Please help me. The search didn't come up with anything but I know Dyson's have been brought up several times. I went back several pages and still couldn't find anything.

We are looking into buying a Dyson vac because they come highly recommended here and by my DD. After doing a google search for reviews I found tons of unhappy people. Now what? We are looking at the models DC07 and more strongly at the DC17.

Any opinions? Thanks!

I have the Dyson 18 (slim). I love it. I had read where people said they fall apart easily, etc. I have not found that to be the case.

If I am correct the main difference in the 7 and the 17 is how the hose works. In the 7 you have to pull it up and turn the end around. In the 17 it works like mine, you simply pull it straight up and it slips off the holder and you are good to go.

I personally love mine. It has picked up stuff I never knew existed. It is easy to use and handle but it is much heavier than my other vaccumes. It is not self propelled as my last one was but I also don't have puffs of dust coming out of it either. I love the ease of emptying it and the filters are self contained and easy to work with.

Go for it.... If you get a good deal on the 7 maybe consider it but otherwise I think the ease of using the attachments is easier in the 17.

My DH and best friend bought me a Dyson for my birthday in July.
Cost them $500.00.
They were so excited.
Since I am the one who does 99% of the house cleaning I will give you my opinion.
I am NOT that happy with it.
Cons:
1. Very heavy.
2. I find the cleaning wand difficult to use.
3. The cleaning pieces for the wand come off easy and I find a trail of them behind me.:rotfl:
4. Where the cord goes into the machine is awkward and I am always stepping on it.
5. No light in front.
6. When emptying waste sometimes I have to stick fingers up there to get everything out. Ugh!
Pros:
1. Sucks up everything!!
2. Well built.
3. Good warranty.
4. Long power cord.
5. Lots of attachments.
Would I buy one again, no. I don't think its worth $500.00.
But I will use it until it stops working and just deal with the irritations and thank DH and friend for the gift.
:) :)

I love mine and have zero complaints. I find the attachments easy to use, I love the suction power, I love the way the dirt canister empties.

I have the DS07. I would definitely buy it again.

I have a DC14 "Full Kit" from Costco. It works great. Never had an attachment come loose. It has amazing suction. It 's easy to empty even when things are seemingly stuck, the whole clear plastic "bag" comes right off by pushing one button. I would spend the $469 again in a heartbeat. Best vac we've ever had.

we just bought ours, although I think we got the 15? not sure. it was either that or the 17. the difference between it and the 7 was the beater bar or the roller, if you check out dyson's website it will give a rundown of whatever the differences are. I love ours! I bought it using a linens and things 20% off coupon, so a nice deal (got it at bed, bath, and beyond)

I have the DC07, and I'd change for the DC17 in a heartbeat. The hose extension is sooo much better on the new ones compared to the DC07. Otherwise, I adore my Dyson.

The 15 is the one with the great big ball in the back instead of the usual 2 small wheels.

I have the 15, then. and I love it! got it for $399 I think after my 20% off coupon and bought it on tax free weekend here in ma.

Would I buy one again, no. I don't think its worth $500.00.

I agree. I bought a Riccar because the DYSON (DC14 I think) I bought doesn't have a carpet height selector and doesn't agitate the carpet enough to get the deep stuff. I'm always amazed at what the Riccar picks up after I've swept with the DYSON. (Yeah I sweep twice because with two shepherds the DYSON does do a good job on the hair.)

Many other brands now use cyclonic suction for a fraction of the price. :thumbsup2

We have two German Shepherds and the amount of dog hair is incredible. I thought the Dyson would be perfect and purchased one last year. However, I soon found out it is heavy, and the wand is difficult to use. Forget about cleaning small area rugs, like those in the bathroom. The rugs get stuck, the vacuum makes a strange grinding sound, and you have to shut it off to clear the beater bar. On the plus side, it has great suction power.

Had I known then what I know now, I would have purchased something else.

Does anyone have the Canister type and not the Upright one?

We are interested in the canister type and are looking for feedback.

I have the Dyson DC07 and I LOVE IT! It is not heavy at all and I like the way the attachments are stored on the machine.

AND LOVE IT! I wanted a Dyson but just didn't want to pay the price so I actually bought another brand that was still a $300 vacuum. I used that other vacuum for 2 months and hated it. It wouldn't even pick up a string on the carpet! So, I took it back to Best Buy and told them I hated it and would they please return it and I'd buy a Dyson. Well they did! I absolutely LOVE the Dyson. It has the most suction of any vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. It is heavier but I will never own another kind of vacuum again. I've had it for 2 years now and it still runs great!

I am so amazed of how many Dyson models are out there. How can you tell the difference between each model?

Thanks for all the responses. I think we are going out this weekend and shop around.

when I was looking I checked out dyson.com. it really helped me compare models. you can click on the ones you are interested in and do a compare list

eta, they don't list my non-animal ball dc 15 anymore, wonder if they phased it out? I just bought it a couple of months ago. weird.

one thing I really like is the motorized brush bar. that was something the 07 didn't have. I wasn't sure it mattered, but boy do I like it.

Well, we went shopping at Sears (having a sale) and the salesman lined up 07, 14, 15, 17 and went over each feature starting with the 07. He was so informative. We went home with the 17. I know we should have waited for a Bed, Bath and Beyond coupon but this kid was so informative and took so much time with us that we wanted him to get the commission.
