Hi. I'm new to ebay and looked on their site and I cannot find AT ALL
anything that tells me about "Second Chance Offers" and what the heck it means???? :confused3

I've sold, and shipped, 12 items that say are eligible for "Second Chance Offers" but I don't know what that means, especially since the items are sold :surfweb:

I started on ebay the beginning of the month and I've made $499 in 2 weeks. I have a full time job and I must say, I've had to do my ebaying from work since, for me, that's a lot of movement in 2 weeks, especially for a newbie. Getting VERY close to the $524 I need to purchase my 10 day park hopper non expiring ticket from UT. A few years ago I had a garage sale and redid my home so sold old furniture on craigslist, other items at garage sale and made enough for 4 10 day non expiring hoppers WITH plusses. This time, we still have plusses, and were given more last time we went to TL, since they told us our tickets needed to be upgraded ??? so we have enough on there for us. I wish I could sell another $500 but I think I got rid of a lot of stuff I had laying around.

I do have LOTS of designer clothes from my 17-dd that I was saving for a garage sale. If I sell in "lots" do you think this may move. She's a size 3-5. Thanks so much!

Thank you VERY VERY much for helping me!

A second chance offer is available to you to offer generally when a winning bid falls through -- the buyer contacts you and decides not to buy, etc., and then you can offer the item to the next highest bidder. Of course, you can't do that once you've received payment and shipped the item. Are you marking it shipped in "my ebay"? I'd just ignore it, frankly. That's what I usually do.

Sorry, can't help you with the clothes. But it sounds like you're doing great! Keep it up, and you'll have your tickets in no time!

I sell on ebay all the time.. and it really depends on the items. I recently sold a bunch of my older daughters clothes and the lot i sold went for over 200 dollars and they were not really fancy items. Guess it just depends on the items and the buyers.

Ebay is how my family and i save up for our Disney trips. Currently I am selling so we have lots of spending money while we are there.

A Second Chance Offer can also be utilized if you have more than one of the same item to sell. The one you placed up on auction goes to the winning bidder. Any other item(s) may be offered to the next highest, losing bidder(s) for the max bid they were offering.
[For example, I was a consultant for a direct-sales company. When I no longer wanted to have my own business, I had a lot of "inventory" to get rid of, some of which happened to be identical items. I put a few things up on ebay, and was surprised that one of my items sold for three times what I was expecting to get for it. Since I had two more exactly like it, I offered them to the two runners-up. One person had gotten outbid by one penny, and she gladly accepted my second-chance offer.]

Thank you. What do you mean when a winning bid falls through? I've had my first experience today where I had to open a case after I asked the buyer if he was ready to pay so I could ship. He told me he got an e-mail from ebay saying he wasn't the highest bidder. Being new, I called ebay and they told me he was lying and didn't want to pay. I guess I could have offered the DVD to the next highest bidder to save me some trouble but I didn't know about that option. Also, the DVD went for MUCH higher than I would ever pay for a used item and was surprised it went as high as it did so I would like to see if I get paid or not. Thanks.

Thank you. Can I ask you a question (oops, I guess I already did LOL).
Do you iron all your clothes before you take a picture? For your lot that sold for $200, approximately how many pieces were in it? Is it too late for winter? Should I concentrate on spring/summer? THANK YOU! I have tons of clothes that are in excellent condition and were expensive when my dd purchased them.

Thank you for explaining this to me. I guess I could have offered the DVD to the next highest bidder that I haven't gotten paid for yet but I opened up a claim today since he bid high for the DVD. Once a claim is made, can I still offer the DVD to the next highest bidder? I may try to do that and see what happens before the claim gets settled, not sure. I'll wait to hear what you say. Thank you!

I just tried the 2nd chance offer and sent to the next highest bidder since the price was good so I'll have to see what happens.
THANK YOU ALL very much for explaining this to me.
I greatly appreciate it.
Perhaps I'll work on clothes this weekend.

Yes, it gets overwhelming and is a learning tool. I also do it when cleaning out closests. My DH worked for Disney for a very long time and my closests are busting out with stuff he bought from his store. Searching for information is tough and the answers never easy to find. But just wanted to mention if you saw the NEW rules starting in April. We now have to pay a percentage fee on the shipping fee!! not just what your item sells for, but the total with shipping, which is wrong on every level. While they say we (the sellers) should offer a discount, little people like myself only charge the actual shipping to keep it fair, so we are suppose to charge a handling fee to cover the unfair price of the shipping fee. This is only going to make it harder to sell and I have decided I can no longer afford to pay a fee on international shipping fee. Good luck and watch those announcements. BTW-- I've tried second chance a few times, but the person never seems to be interested.

BUT we get 50 items a month with no listing fees. I'm glad they did this..all these people who really hit it to others with high shipping to get around the fees drove me nuts. Yes, now I get stuck paying fes on shipping also, but OK..I can see why they had to do it. That will suck when I have a heavy item (I always charge actual shipping price and sometimes mess up and don't charge enough) but Paypal has always taken fees on the entire amount so I guess we'll get used to this also.

The non expiring Magic Your Way tickets with some leftover water park fun do not need any special treatment. Also, MYW tickets used more than 13 days ago may no longer be upgraded.

I do charge something for a "handling charge". My shipping and handling cannot be considered padding or extra profit because I allow in-person pickups with no shipping/handling.

Sorry, I do not understand what you are trying to tell me.

I purchased a few years ago 10 day non-expiring hopper passes with plusses. When we left TL I went to Guest Services and asked how many plusses left (I purchased when PI was still open). She said my ticket needed to be upgraded and it gave us 1-2 more plusses, don't remember, I was just happy I got more.

