I am tempted to buy a Dyson vacuum - has any one else purchased one? Please give me some advice --

1. 2 long-haired dachshunds who shed EVERYWHERE

2. Berber carpeting

3. Stairs

4. Allergy to some molds

I want to buy a yellow model and then purchase the turbo tool ....

Has anyone bought a factory-refurbished vac.

Please help me decide what to do.

I'd be curious on this too...I've been hinting at wanting a dyson for a while.

I'm leaning towards the yellow one too. (The purple one is the "animal" one for $100 more, right?)

I'd also like advice.

WE LOVE OUR DYSON! Well worth the money. Just make sure you get the optional hardwood flor attachment if you have HW floors. The Dyson isn't meant for bare floors ( at least my model isn't ).

We, too, love our Dyson! DD has very thick medium length hair, and we have a Shih Tzu and a rabbit. It is amazing how much stuff our Animal Dyson picks up. I have to clean the brushes out regularly, though.

We got a yellow Dyson vac for our wedding and just love it! We have a lab/shephard mix who sheds like crazy and it just has so much suction we have not problem picking up all of her hair!
We have Pergo floors, carpeting and Berber and it works great on all surfaces. I have never been so impressed with a vacuum!
As for stairs, we just use the hose and leave the base in the foyer. It works quite well. The only thing that is not 100% positive is that it is an upright and I much prefer canisters, but it works so well that it's hardly a complaint! I highly recommend Dyson!

Love mine, only slight "critisism" would be that mine ( a cheap model) the attatchment for doing stairs etc is a little clumsy. Works fine, just a little unwieldy.

Which upright would you guys reccommend? the Animal (purple one) or the "all floors" (yellow) one? Is the Animal worth the extra $100? (i'm not a fan of canister vacs...sorry.)

The dog and I shed like crazy. I have hardwood floors as well (I use my hoover floormate to vaccum them up and I just used a swiffer duster on our wood stairs)

I bought the purple Dyson this past Sunday, it's the Animal. We have a Maltese and Sheltie, and the Sheltie has Mega-Hair so I thought I would splurge! I really like it! It cleaned the stairs much better than our old vac, and I like the way the canister empties. (when I emptied it out the first time, it looked like a little Sheltie popped out! lol!)

I got mine at Linens N Things, it was advertised for $500.00, then they let me use my 20% off coupon, so I ended up paying $400.00. I thought that was a good deal.

Another dyson lover here. I bought it as a supplement to our central vac and now I only use the dyson.

My SIL recently did this too. A really good deal.

I bought the reconditioned on from Amazon a couple of months ago for $259 (there was a $20 coupon) and I LOVE it. We have 2 cats and even though our apartment has brand new carpet you would be amazed by the amount of dirt and fur it picked up. The reconditioned models do not have the 2 year warranty, but I don't think it is going to be an issue.

All the vacs are the same regardless of color, but the attachments are different so you have to decide if those attachments are worth the extra money to you. Also, the 20% coupons at LNT and others exclude Dyson, but as posted, you may be able to get them to take it anyway.

and I came across something in this October's Good Housekeeping magazine. In the Buyer's Guide section page 92 they rated the Hoover Savvy U8145-900 ($279.99) as the best overall. Then there's a box ("Oreck and Dyson vacs: what the ads don't tell you") where they say "Although Dyson's DC07 ($399) had the best pull, it takes more than that to be a great picker-upper. In our tests, it didn't suck up debris nearly as well as our winners." So - it may be really nitpicking and just Good Housekeeping's 2 cents :) , but at over $100 less - I'm thinking about the Hoover. Saw one at my Sam's Club for $259.99.

Good luck with your decision.
