Does anyone have a Dyson vacuum? We have two german shepherds that shed daily and thought Dyson's "The Animal" vacuum would pick up a lot of the dog hair. Starting tomorrow, Target is giving a $100 gift card when you purchase a select Dyson vacuum.

Do you like your Dyson? Does it really pick up the dog hair?

okay..we have Dyson Animal. I vaccum daily. I had just finished vacuuming our bedrrom prior to our purchase of the Dyson. After, I vaccumed the bedroom with the Dyson, the first time, I had to empty the container! It was full of dog hair. IT was almost disgusting to think that that much hair was still on the floor ( yellow lab, actually white).

Best 500.00 I have spent. Still vacuum daily, but only have to change the continer about once a week now!

I was able to get an unbelievable one-day deal on the Dyson Animal about two months ago at Meijer (over $150 off). I'd been hearing wonderful things about it for a long time, and we have two longhair cats and two extremely furry dogs, so I figured it was worth giving it a try.

Words cannot describe how much I LOVE this vacuum. I'd heard people say that they couldn't believe what it picked up from a seemingly clean carpet -- they were NOT kidding. My dh and I were blown away by the dirt in the carpet that wasn't coming up with our Hoover. And the animal hair -- WOW.

The thing that impresses me the most, though, is the fact that I can actually vacuum with it. Previously, my dh or ds had to do all the vacuuming because I'm highly allergic to dust and other vacuums kicked up so much that I'd start wheezing. Even with a fair amount of dirt/dust/hair in the Dyson canister, I NEVER even sneeze. That was one of the biggest selling points of the Dyson, and it's actually true. :teeth:

Is it sick to love a vacuum? I won't even let anyone else touch the thing. It's mine .... ALL MINE!!!! :hyper:

I just got the new Consumer Reports magazine, and they did vacuums. They added a test for pet hair, so you might want to check it out. They do not usually rate Dyson at the very top, either.

The last time I needed a vacuum, I checked with Consumer Reports. They rated the Sears Kenmore one of the best. My last three vacuums were Sears canisters, and I was extremely disappointed. The vacuums did not hold up to average wear and tear (wheels broke off, hose connection broke, etc.) I refuse to buy Sears again.

This time, I thought I'd try Dyson.

HI,
We have gone through Sears Kenmore vacs one about every year..We have a black haired cat...This JUne when our Kenmore was not sucking and DH got sick of replacing the belt that kept buring out he himself went out and bought the DYson..Let me tell you he vac with the old vac one last time and then with the Dyson the whole canister was filled the suction is incredible best vac.. you will ever buy and the cleanest your rugs will ever be....Our cleaning lady is afraid of the dyson since it almost sucks my runners up..that is how powerful it is..............

I have the Dyson Animal, my parents bought one for me and each of my sisters. We all love it. Everytime I talk to my dad I say thanks, its the best, worth every penny. It picks up so much dirt and hair, that I find I don't need to dust as often either. :cool1:

ETA they bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon which saved over $100.00

We also LOVE our Animal Dyson.

You DON'T need the most expensive one, all you are paying for is the attachments. (we have that one and still have not used them all) But if you think you will, then buy it. If not save the $$, it's the same machine. You can always buy the attachments seperatally (Bed Bath & Beyond sell them) Also the 20% coupon doesn't always work, check the fine print, I've seen where it says EXCLUDES Dyson.

Either way ENJOY. My husband does most of the vacuuming now, he loves it so much.

:rotfl:

We purchased a Dyson about 8 months ago. I loved how it cleaned the regular pile carpets in the bedrooms. However, it was terrible on Berber....which is what I have all over the main living level. The suction was so great (which is why you buy it, right?) that it kept pulling up loops in the berber. Plus, it was too bulky to fit under my couch and I found the attachments to be cumbersome and awkward to use. I ended up returning it, because I felt that $500 was too much to spend on a vacuum and only use it in two rooms. If my whole house was regular carpet, I probably would have kept it. I was amazed at how nice those bedroom carpets looked after a Dyson vacuuming!

Two cats manage to shed on every surface. It works well and I can see the color or my rugs now. The true test is my co-worker's husband. He is a vacuuming fiend and calls his "Lady Dy". My friend says that she knows where she stands in the family hierarcy...right after the vacuum and the dog.

We have the yellow Dyson-LOVE it!!! We have a black and white cat and it gets up so much dust and hair every time I vacuum. My DH mentioned the Consumer Reports ratings too and I said I don't care I want to try one-the people on the DIS all love theirs:) We got one and he loved it from the minute we first used it. Target has a pink one now. $40 goes towards breast cancer research.

We bought the standard Dyson (not the Animal model) a couple of months ago, and I really like it. We have two geriatric pets (dog and cat) who shed a LOT, year round, on our wall-to-wall carpet. The Dyson has GREAT suction and really gets up the fur well.

That said, I had a relatively inexpensive vacumm prior to the Dyson--I don't know if the Dyson works better than other $400 vacuums or not.

Besides the great suction, I like the Dyson because it's very easy to push and doesn't feel heavy or bulky at all, unlike many of the vacuums I've tried.

How do the Dysons on stairs? We have stairs and I use the attachments for them. Are the attachments easy to use? I have been wanting to try one for a while. $100.00 gift card is a nice incentitive.

I bought myself a refurbished DC-07(it's turquoise) one from amazon this spring, and I agree that it is great! I previously had an Oreck and it works alot better than that one. I will empty the canaster and then vacuum, and I'm shocked the amount of dirt that it picks up. We normally don't wear shoes in the house, but it is always picking up dirt out of the carpets in addition to the regular messes.
Thumps up from me!

I have the "Animal", and the stair attachment that comes with it works pretty good.....not the greatest, but pretty good

I have read mixed reviews about the dyson. I have had the Animal (purple) model for about a year now.

My experience is.....

So far, I have had no mechanical problems.

It vacuums up an amazing amount of dirt & debris daily (I run a daycare and vacuum daily).

For my indoor-outdoor carpet that is on my 3 season porch, (Sammy mentioned trouble with the Berber carpet) I find using the attachment for vacumming under furinture works excellent on this. Much better than using it as an upright on that grade of carpet.

Also, I have noticed that it does pull up pilings in my carpet. Not really bad, but if I had brand new carpeting this would be super noticeable.

All-in-all,I have been VERY happy with this vacuum.

I bought the animal vac about 6 months and I love it.

We have 2 cats and 3 dogs, so you can just imagine all the hair.

Puts our old Kenmore to shame.

I just wanted to add that IMHO, Consumer Reports isn't all it's cracked up to be. For example, they rate the 2004 Saturn Ion as a terrible car, one you should never buy used because it's totally unreliable, and guess what? Mine has never given me a moment's trouble. :confused3

I guess I tend to rely more on the experiences others have had with a product than a magazine review ... but of course, YMMV.
