Ok - I am not the most computer savvy person. I have been selling on e-bay for a while and I did figure out how to upload my pictures into there, so that's not the problem.

I notice on some listings that (example the TMX Elmo's) that people just take a generic picture and post that . Where do these come from and how to you get them uploaded onto your listing??? (step by step instructions would be good)

Thanks Much.

I'm not sure, but they are probably scanned from catalogs or found on other websites. Be careful, because there are copyrights on other people's photography and you could get a listing pulled. Maybe someone else will know more, that is my best guess.

Most of the "generic" Elmo TMX pictures you see out there come from the Fisher-Price website itself. It isn't exactly legal to use them in your EBAY listings, but nobody is ever going to stop it.

Go to this website
http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=900002&e=storeproduct&pid=35910

right click on a picture you want
choose save image as
save it to your computer

then upoad it into EBAY just as you would a picture of your own.

I always use my own pictures for a few reasons.

a) Buyer knows that I actually have the product on hand...I know in the past that people have been burnt buying items from people who never had the items at all, just downloaded manufacturers pictures and then took a whole lotta money, closed their accts and ran. (hopefully they were later caught, but I am sure people get away with it)

b) There are many manufacturers who actually pay people to watch Ebay for copyright infringement. They notify Ebay, they will pull the auctions without warning, and you do not get your listing fees back when they do that. Vera Bradley is one in particular that I know does this, although I am sure they don't catch every single one of them. (if you hang out on the Ebay message boards for any length of time, you will see posts where people are REALLY mad when Ebay does this, but there really is no recourse)

c) With my own pictures, buyers can see the the actual condition and I am less likely to have people say the item was misrepresented later.

Just my thoughts...

I also use my own pictures but had to post "generics" when my camera died for a few weeks! All you have to do is do a search and you can find them. You do not necessarily have to get it from an official site, sometimes from another website selling it.

Toby's Friend explained exactly how I do it.

Thanks for all the replies. That answers my question. I have always used my own pictures also - but notice that some of the other ones look nicer.

Is it possible that the image was added by the person using the UPC code to create the listing?

I know you can do this with movies and music, but I don't know if it can be done with toys. With movies you just enter the UPC code and there is an option for the site to do the rest, including picture.

I do agree however that you own pictures are the best option. It shows the buyer that you actually have the item and it is in good condition.

Personally, I don't buy listings that just have stock pics (mainly for things such as purses, etc.) You just never know.
