was as dishonest as people were saying and he finally shipped my item and then had the nerve to leave me my one and only neutral feedback.

Hang in there, maybe the mother is really sick and maybe the family is at the hospital a lot and not getting to email. I hope it all works out for you.

This is just my own personal opinion....but....try to put yourself in the other person's shoes. If the woman is in the hospital maybe it's very, very serious. Maybe her daughter has been trying to keep up with her mother's E-bay dealings but maybe she is spending every day, all day, at her mother's bedside and just doesn't have TIME to deal with it all. Or maybe her mother died and she's now dealing with funeral preparations. There could be any number of reasons why she hasn't answered your e-mails. Things happen. That is one reason I never spend more than $20 on any E-bay item I choose to bid on. Thankfully I've never had any problems receiving the items, but if I did then I wouldn't be out that much money.

I'm sorry, DW has been told that so and so was in the hospital, so and so was in a car accident, so and so had this happen to them in dealing with EBAY so often it's becoming like a joke to us. I agree, 90% of them COULD be telling the truth - it's just weird hat all of a sudden negatives start appearing and there's a believable excuse. It's hard to actually believe it when you hear it all the time.

My wife actually won an auction and paid within hours of the auction closing via paypal. It took us 3 months and getting safe harbor involved in order to get our items. She kept insisting that things were shipped but no receipts were ever provided and left nasty nasty feedback (which was removed by safeharbor).

Good luck with getting your stuff!

jfulcer-I hate to admit I'm so cynical but you said exactly what I've been thinking, it could be just an excuse.

I'm trying to believe the best in people. The person's info said they lived in Celebration and it is a Disney item and the sellers name is Disney related. I'll keep hoping for the best.

What is Safe Harbor???

I had trouble, too, with a deadbeat. They finally came through after our fraud charges geot her in trouble with law enforcement.

I also heard stories about illnesses, snow storms, etc.....

All too common on Ebay, IMHO.

Yeah Pembo when you keep hearing one reason after another it tends to jade your thinking. I like to look for the best in people but have learned on EBAY, you can expect the worst on occasion.

Safe Harbor is Ebay's dispute resolution service. For $20, they will try to mediate the problems you are having. It sucks for us cause the value of the item was only like $40, but it came down to principal. DW got her item, but it cost her the extra $20. Oh well.

Their feedback went private and their negatives increased at the same time? Something's not right with that picture. Definitely contact eBay's Safe Harbor and see what can be done.

One thing to remember is that you can respond to feedback, so if someone leaves you a negative or neutral you have a chance to briefly state your case or explain that the matter was resolved.