Now, I am saving for 4 new 10-day non expiring hopper passes without plusses since I still have about 4-5 on my old tickets and don't go to the WPs every trip.

I purchase from UT since I have the MS link and the discount.

Not sure what you were referring to about 13 days and such but I do appreciate any advice and help. Thanks!

I guess we are a minority that we don't charge anything but the actual shipping. It does seem so unfair that we have to pay them a fee on something that's not a profit to us. I also saw some sales with very high shipping fees and figured that folks were doing it to get around the value fees. Unfortunately I probably won't ship overseas anymore. Yes, paypal too. Funny, I do the same thing sometimes and get stuck using my small profit to pay the extra shipping fees when I calculate wrong. I try to combine my shipping fees for multiple winners, so in some cases we may now be paying a fee for shipping fees that are going to be removed.....crazy. So now we pay more, the customer pays more and the only winner here are the ones who own the site. :confused3 Guess we'll have to add a handling fee now.

I did iron all the clothes or atleast the ones that really needed it. The lot that sold for that much had 15 items in it.

I have sold winter clothing in the middle of summer had had good luck, sold a lot of little girls summer clothing last winter(December i think) and it sold for almost 100 dollars. I guess it depends on the buyer. And since you reach out to people all over I guess it also depends on their weather. Like the lot I sold of little girls clothes just because it was -13 where I live doesn't mean the weather there was.

I've had good luck at selling used childrens clothing on ebay. Not as much luck at selling adult clothing. Im always listing some of my kids clothes.

I just hit the 500 dollar mark in sales for this year and that was with taking all of January off. Thats our Disney spending money, but I will continue to sell because my hubby and I decided we are going to start on saving to pay for our Alaska cruise in 2013. I have auctions that will close today and if all goes well I will make 200 off those sales.

I have found that the older MYW tickets (from earlier MYW years) with the WPF&M option which did not have the number of Fun visits equal to the number of days on the ticket, if reissued (such as for being demagnetized) will automatically upgrade to the number of days currently being issued.

So if you had a ten day NE which only had six fun visits on it and it is reissued the number of fun visits allowed will automatically jump up to ten.

Interesting thing is I have never seen anything about this in any ticketing documentation, but it does happen every time.

I used to be suspect when I was contacted (as a buyer) for a 2nd chance offer. I used to think that maybe the seller had a friend drive up the bidding, and the friend "accidentally" won. So I would rather wait for the item to be re-listed, and get it for less. As a seller, I did offer it a few times, when I had sales fall thru, and rarely was I taken up on it.

Yes, I believe this is what happened to us. We got extra Plusses even though we didn't spend any extra money. WINNER :lmao:
When I asked how many plusses we had left, after using one for the first time (I didn't remember how many plusses came with the ticket), I was told our ticket needed to be upgraded and I took it as pixie dust that we got extra without purchasing. Thanks so much for the information!

I am going to wait and see what happens with the resolution center/claim center whatever you call it and if/when that falls through, I'll just relist.
Thanks.

Once you learn the rules of international shipping, it's just as easy to ship overseas as it is to ship within the US. It's also good to learn the rules for each shipping option, and if your item qualifies for it. A good scale makes printing the labels at home so much easier. As well, Ebay now allows first class international to printed from home. The only downside to it, you can't register the item for tracking/insurance (for that you have to go to the post office). Although you can ship priority international for tracking purpose which qualifies for Ebay.
If you have large, oversized items, USPS website will also give you an estimated shipping cost. Like recently we shipped a box to Russia, it couldn't go over 18x18x12, so I had to cut the box down and organize it properly to make sure it all fit within the right size. He spent more on shipping than the actual item.
It's also amazing the amount of money people will spend from overseas. There's a guy that collects really really old sealed PC games (like 70's-80's on 5" floppies). He pays hundreds for these, and it still costs another $30-$50 for shipping.

If you do wind up with a non payer, you can ask them to pay your ebay fees, or you'll file a claim with them. Again with Russia, some guy bidded on a Zojirushi commercial rice cooker. He never contacted prior to bidding for the shipping charges, when an invoice was sent to him with the actual shipping charges he was all mad that it would cost $150 to ship there. He some how thought it was $20, and the item only won for $160. Like we're really gonna take $30 for a $200 item. Needless to say, because the auction ended, there were final value fees of about $15. So he had to pay for it, and neutral feedback was left.

It's always easier to deal with the person directly, if possible, than through Ebay/Paypal. They can take up to 30 days to process a claim, holding that money until an outcome is reached. Some one bought a remote, guess it was the wrong one, claimed it didn't work at all and sent it back without even contacting for resolution. He started a claim through Paypal, and once that happened Paypal would not allow a refund on this end, and tied up the $12 until they processed it. Then he kept sending messages through Ebay stating, "I sent the remote back, give me my money or I'll leave negative feedback". Which is completely against ebay rules. He couldn't understand that because he opened up the claim, he had to wait till they came to a conclusion, and right on time (30 days later), he finally got his money back.

NEW rules starting in April. We now have to pay a percentage fee on the shipping fee!! not just what your item sells for, but the total with shipping, which is wrong on every level. BTW-- I've tried second chance a few times, but the person never seems to be interested.

This is terrible! I sell stuff for my job and also my personal items (sell my stuff to fuel my own ebay problem....:rotfl:

This is going to make it impossible to sell things to even cover the cost of items. The ebay fees and paypal fees are already close to 20%...factor in a charge on the shipping:sad2: there won't be any money to make....stupid greedy ebay...
