Is that possible? My dh turns #s around all the time - he doesn't seem to have anything else he does it to - he says its just #s. The otherday he deposited some checks in out account - got all right but 1 & he put it in as like $117 when it should have been $177.... it happens all the time - though just not usually in an important thing like banking.

And 2 seconds after he paid for something he can't tell you how much he paid for it - almost literally - I can stand @ the end of the line & he can get the receipt & walk over to me & I can ask what it cost & he won't know. Sometimes he'll have an idea ($20 something) but he can't tell you it was $23.82 or anything like that....even if he wrote a check he won't know.

Any ideas?:confused3

I do the same exact thing with numbers. Just did it a few hours ago at the bank depositing a check actually. Can't tell ya why, but I do it constantly. Drives me nuts!

I don't know for sure about it being with numbers. I have trouble with left and right. I'm not stupid, but I get my left and right mixed up all the time. It is something that I really have to concentrate and think about. I also have trouble visualizing something in my mind dealing with left and right.

I have to really stop and think. I'm like a little kid, and I'll have to stick out my right hand and say to myself, "I write with my right." It is totally weird and embarrassing.

One day at work, one of the doctors (a pediatrician) heard me talking to myself trying to distinguish left from right, and she told me that I have a form of dyslexia. :confused3

I do this too & invert #.

As an accounting person I call it transposed numbers and in my experience it is not something someone even knows they are doing until later.

I had a shop manager that transposed numbers on a regular basis, drove me nuts but she couldn't help it and was totally unaware she did it. I just double checked her figures.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the problem. I hate it because people think I'm stupid, and really I'm not. I worked with a guy who was a real jerk, and one day he called me stupid because of it. :sad1: Very embarrassing.

I do it occasionally, also - mostly when I am feeling rushed or stressed.

When I'm sitting home balancing my checkbook or going over numbers, I'm fine.

But when I am at work and it's hectic, I'll sometimes say, "That last one was $19.81," when the number was actually $91.81. But I ALWAYS correct myself immediately, before anyone notices or has time to say anything.

My math teacher in 7th grade thought I might be dyslexic because when we would all go up to the board during algebra, I would mix up my numbers as she called them off. I was nervous, because I was never good at algebra, and desperately wanted to be done before I was the last one up there.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of dyslexia. Is that a word?

I do that with numbers all the time and I also have trouble with my right and left. I do the same things, have to think "I am write handed and I right with this hand so this is my right". I also put my left hand out and make an L with it to distinguish my left!

When I worked I had to repeat a lot of numbers to people and it would take me a decent amount of time to do it. Also when people called and gave me their claims number I often had to have them repeat it and write it down before I could put it in the system to pull up the claim. It was a pain in the butt!!

And there was a Very Special episode of Degrassi about it once. Because every episode of Degrassi is Very Special :)

Yes I remember, Liberty had it and everyone thought she was messing around with the teacher, but he was just helping her. LOL I  Degrassi

I figured out that I have dyscalculia when Liberty found out that she had dyscalculia. Sad, but true.

Not all episodes of Degrassi are *Very Special*... just most of them. I love it anyway. :D

:rotfl: Is that like "Tonight, on a very special Blossom"?

I had first heard about this when i read the book "The Myth of You and Me"

One of the main characters has this.

My math teacher friend says it happens more than you would think. She sees it in one or two kids a year.

Thanks for the info - but is there anything that can be done to help him out? It explains why (maybe) he doesn't want to handle in of the bill paying...and I just thought he was being a lazy man that didn't care :rolleyes1 of course that's still probably some of it!

I have it, and minor dyslexia, and I have to hold out my hands and make an L to tell right from left. In marching band I wrote "left" and "right" on my shoes.

I actually don't switch numbers around very much, but I can't say larger numbers at all. Like, I see 2200 and say "22-thousand" and then my DH gives me a weird look. :headache: I do pay all the bills and double and triple check my math.

I do it with numbers all the time but not with reading. I saw a jacket one time and thought it said $155 and freaked out when it was $551. I have to triple check when I add things.

No, the ones that are full of Craig/Ashley angst aren't "Very Special" at all. They're mostly just tiresome.

Ok, I'll stop hijacking the thread now.
